    Educational Stop
This is a well done tour. One can follow along using the program to read about what is displayed at the 23 exhibits (so there is no need to pay extra for the audio option). It was a strenuous walk up to the jail from city center for us old folks. We learned a lot and enjoyed walking the jail and its grounds. There are a few “games” designed to keep the youngest visitors engaged. Allow an hour at least.

A worthwhile visit. Welcoming staff. Informative audio guide.
A 15 minute walk from the centre of Cork. But be aware that signs to the Gaol or moved to point in the wrong direction. I walked way out of my way because I followed a sign that was pointing away from the goal! Thank goodness for a local who redirected me. It is a pity that when I mentioned this at the ticket desk I was told "It happens often, nothing we can do." I too work in a museum and felt the reply should have been "Very sorry, it happens often. I shall get onto the council immediately and ask for the sign to be correctly positioned." Other than that, I though the two ladies greeting visitors on entering the gaol were welcoming, helpful and very enthusiastic. The goal interesting. The audio trail informative. As it was pouring with rain I didn't look round the grounds outside of the gaol. Well worth a visit.

A great tourist spot in Cork
Worth the uphill walk up to this. Spent a while wandering round and reading about what had happened here. The statues were a little creepy but really added to the experience walking around

    Shaun was an incredible guide
My girlfriend booked a guided tour of the Gaol on my birthday trip to Cork, because I have a great interest in Irish 19th Century crime and punishment. Our tour guide Shaun (Sean/Shawn, apologies) was just brilliant. He kept us informed and interested throughout. It differs from Gaols I’ve seen elsewhere, with fascinating stories of a variety of inmates and staff. While it is obviously very difficult to understand what it would have been like as an inmate, Shaun’s tour took us close. I wholeheartedly recommend the guided tour of the Gaol.

    Excellent
Excellent. This ranks with Crumlin Road in Belfast and Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin as a historical prison representation. The stories in the cells illuminate the imposing building and the ability to wander in the surrounding grounds provides an additional impression. The self-guided audio tour which I took finishes in the mock-up court room where, after the visuals commenting on the prison's history have completed, two wonderful songs play, which alone make this place an essential visit. Immense and powerful both lyrically and physically. Well worth a visit.

    The jewel in Cork's crown
I don't know why but I expected a lot less of an experience when we started the tour. What an amazing a day we had! The staff were unbelievably friendly, the gaol itself was incredibly evocative thanks to the personable stories and the historical restoration. It is close to the city centre and easy to find. Definitely a jewel in Cork's crown. Highly recommended.

    Must Go!
This was such a fun and interesting place to visit. So much history packed into this building. It reminded me of the Alcatraz tour in San Francisco. I will say that I was a bit disappointed in the halloween decorations that they had out up. There was a scavenger hunt they were doing for the kids which was awesome, however the skeletons and ghosts kind of messed up the aesthetic of my photos.

Long trek to get there, interesting short visit, creepy wax figures.
It was raining persistently when we decided to trek up to Cork City Gaol. We found that it is a decent walk from the city centre. By the time we got there, we were cold and wet. There is a fair amount to see, its generally explained well and interesting. They use wax figures in the cells as example prisoners to explain how imprisonment impacted a cross-section of people. I would not say it was a trip highlight, but we learned something from this visit. They do serve some refreshments, and the hot drink was appreciated.

    Interesting and entertaining
Really interesting. Good price. I recommend getting the audio tour if going solo, gave a lot of information, it was quite entertaining. Staff were friendly and helpful. - it is an old gaol building so can be cold during winter. - Steep-ish walk to the gaol, so recommend a taxi for anyone with breathing issues after exertion.

    Wedding and Tour!
We were lucky enough to have our wedding ceremony at the cork city gaol, yes it may seem like an odd venue but it is an option on their site and turned out to be the best choice! I worked with Sarah via email to plan our day and she went above and beyond to make our day perfect! We had the entire west wings to ourselves for 2 hours and they set up everything for us. Secondly we had a group of 18 coming with us from the USA for our wedding, Sarah set us up with a guided tour the day before our wedding. The history of the Gaol was so interesting and the guided tour allowed us to ask all the questions, the adults and kids really enjoyed it! I would highly recommend visiting the Gaol!

We visited the former prison and went on a guided tour (€8 per person) that lasted 45 minutes. The tour was highly informative and was told through the lives of the prisoners that were held at the prison. The building has a small gift shop, audiovisual presentation, supplemental informational panels on walls and some interactive games. Highly recommend!

Cork city Gaol is a good place to spend an hour. It has a lot of history and the dolls were cool. I enjoyed that the staff lets you fully explore the place on your own without interruptIng and ruining experience. The only part that I disliked was that they put some lame polls in middle of cells to prevent you from taking good pictures and getting close to manekens. That also ruins the immersion since it wasn't there in real life scenario in Gaol.

Old prison which is nice to visit, well preserved and very nicely decorated with the cells still present. With an audio guide to follow at your own pace with a story illustrated with lifelike puppets for each cell, very nicely done. This is at the top of the city so best to get there via the hop on hop off.

This was worth the visit. The cells, along with the leaflet, told stories of typical inmates really well. The buildings were atmospheric and created a sense of how the building had been used. All the information you need is in the leaflet that comes with admission, so probably not worth paying extra for the audio guide.

A trip I’ve wanted to take for many years & it was worth it. A fascinating place steeped in history. The exhibits throughout are great & touch on many periods of history. I recommend the audio guide which you can start & stop as you go. The visit will take about 2hrs & is suitable for kids.

We were a family of 4, two teenagers. Admission price was extremely reasonable at €30 for family ticket. We didn’t opt for the audio tour. There is lots to see so we took our time and followed our guide map which had the attractions numbered and a brief description and history of what you were looking at. You could go into a lot of the cells and get the history and reason why the prisoners were in there. It’s a big site so it takes about 2 hours to take it all in. There is a small gift shop on the way out and you can buy tea/coffee and some small cakes or chocolate bars and then sit outside. In the whole it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend it.

The Gaol is an amazing attraction! An old prison turned museum, it has been preserved well over the last two centuries and has a lot of content to see and hear. It's very interactive too, as it has games all over and a set of friendly and helpful staff that really help make the experience a lot more pleasant. This place works well for coming in alone or with friends and family. There's a quaint gift shop too with a lot of good stuff in there, I personally chose to go with the local chocolates and wall hangings.

We visited the Gaol and really enjoyed the experience. It is very well done with wax works depicting the characters and the information leaflet is very good. Definitely worth a visit while in Cork ( not far from the city Centre )

We were stuck for something to do in Cork City on a rainy day and decided to go here. Would thoroughly recommend it, fun, educational and for the older kids there's a bit for them too. They've stocks you can get into and the mannequins add a nice touch. If you're a history buff you'll be in your element but if you just want a way to keep the family entertained it's great too. Good value for money as well. We didn't have to pre-book or anything.

This is another must-see place in Cork and well worth the visit. It is on the edge of town but not too far to walk. We approached it from the opposite bank of the River Lee and found the best place to cross to access the prison was the “Shaky” bridge, which is an attraction in itself!

The tour is really good with the guide which you get with your entrance ticket ensuring that you see all the places of interest. You progress through the prison from the ground to the first floor and then up to the area which was used in the final stages of the building as Cork’s radio broadcasting station until the building closed until its renovation into what you see today. Their is a small gift shop and then the chance to explore the inner courtyard and grounds with the Former exercise yard, infirmary, debtors prison and other wings of the gaol.

Well worth the visit!
