    Stop: 3 hours
To the historic streets of Halifax and hear authentic tales of fortress city and the Maritime misfortunes it holds. What better way than to see the rich heritage and sites up close and personal with a guide. You'll learn the historical, cultural, political, and military significance of Halifax's top landmarks, as well as more modern locales and some hidden gems that is only known by the staff at Nova Scotia Van Tours. We'll depart directly from the cruise pavilion and up Terminal Road towards Hollis St and point out the historic Westin Hotel and VIA train station. Departing Continuing on South St we'll discuss the park there and tell about the former controversial Cornwallis statue. Next onto Barrington St., tell about the Waverley Inn and the story about Oscar Wilde, the Old Graveyard and the gravesite of Major General Robert Ross, of the War of 1812 fame who burned the Whitehouse in 1814. We'll see Government House, the oldest intact executive mansion in North America. Building began in 1799. The first governor there was Governor Wentworth, the former governor of New Hampshire. Depending on your groups time the Tour could either continue up Spring Garden Road and take in the cafes, restaurants and shops that are truly shaping the city's culinary reputation, or turn right onto Brunswick St., pointing out Royal Artillery Park. The tour could turn left and then walk up the roadway to the top of Citadel Hill and to visit the fort and the noon time gun. As well, our tour could continue up Sackville St., to the Public Gardens, explaining the history of the area you could while away the hours in this leafy paradise. Continuing along the way pointing out the Lord Nelson Hotel, The Bengal Lancers, the history of the Camp Hill area from 1776, particularly interesting for Bostonians with the Evacuation of Boston refugees who camped there.) There are plenty of exciting options to choose from, whether you're interested in famous historical figures, fascinated by our Maritime History, or just want to sample Halifax's brilliant food, attractions and architecture and like all Blue Diamond Tours it is always personalized , customized to you and your group were we can always take one of many "side-tracks", each one moving away from the main path to give a more in-depth look at one part of the city. We'll depart directly from the cruise pavilion and up Terminal Road towards Hollis St and point out the historic Westin Hotel and VIA train station.Take in St. Matthew United Church, turn left onto Spring Garden Road. Next the beautiful St. Mary's Basilica the old library, Winston Churchill statue, new library. After pointing out distant points of interest and buildings from Citadel Hill, our tour would continue down the hill to the Old Town Clock, speaking on the Metro Centre and then continuing down Carmichael St where we take you on a journey through the heart of Halifax to the Five Fishermen, St. Paul's Anglican Church, The Grand Parade and City Hall.Back at the waterfront and heading towards and visiting the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. Afterwards visiting the Keith's Brewery before walking back to the cruise ship dock with due time for your group to either self-explore or plenty of time to board your ship.Contact us today and we'll arrange for one of our guides to tour you around Halifax, who know the city better than anyone else, can entertain you with entirely new stories and provide fascinating insights.Back Down to Barrington St., and then down George St, stopping at Province House. We'll continue onwards to Lower Water St, turning left and heading over to the Historic Properties. From here, walking along the waterfront in a southward direction. Once again Depending on time restraints, a trip across the harbour to Dartmouth and back on the ferry could be a great addition and provide some spectacular views of the city and the harbor fronts of both Halifax and Dartmouth.
