Make your way to a central location in Quebec City’s Upper Town, and then join your guide for a small-group tour of the historic center—a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Set out on foot to running commentary on the modern-day culture and long history of Quebec City, passing stone buildings with a distinctly European feel. You’ll see the Fortifications of Quebec, and learn the important role that the city walls once played. Pass La Citadelle de Quebec (Quebec Citadel), an active military installation and the official residence of the Canadian monarch, then take in Notre Dame des Victoires—one of the oldest stone churches in Canada. Cross Place Royale, often called the birthplace of French America, and wrap up the tour near the base of the Old Quebec Funicular, where you can hop a ride back up to the Upper Town without retracing your steps uphill.

We only had eight hours to spend in Quebec and took the Grand Tour to get a quick sampling of city architecture and culture. Our tour guide, Michael, was excellent with an impressive breadth of knowledge about Quebec’s history. There was an ever-present enthusiasm in his voice that exuded his love for the city he now calls home that made others on his tour appreciate it even more as well. Michael was in no hurry to rush through the tour since those in our group didn’t have dependencies that would be impacted; so, what was scheduled to be 2 hours lasted 40 minutes longer, which was a pleasant surprise!

Tours Voir Québec likes to keep the size of the tours small (I believe 12 at max) so that it's easier to interact with the guides and focus more on topics of interest to the group. We came away feeling enriched from the experience, learning much more than we ever knew prior to the tour and wanting to learn more once we got home. I highly recommend taking one of their tours if you get an opportunity...it will be a great experience at a value price.

This was an excellent walking tour lasting over two hours taking in the old town both up high and down below.

Our guide was Yves who was very knowledgeable indeed about the history, architecture and other key facts and figures about the city. He was also a very friendly and likeable guide.

We covered a good distance during the tour and learned many interesting facts not just about old Quebec but also about Canadian history in general.

I believe this was good value for money and enjoyed the experience very much.

It was a super warm day for June and Yves made his best efforts to find the group some shade if at all possible.

I would highly recommend this company and tour if you are in old Quebec and want to know more about it.

Yves was also very happy to recommend local restaurants and other activities after the tour.

We were in Quebec City for several days for an event and wanted to take an informative tour of Old Quebec. We settled on this walking tour and we are glad we did!

Francis was our guide and immediately we could tell he was going to be fun. He is a history and architecture buff, with a wealth of knowledge of the area. Everywhere we turned he shared fantastic details with a stellar personality blending candor and humor.

Our tour ran slightly over the designated two hours and we would have been happy to spend twice that much time learning about this beautiful city.

HIGHLY recommend this tour if you'd like to learn about the history and architecture of Old Quebec from an extremely knowledgeable local.

Another kudos for his speaking very LOUD and CLEAR... easily heard even in more noisy environments.

Note: we heard a couple folks with thin skin and delicate sensibilities may not take kindly to factual relaying of historical events. That's a shame to go through life looking to be offended. Francis is a gem. Highly recommend. 🤙🏼🤙🏼

We really enjoyed our tour with Denis. He showed up right on time and we were a very small group. His English was very good and he knew so much about the history of the city. He said it was our tour, not his, so he would stop and talk about any thing or place as long as the people in the group wanted to stay there/on that subject. He gave lots of insider’s tips about where to eat, shop, explore. It gave us ideas for things to do later in the day. I recommend taking the walking tour as early in your visit to the city as possible so you can follow up later by further exploring the places that they recommend on the tour. We had explored the city on our own the night before, and he took us back to some of the places that we had already been, but without knowing the history or the meaning behind the places, they’re nowhere near as meaningful. After the tour, we really had a sense of the culture and pride of the people of Quebec.

