    Afternoon in the sun!
Fantastic walking tour on both sides of the peace wall, hearing the history from people who lived it from both sides of the conflict.

You do get both sides views
It gave a true insight into why there will never be a solution to the troubles, both guides impassioned by their causes and immovable

    Difficult but Rewarding Experience
We landed in Belfast from London in the morning and took this tour that afternoon. It was an eye opener that set the stage for a fabulous first visit to Ireland. The tour was led first by a Catholic, republican and nationalist, on one side of the Peace Wall and then a Protestant, loyalist and unionist, on the other side. Both were ardent supporters of their causes and presented personal portrayals of 'the troubles' that were at times painful and disturbing to hear. I came away with more questions than answers, which is not surprising when receiving such strident and polarizing views. This is not an easy tour and you will have to spend time talking and researching and debating to get closer to the truth. But in the end, it will enrich your visit and deepen your connection with the Irish, who despite the brutal subjugation and exploitation at the hands of the British, are the friendliest and most open people in the world.

Slightly lopsided but interesting tour - Paul is lovely!
I think this tour is interesting and definitely worth doing. For me, the first half was far more engaging as Paul, the Republican guide, is a particularly thoughtful, complex and interesting person and was very open to answering questions about his life (the good and the bad). Paul gets 5 stars for sure! A very self-reflective, kind and funny person. I hope all his dreams for a peaceful future for the young people pan out! I found the second half a bit of a struggle to get through as it was very repetitive, angry and far more polemic than personal history. As in 100% polemic, zero personal history. I was expecting to hear conflicting stories but the second half was veering beyond personal opinion towards completely alternative facts in relation to statistics, political history and the like. I understand that there is a lot of trauma involved in these histories and am sympathetic, but having distorted historical "facts" yelled at you for 1.5 hours is a slog. However, worth it for Paul, the fascinating murals and memorials, and a snapshot of contemporary views.

    A wonderful walking tour
I’ve participated in this walking tour three different times, so it’s obviously not bad. But I do have a few critiques. I’ll start by saying that I absolutely recommend the tour. I feel like it’s slightly overpriced, but that’s my opinion. I felt like some of the commentary from one of the guides was a bit too theatrical and over the top. On my most recent tour, the republican guide completely skipped over talking about Bombay Street or even stopping by the memorial garden. I only noticed this because I’ve done the tour multiple times, but I felt like this was a real disservice to those who will only ever get to do the tour once. Overall, I absolutely recommend the tour. But I would kindly ask the guides to not take their paying customers for granted. Be honest with people about the current state of things in the north of Ireland. Remember that even though you walk down the Falls Road or the Shankill Road all the time, that might someone else’s only opportunity to ever do so.

This experience is very interesting and thought-provoking. The accents of the guide can be a bit hard to understand, but they do a terrific job!

    Highly informative tour !
Very enlightening to hear what happened from both perspectives. I'm a 60's baby so grew up with 'The Troubles' on the news but being young not really knowing how & why it all started. We were lucky with the weather and the tour lasted a bit longer than 2.5 hours. If you're ok with being on your feet for that long then I can highly reccomend this tour. (There are toilet breaks along the way !)

    Important experience to take in
I had just done the Falls road side a few years back and wanted to check out the conflicted stories version. The Falls side this time was a bit disappointing, to be honest. The guide was overly distracted by some rather pushy guests and remained off topic for much of his time, debating Gaza and Israel, rather than sharing anything about his own community or much about the neighbourhood that we walked through. This was a pity, given that he clearly has lived through and seen so much! The Shankill side gave us a better history and overview of their community, which left us feeling a bit more lopsided (and my family members with gaps in the story that I filled in later for them) more so than I would have liked. Definitely recommend it, but make sure to read up on the situation beforehand!

A must for your Belfast visit
An excellent tour if you are interested in the history and up to date conflict in West Belfast. Both tour guides were passionate about their story. The second tour guide was angry in his recount of his experience. At times quite repetitive. It seems so hard to understand that a wall still divides and gates are locked at 7pm. We cane away with more understanding but also concerned that everyone is still at risk.

    Highly recommend
Heavy, raw and powerful! This is not for the faint of heart hearted. Very different approach from both guides. Starting at the catholic end of west Belfast with previous member of the IRA. Then onto the Protestant side with a previous british soldiers. What surprised me is that the gates at the wall between the 2 sides still lock at 7pm and do not reopen till 6am. 26 years after ceasefire Very emotional! I highly recommend

    Must-Do in Belfast
Thank you Robert, for a very personal and also emotional first part of this tour. I learnt a lot more details on the history of the British occupation here. But I also see a beacon of light within all this "they-did-we-did" conflicts. My deepest respect for your work and contribution to enable the youth to overcome the borders in their minds set up by the surrounding environment. Robert starts to understand his responsibility in solving this conflict. Five stars here. Mark then took over at "Checkpoint Charlie". We all felt his anger. But I never was explained, why the British invaded Ireland. I am really sorry, but counting up dead babies and hatred - also against their own British governments - will never ever open a path for at least negotiations to get over with this conflict. The thing I will remember from the second half of the tour is a situation on Shankill Road, where some ill-minded youngsters shouted at the group ”get of your f**k**g cu**s from our territory". This attitude tells a lot: the invaders and their descendants aren't ready to admit their part of this story. Two stars here.

    Immersed in the Troubles
This was a superb immersive experience into the Troubles and their antecedents and aftermath through people on both sides of the divide who lived through them. The Falls Road was a bit noisy and tended to make the guide's voice indistinct on occasions. Excellent value for money.

