What to expect
Choose a morning or afternoon departure, then meet your guide at Stonegate in central York to begin. Since its settlement in 71 AD, York has seen brutal warfare, political upheaval and industrial breakthrough, and today remains widely considered among the UK’s finest cities. During your walking tour, stroll through the historic streets with your guide and take in top sites of interest including Bedern Hall, Clifford’s Tower, Fairfax House, King’s Manor, the Multangular Tower, St. Mary’s Abbey, Stonegate, and St. William’s College. Along the way, learn of powerful figures such as Emperor Constantine, Guy Fawkes, and Richard III who helped shape the city we see today. Afterward, visit York Minster (own expense) — one of the largest cathedrals in northern Europe. Admire features including the Gothic nave and the 14th-century West Window, and marvel at the medieval stained glass you find. Select the upgraded tour option to include York Minster in your tour. When your time in York Minster comes to an end, return to your departure point in central York to conclude your tour.

Very good tour and great tour guide Emily
We had a great time exploring the city and the tour guide Emily was very friendly and very knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend if you're interested in the city and it's history!

Great tour!
Aug 2019 • Family
The tour was great, we learned so much and our guide was terrific! We kept moving so there wasn’t a lot of time to stop and take pictures but we covered a lot of ground and we’re glad to see everything we did. York Minster was also great. Buying tickets with the tour allowed us to bypass a very long line, totally worth it.

York Walking tour including York Minster
Feb 2019 • Family
Hello,
In general it was a very good tour, informative and well presented by our guide. One of the things worth mentioning is that the entry to York Minster is after the tour, on your own, it is not in the 2h time spot, we didn't know that.
I have also seen that many people are asking if the tour is wheelchair friendly, now, it depends. I had my disabled daughter with me, but she can walk too, although needs her special pushchair for longer walks. In general it is ok, although some wheelchair users might find it difficult to move on the bumpy streets on York which can be narrow and crowded too. We had to move through the crowd and look for our guide, for disabled people that might be a bit hard, even when they are pushed by someone. The next thing is the tour goes a bit through the Yorkshire Wall, which it is not accessible by wheelchair. Our guide forgot to tell us about it and we left the pushchair in front of the entry and walked all the way to our stop point, where she asked Where did you leave your pushchair? if we said at the entry, she said we are not going back that way :| So we left our group, picked the pushchair and met everybody in the next meeting point, which wasn't difficult to find. In general, that was actually the only point of the tour which wasn't wheelchair friendly. You also have to pay attention where is your next meeting point and better write down the names if you have to split from the group for a moment as you might easily get lost if you don't know York. Our guide was able to call us on the phone to find out where we are. We didn't have any problems with finding the way, but it can be challenging.
There is also no parking next to York Minster where the meeting point of the tour is close by, so my husband was late almost an hour for the tour as he had to find the place to park and then join us on the way - the tip for those not from York.
The tour itself, I would recommend. I hope you will find this review helpful :)

Fantastic day out
The York tour was amazing. Our tour guide, Simon, was very informative and friendly. We were also lucky enough to have him to ourselves! It was definitely a 5 star experience and would recommend to anyone visiting York, especially if it’s your first time visiting. It helped us find our feet around the area, learn about the history of York without it feeling like a year 11 history lesson but Simon also recommended other places to visit and bars/restaurants worth going to. Big thanks to Simon, keep doing what you’re doing!!

Made my Xmas
So not our first visit to York but our first without whining kids in tow as they’ve done the decent thing and grown up!! Booked a walking tour. We love walking. We love history and there is nothing quite like hearing it from a passionate local guide. Simon was amazing. We got very lucky as being this weekend in January not only was York surprisingly quiet. We got Simon to ourselves. Safe to say by the end of our comprehensive 2 hours walking he felt like an old friend. Certainly someone I’d happily spend more time talking history with for sure. Only tiny hiccup is my legs not being as young as they once were and I’m now slightly stiff after a full 12 hour day on my feet. Book the tour. Just do it!

Absolutely brilliant
Oct 2018 • Couples
We booked a weekend away to York, and we always like to go on tours wherever we go, so that we can sample the local culture and history of the place of where we are visiting.
We booked this tour for an 11 am tour on a Sunday morning and off we went to meet our guide and fellow tourists, when we got there we met our guide - Simon who then informed us that we were the only two that was booked for the tour, so we ended up with our very own personal tour.
Now when you go on these tours its always best with a guide who can tell you what you're looking at and the history behind it and Simon was excellent. Simon took us through the streets and various points of York and gave an thorough explanation of what we were looking at. So all I can say is if you get a chance to visit York, please go on this tour you will not be disappointed and if you're lucky enough you might get Simon who was an excellent tour guide of which I cannot praise highly enough. So I will just end this review by saying a big thank you to Simon from Linda and I.

This tour was excellent! There is no better way to see York than exploring its streets on foot - but with a guide it is even better. The city is rich in History and our friendly guide (and I hope she forgives me, but I have forgotten her name!) was actually an Archaeology student at the University. Her commentary was nothing short of remarkable! Not only did we come away with a wealth of knowledge, but we also got a very good insight into the layout of the town, which stood us in good stead over the next five days of our stay.
As well as a walk around the wall, a ticket to the Minster was also included as part of this very reasonably priced walking tour. Highly recommended!
