My husband and I did a 5 day hiking trip with Beyond the Glass. The excursion was well-coordinated, the selected lodging was great, background/historical information was insightful, and we felt like we got a "behind the scenes" look of South-Central and South-Western Ireland.

The hikes are for those of above-average fitness levels. (I swim, run, bike, and lift weights regularly and was challenged at times). Hiking times ranged from 3 1/2 to 6 1/2 hours long (I skipped the 6 1/2 hour hike up and down Ireland's highest peak as I needed a rest day after the first two hikes). Some days it rained/misted the whole time and some hikes include rock scrambling up/down steep descents. That said, I would recommend this trip to those who love a physical challenge.

What I liked most about the trip was the variety of scenery and experiences. James, our guide, really wanted us to experience the outdoors of Ireland from different vantage points.

The tour was well-crafted to provide: challenging but satisfying hikes each day through beautiful mountain and coastal countryside; relaxing travels in a comfortable tourbus with interesting (and often amusing) Irish folklore and good music; and very nice accommodations - which included delicious breakfasts - located in charming towns. Our guide James was just excellent - welcoming, friendly, informative, knowledgeable and fun. It was simply a wonderful experience, and I would definitely recommend Beyond The Glass,

The best way to see and experience Ireland’s iconic south west. Expertly planned to adapt to ever changing weather and group ability the hikes each day always felt fresh and maximized exploring new areas. Did not expect such high end accommodations and dining for a hiking based tour. Would highly recommend and hope to use this same tour service in the future.