    Irish reconciliation British retaliation
Robert was AMAZING. His knowledge and experience made the tour very informative and his perspective was uplifting and encouraging. Mark's perspective was entirely one-sided with no understanding of history before his own experience. His choice of language portrayed a culture of hatred.

Experience both side of the troubles
What a great experience - receiving the conflicting views presented by each side of the conflict was very insightful and thought provoking - a must if you are in Belfast

    Thought Provoking Journey
This gives you an insight into the loyalist and nationalist sides of West Belfast. The walk starts at the infamous Divis Flats in nationalist West Belfast where your guide is a former combatant so as you expect has seen the Troubles at close hand. Paul the guide is an engaging man showing you the key locations around the Falls Road such as the murals, conflict with the security forces and gardens of remembrance for nationalist combatants. The second part of the tour is in loyalist West Belfast with our guide Mark an ex British combatant. It was good to see that the two shook hands. Mark gave us more a series of talks about the current and past situation for the loyalist population. He concentrated on the attacks on his community pointing out sites of attacks and the current political situation in Northern Ireland. The only things to remember are that each guide speaks from their past so please bear that in mind. We should remember that every death left a family with an unfillable regardless of the side of the peace wall you live on.

It was absolutely fantastic. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. Jake and jack were so knowledgeable, engaging and their stories really brought home what it meant to live in NI. I would recommend to anyone coming to Belfast to do this tour.

Thumbs up for this tour and to both guides Jack and Mark. Found the tour to be informative and compelling. If nothing else it reminds one, how easy it is for others to forget what the people of West Belfast, on either side of the divide have been subjected to in the past. The past is the past and will always be there. I can but hope that going forward both communities live to see a more inclusive society.

A fascinating tour of the History of the troubles with excellent informative dialogue from both sides of the wall. We have all read about it or seen the news at one time or another but to walk with the guides both of whom had involvement is something else. Excellent and good value, wrap up well as your outdoors for 3 hrs in all weathers.

Great tour with Michael who talked us through the areas and the conflict. Well known in his local area as a orator of the troubles.
Mark was also informative from a local perspective. Narrating us through some terrible times. A worth while tour.

A guided tour like no other we'd ever been on. Both guides haven't so much studied history as lived it, and being able to hear their perspectives first hand was a unique experience. This tour is about so much more than the murals and Peace Wall, it gives you a chance to understand why the divides between communities still run so deep. Would highly recommend to all visitors, regardless of background.

This tour is essential to understanding the conflict in any meaningful way. Are the tour guides biased? Yes of course, that’s their truth. They’re not here to convince you to take sides though, far from it. You’ll learn details and context from both sides but most importantly I came away with a much needed understanding of how each community feels about the other and why. Let’s hope for unity and integration as soon as it can happen. You won’t regret this one bit.

My friend and I heard did this tour a few days ago and it was amazing. We wanted to learn more about the Troubles and the current/historical conflicts in Northern Ireland. Our first tour guide Jack was great at explaining the history and giving context for the Nationalists. The second guide Mark was equally amazing at explaining the Loyalist perspective.
We learned so much about their individual experiences and they shared many personal stories. Because the tour group was only us plus two other people, we were able to ask tons of questions and get honest answers. Our trip to Belfast would have felt incomplete without this tour. I would 100% recommend this to everyone.

We took the tour under the pretense that we were getting a fair balance of views from both sides of the troubles. The first half seemed to do that. The second part was disgusting to listen to from a southern and catholic perspective. The Protestant guide, made the mistake of thinking we were all American. So me and my wife chose to allow him to believe it. He then started off okay. He did give his own views on it. But as he got more comfortable with the group. He began to spout out very childish and uneducated views about Bloody Sunday, saying that Cromwell was well in his right to attack Ireland. Sneering the catholic faith. Along with knocking Saint Patrick, Guinness, the Irish language and so on. It was disgraceful.

All the time, not knowing we were from the south. Then at the end of the tour. He said to us. There’s something round the corner that has nothing to do with the tour. But I’ll show you anyway. Said it was set up by someone else. But didn’t know who. Strange since he was quiet happy to rant about the material that was up on the walls around us. All naming atrocities over the years and pinning it all on Sinn Fein and the IRA. A lot of it had no connection to some of the people involved. Of there was no proof. Even comparing them to ISIS. It was propaganda. And shouldn’t have been on the tour.

In the end, we purposely let him no we were from the south. He ignored us from then on. Even though he was suppose to lead us out of the shankill road. But no, he walked ahead with the last remaining tourist and totally ignored us. He didn’t care if we got out safe. He was a total disgrace and should be fired from his job for such behavior. I don’t recommend this tour at all. The first half was great and fair. But boy god, the second part took the good out of it all

I really enjoyed the tour, and understand how complicated it must be to put one together in Belfast, but it had a few drawbacks. First of all it was very difficult to hear the tour guides because so much of the tour took place on busy roads. Second of all, while the first tour guide stuck mainly to the historical events and in his case the personal connections were just interesting details in service to the rest of the tour, our second tour guide seemed to be speaking from an incredibly defensive and emotional point of view and the information became politicised to the point of losing my interest (e.g. telling us who he would vote for if he were in Great Britain, taking us to a “mural” identifying political figures and their supposed crimes against the community and equating all kinds of terrorism from all over the world). I enjoyed myself and learned a lot, but particularly in the second half I could have used more detail and less bluster.