We really enjoyed our walking tour. It was nice to have a local guide and she was able to answer all of our questions, in addition to making a food recommendation. We visited a number of the important places, and enjoyed learning the history of the city from the guide. She was definitely very knowledgeable and her English was excellent! There were 14 in our tour group, which felt reasonable. You end the tour at a different location than you started the tour, and it would have been nice for them to include a funicular pass with the tour. Our tour took 2.5 hours, despite the fast walking, so something to consider if booking back-to-back with another event. Overall, we enjoyed the tour and would recommend it to anyone visiting Quebec City for the first time!

When my husband and I arrived to Quebec City, we didn't know anything about Quebec City and its history and culture. Thank you to the tour guide (I am so sorry I forgot his name). He was so passionated about the history and cultures. With the tour guide, we've learned so much about Quebec City and how it was discovered and built. We didn't know Quebec City was colonized by four countries: France, England, Scotland, and Ireland. The city's architecture is magnificent. I was awestruck at every street corner I walked on. I felt like I was in Paris. Quebec City won my heart. Merci beaucoup to the tour guide. Nous avons beaucoup apprécié la visite et votre compagnie. I highly recommend this tour to people who want to visit Quebec City and want to learn its history and culture.

This is a terrific walking tour through Old Quebec. Our guide (Annabelle?) was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and animated, and took us to a lot of places that we ultimately returned to for a longer visit. The tour does have a decent amount of stairs (mostly downhill) towards the end, so some visitors might struggle with that part, and it does move quickly. I highly recommend this tour for your first (or only) day in Quebec City, to get oriented to what you should go see, where everything is, and of course learn about the history.

Overall, we had a nice time and learned some interesting things about Quebec. The walk was indeed downhill as advertised. More info about the 1845 fires and First Nations would have been greatly appreciated. Quebec is one of the continents' first cities, yet the buildings are not that old, so I think more background on what was originally here before the fires would have been nice. Also, when asked what started the fires, the guide said arson, which research has shown to be a myth. We enjoyed the discussion about the Quebec independence referendums. It certainly seemed like a French settler/citizen focused tour, and discussion of relations and contributions of the first nations was noticeable absent. For example: Near City Hall was a clock donated by the Swiss which we stood at and discussed for five minutes. Yet the wall of City Hall (facing the fountains and the clock) has a large message written in a first nation language. That was completely ignored. We proceeded to a small park like area where the church and Pope's visit was discussed, as well as the gravel outline of an original government building. The park was surrounded by several cannons. There was no discussion about them. Seemed like a missed opportunity. Overall, I'm glad we took the tour, but I would recommend that the guide includes more diverse topics. I was googling as we walked, to fill in several of the gaps myself.

Our guide was a very nice man named James (Jim). He was very, very knowledgeable about the history of Quebec City. But the amount of information imparted was overwhelming, it felt like a three hour University lecture, long drawn out stories, too much minute details, there was no way to absorb it all. We have done walking tours in cities around the world. The best, in our opinion, is when there is a good mix of things to see and hear. On this tour, we didn't really see much of old part of the City. We spent a full hour and 15 minutes next to/on one side of the Chateau Frontenac before we ever set foot on the streets of Quebec City - I timed it as it was getting difficult to stand in the first couple of locations without moving. We actually got passed by another walking tour that left 30 minutes after ours! The tour was supposed to be two hours long, our lasted two hours and 40 minutes. More wasn't better, and the Guide was rather dismissive of several tourists' needs to stay on schedule due to other commitments. At least one couple bailed after two hours. We stayed with it until the end, but it threw off our timetable for the rest of the day.

Bonjour. A one star review is always very disappointing for us, especially when the review mentions that the guide was knowledgeable and nice! We work really hard to deliver the best experiences possible to all our visitors and we ask our guides to keep a good pace when they conduct their tours. If the guide receives lots of questions at the start of their tour, they might be slowed down which can indispose the participants that are not overly curious about the history of our beautiful town. This seems to have been the case for you and we apologize n the name of James. We did share your review with James to make sure that he keeps a good pace even if he receives lots of questions, and he will adjust accordingly. Thank you.
