    Whale Sharks!!
WOW! What an amazing experience! Guide Mario, Capitan Jorge and the whole crew were excellent. Their love for these beautiful creatures and the desire to share their extensive knowledge was inspiring. We would absolutely do the tour again. That being said, it is not for everyone. First point- it is 2 hr bus ride to LaPaz in a very nice air conditioned motor coach- and a 2-2.5 hour return depending on where your hotel is located along the route. Since we were staying in San José, our pickup was at 5:45 AM and we were dropped last at 7:30 PM. Why so long? SEMARNAT, the Mexican Government Agency that manages tourism in the whale shark area imposes stringent limits on the number of boats and people allowed to swim on a given day. During the season which typically starts late November/early December, the agency assigns 4 -2 hr time slots of 16 boats each slot. All of the tour companies that apply for the slots are notified at 7 AM on the day of the tour how many boats they have approved and what the slots are. It’s basically a lottery and the tour company may get all, some or none of their boats approved. And not all approved could be in the same time slot. Each boat holds a max of 10 people with a guide and captain. A max of 5 people and the guide are allowed to be in the water at any point. These are shaded panga boats, small with ability to move efficiently through the area. So point two- no guarantee if you have a tour booked that Cabo Adventures or any other operator will get a slot or slots for your day. Nothing they can do about it, it’s how the system works and it is for the protection of the whale sharks Because we were in the first week of season, SEMARNAT had a limit of 8 boats per time slot. We were fortunate that all 3 boats were approved in two different time slots. Once approval was received, it was hit the road to make it to the first two slots from 11-1. The third slot was 1-3 There are more approvals required to enter the area, and once the boat is in, the two hours starts ticking and the search is on. May see a shark immediately, may need to run the grid for a while. Doesn’t matter 2 hours is 2 hours. When time is up, you’re outta there. One of our boats found a shark immediately, but our boat had to go almost the length of the grid (50 minutes of the 2 hours) Once a boat is on a shark it is “theirs “. No stealing allowed! And again, only 5 people and 1 guide in the water. Point three- pack your patience. There can be a lot of waiting around on land and a lot of searching the ocean for a glimpse of tail or dorsal fin - yes it looks like a shark’s dorsal fin. But these guys are “shark whisperers”. They know the feeding patterns and where the sharks like to hang out. Our patience was rewarded when we found 4 different sharks with no other boats in slight. Now it’s go time. We had the opportunity to swim 3 times, once as a group of 5, and twice with our traveling party. I won’t go into details of what you can and can not do and how to approach the shark, your guide will provide that in great detail. Point 4 - listen to your guide! Follow his or her instructions for the best experience and don’t break the rules. To do so can cause the boat to be expelled immediately ( yes SEMARNAT tracks each boat via GPS and has advanced technology that can make the boat’s actions visible from a control site on land. ) and cause the guide to be penalized. Point 5 - this is not a leisurely snorkel! It is a workout. My husband and I are in our early 60’s, very fit snorkel a lot and are multi sport folks (hiking mt biking snowboard cross country skiing and snowshoe). 5- 10 minutes in the water we were out of breath. Two experienced divers in our group were completely exhausted. Whale sharks swim FAST and turn in a dime when they are feeding. Pay attention and be ready to move when your guide says move so you don’t get whacked by the tail. Also, the water can be choppy. If you are prone to seasickness use a patch or take Dramamine. A person in our group who had never experienced seasickness was miserable. I also won’t expound on lunch. It was good and filling with multiple choices. Long review for sure! Some of this information we knew going in but quite a bit we didn’t. Not trying to discourage ANYONE it was the highlight of our trip to Cabo and a bucket list adventure of a lifetime- one I hope to repeat with my granddaughter in a few years. Hope that this information will be helpful for those considering this excursion!

We had a wonderful time. Beautiful views of Cabo and the peninsula with a beautiful sunset to top it off. The cocktails and snacks paired well with our sailing. Tito, Captain Charlie, and Hillary were great hosts and made sure everyone was having a good time.

    Whale shark snorkeling w/Mario
BUYER BE AWARE! not beware, because the whole excursion was just fantastic, well organized, well informed, awesome staff and overall executed phenomenally. Our guide Mario along with the captain Jorge, were just amazing. Mario was with us from the first minute at the Marina meeting spot, his energy and enthusiasm were great but more than that was his organization, knowledge of pretty much everything Cabo, and his obvious love for his job, Cabo, Cabo biology and the whale sharks. We were impressed by his attention to detail, attention to every single person in the tour and our kids. He took our 8-year old out by herself and made sure she was able to swim right to the whale shark, took awesome gopro pics and never faltered in his focus and awesome attitude. He also explained clearly from the start what we needed to do, what we should expect, and the potential pitfalls of the day. All in we left at 6am from our resort and returned a little after 7pm, LONG DAY, FANTASTIC DAY!

He explained history, gave fun facts and answered our questions. He has great sense of humor and made the tour very enjoyable to all age groups. Highly recommended!!!

    Proactive customer service
Cabo Adventures proactively canceled our Whale Shark Snorkel due to not enough whale sharks. We so appreciated them not just taking us out and having a little "Oh well, I guess there aren't any whale sharks." We were able to get a full refund, and we booked a different adventure with them.

