  • Travel seamlessly between sites in a minivan, including Lake Windermere
  • The tour adapts to the season—enjoy a lake cruise in the summer
  • Great for literary fans—learn about William Wordsworth, and Beatrix Potter
What to expect
  • Select standard or first class rail travel when you book. Then, make your own way to London’s Euston Station and board your train for England’s beautiful Lake District National Park, set in the rugged fells of Cumbria. Disembark at Oxenholme station then meet your friendly local guide and set off on your tour by comfortable, air-conditioned minivan.  Admire the spectacular falls and glassy lakes as you trace the banks of Lake Windermere on route to Waterhead, a favorite childhood haunt of the much-loved, early 20th-century children’s storyteller Beatrix Potter. If you’re taking your tour between April and October, step aboard a sightseeing boat here and enjoy a scenic cruise on this lovely expanse of water. Next, continue to the enchanting village of Hawkshead, a tangle of cobbled lanes and whitewashed cottages. Enjoy free time to explore independently, and view the Old Grammar School, attended by a young William Wordsworth between 1779 and 1787. Have lunch (own expense) here, and then drive to Tarn Hows, a popular beauty spot famous for its gorgeous lake-and-mountain scenery. Summer Tour Itinerary (April – October): Leave Tarn Hows for Hill Top, the old-world farmhouse bought by Beatrix Potter in 1905. Show your included ticket and stroll around the charming interior, left as in Beatrix’s time, with much of her furniture still in place. Recognize some of the pieces and features that appeared in her books, and scout around the gift shop and garden. Afterward, drive to the Lindeth Howe, a hotel set in a Victorian house formerly owned by Beatrix. Savor a delicious cream tea here before a drop-off at Oxenholme for your return trip to Euston. Winter Tour Itinerary (November – March): After time at Tarn How, venture through the idyllic Yewdale Valley past Skelwith Bridge and Yew Tree Tarn, and stop at Rydal Mount and Gardens, the home of the poet William Wordsworth between 1813 and 1850.  After a guided tour of the house and garden, followed by a cream tea, visit Bowness, a pretty town on the banks of Lake Windermere. Enjoy free time here, and perhaps visit the award-laden World of Beatrix Potter visitor center (own expense), before reconvening with your guide and driving to Oxenholme to catch your train back to London.

Peter of Mountain Goat was the BEST!
Sep 2019 • Couples
From the moment that Peter of Mountaingoat picked us up at the train station to to time he returned us there a few hours later there was never a dull moment.
His tour guide comments about the Lake District were informative, delightful, and entertaining. His historical knowledge of the Romans and Vikings and how they connected to the Lake District was awesome. Thank you to Evan Evans for such an excellent day tour and an extra special thank you to PETER for a wonderful day.

Amazing day!
Aug 2019
My mother, daughter and myself traveled to London for a three generations trip. We booked this trip before leaving the US and were not sure what to expect. We could not stop talking about how much we enjoyed this trip. Even though there was a light rain most of the day, we did not care. We were enjoying ourselves so much! We met the agent from Evan Evans group and received our tickets and instructions. Everything went smoothly, just like the agent explained to us. When we arrived at Oxenholme we were met by Peter, our guide from Mountain Goat tours. He was so knowledgeable about the history of area. He was funny and took his time with us. We did not feel rushed at all. The lake cruise was nice too. My 78 year old mother said she would definitely do this trip again. I agree with her. This was the best part of our trip to the UK.

Disappointing tour
Our guide was nice enough but was very disorganized. We wasted so much time with checking people in, her talking to the other driver or buying our tickets. There was hardly any time at each stop, especially at Beatrix Potter’s house. No one asked any questions or even spoke on the ride, which is so unlike any tour I’ve taken. The boat ride was a complete time waster. Instead of doing the boat, we could have more time at the other stops. The highlight of the day was the tea & scones. Thumbs down on this tour, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Lake District
Jul 2019 • Couples
Overall, this is a wonderful tour. We had a good time riding on Virgin train and seeing the landscape. When we arrived, Peter our tour guide was very visible and we all gathered promptly. He was very nice and explained what was going to happen for the day. The weather was not so cooperative. It rained all day making the boat tour miserable. Tea at the end of the day was delicious and allowed for us to connect with our fellow tour mates. Peter our tour guide with Goat adventures was a plethora of knowledge and was doing a splendid job. I would definitely recommend staying the night so as to get more out of the trip.

Day in the Lake District
Jul 2019 • Solo
This was a great day. I was promptly met at the train station and given direction on where the guide would meet me.
Virgin trains was incredibly comfortable and clean, made the 2.5 hour ride a joy.
Meryl our guide with Goat adventures was professional and pleasant. Answered all questions and was very friendly.
Definitely would recommend this tour!!

Very Disappointing "Lake District with Afternoon Tea & Cruise"
Mar 2019 • Couples
This tour package is false advertisement. We were advised to be at the station at 7:30 am for an 8:00 departure. It departed at 8:31 and the Evan Evans rep showed up at 8:10. The "afternoon tea" was only cream tea with a scone and tea. There was no time or place for lunch. We expected afternoon tea with sandwiches, etc. The cruise, included in the price, was cancelled due to rough water. They didn't know what to do with us and drove us around on narrow county roads for two hours. Thirty minutes at the Beatrix Potter house was not enough for shopping. This is my first ever bad review.

Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour, and I am sorry that you were disappointed with the experience and I hope I can provide some thoughts around this. As per our website we do indeed advertise a meeting time of 8.00am at Euston Station. After talking to our operators, it seems that the decision was made to cancel the lake cruise on this date. Safety of our passengers is paramount to us, and these decisions are not taken lightly, but safety must come first. It is extremely rare that this cruise is cancelled, as it is a cruise on a lake, however the weather lately has been quite extraordinary. Please contact us on 02079501777 to organise a refund of the cruise portion of the tour. Instead of the cruise, a driving tour around the lake was taken, as we still wanted you to see the sights. The roads around the lake district are indeed narrow country roads, as again you are in the country. The scheduled stop for lunch is Hawkshead, at which point you have free time to eat lunch. I apologise that the afternoon tea was not as expected, and that you would have preferred more time at Beatrix Potters house, we will pass this onto our product department. Thank you again for your feedback, and if you would like to provide further feedback please email us at reservations@evanevanstours.co.uk Kind regards, Evan Evans Team

Lovely trip
Although trip advisor members were quick to jump on the don't go if you only have one day bandwagon when I originally inquired about this trip it was a lovely trip, only about a two and a half hour train trip. It was nice to see outside of London and the Lake District was stunning. While I would certainly love to spend more time there most likely I will never get to the UK again so I am very glad I went and Mountain Goat who does the tour in the Lake District does a fabulous job.