Out of my 25+ years of traveling abroad and doing excursions, this was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had. I booked the Luxury Sailing, Snorkel and Lunch Cruise for 6 of us (2 moms and 4 eighteen year old girls) and the other mom got extremely carsick on the way to the dock. She was unable to go with us, but you guys refused to give her a refund. You said cancellation is 24 hours in advance, but obviously we weren’t cancelling, and the 5 of us still went. It’s not even about the money, it’s about your poor customer service and greed. You offered to rebook her on another day, as if that was any kind of solution. Sure….she wants to go by herself another time. We left the next day anyway. To add to that, you also oversold the trip, and 2 of the 5 of us had no place to sit on the boat. But now to address an even bigger problem, the tour guide, Jesus, was the absolute rudest person I have ever encountered on an excursion. His snide remarks and nasty attitude did not sit well with me. You might remind your employees who are in customer service that being nice and friendly is part of the job description. The captain and female photographer (I don’t recall their names) were very nice and we appreciated them. Kindness goes a long way! Jesus, on the other hand, needs an attitude adjustment or needs to find a new job outside of dealing with paying customers. You advertise world-class service, but unfortunately you didn’t deliver. What was supposed to be a super fun day with our girls on their Senior spring break trip turned into complete disappointment. Duly noted.

For start my wife made the reservations, for me it was the worst trip I’ve been. Aron the sailor was so lazy and he didn’t offer me drinks. The food was really bad and the shrimps give me tummy ache. The photographer monica took really bad photos of me and my wife, i ask her for a picture at the bay and she was is her phone all the time that never took me the one picture i ask for at Santa Maria bay, it was 75 USD for less than thirty pictures, for me is really unfair. The worst part all the crew was drinking alcohol the way back, it’s zero professional doing that when you’re working and we can see. One more thing the capitan Karin didin’t sail. I asked him but he told me there was not time. The capitan, aron the sailor and monica as the photographer were the worst tripulation in that sailboat, the food was horrible too, not a bit professional. For the prices they have is too much for that horrible experience. I’ll never go back to Cabo adventure. Less than one star is too much.

The return sailing part was the highlight of the trip. I won’t spoil it, but be ready to hold on tight! The crew was excellent- very attentive and gracious. Although my crew of 4 did not consume any alcohol, everyone else enjoyed a bottomless open bar (no wine though). We had endless topo chico and juices. We enjoyed cruising to the arch and watching the mantas fly out of the water.

Why 3 stars? The description of this tour is deceptive. They give you 4 grilled shrimp on 2 skewers, a scoop of ceviche, fruit, 2 chocolate balls, chips to share in a tray for 2 people. The snack and lunch is shared (for 2). You never step foot on a sand beach. In fact, they tell you not to go ashore when they take you snorkeling because they don’t have permission to be on the beach. We snorkeled 1 spot for 45 minutes. They have 2 paddle boards to be shared by the entire group. The photographer took lots of pictures but wouldn’t tell me how they sold them until after we saw the photos (a package deal). You’re asked to follow her after the cruise to see the photos ($79 for airdrop pics and 1 print per family). We were charged $100 because there were 4 of us (cousin and daughter and my daughter and I). There was another family of 4 that was charged $79. The kayak trip was MUCH better and the photos in that tour are included!❤️

Dear Siel_Team, We are sorry to read that our selection of food didn’t meet your expectations, we usually have good comments regarding this service. We can also arrange customized private charters to suit your needs and have an additional services catalogue to complement your experience. You can find all details such as the duration and what is included in each tour in all our promotional material, such as brochures, magazines as well as our website on the "What you need to know before you book" section on each adventure. We appreciate it if you can let us know where did you book or where did you find this information regarding going to the beach (we do go to a bay to snorkel), as it is not expressed in any of our promotional materials and it is important for us to know the origin of this misleading information to info@cabo-adventures.com Regarding the cost of the pictures, we stand behind our rates, as the staff that captures, processes, and sells them is highly qualified and delivered with professional quality. The pricing of each package consists of the number of people in the group, the tour in which you participate, and the type of package. If you should not wish to purchase the picture package, you are welcome to use your own devices on the sailing tours. We appreciate you mentioned the opportunity areas you encountered during your visit; we will consider them in the future. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

I would describe the excursion somewhere between mediocre and good. The driver was on time for pickup in the morning and the check in process at the marina was organized and efficient. We had a crew of 4, captain, mate and two photographers. The photographers were great and captured some good shots. The mate was attentive and kept everyone fed and drinks in hand.

The captain took us to see some sites along the way which was fine but we were looking for more sailing and a more upbeat experience. We sat in silence for the majority of the trip with no music. The liquor was bottom of the barrel which took a toll on you after being in the sun all day. For a luxury SAILING trip we only sailed for 15 minutes. The snorkeling equipment was adequate but needs replacing.

Overall, good excursion. If you looking for a more upbeat experience with a younger crowd I would not recommend this trip.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience with us, we welcome all comments since they help us learn and improve. We try to provide our guests with a real sailing experience and we understand that our guests have different expectations. Sailing is an activity-dependent on wind and water conditions, the force from the wind while having the sails hoisted will make the sailboat move and naturally heel over. As you mentioned, the sails get lowered only at the return, and the rest of the tour, we are motoring through the water. It is important that you know that we can also arrange customized private charters to suit your needs for you and your party, we offer regattas for an adrenaline filled day and experienced sailors. Thank you again for your time and visit. Best regards!

This excursion was a ton of fun and Franco and the captain were fantastic. The food was delicious and Franco did a great job of making everyone feel comfortable. The sailing portion can be a bit intense, so be prepared for that. It’s still a lot of fun, but once they open the sails, you begin to enter adventure territory and exit a relaxing experience on a boat. So if you’re hoping to just laze around on a boat for 4 hours, keep that in mind, because the last 30 minutes of our trip involved opening up the sails and venturing out into the Pacific Ocean. The water is much rougher out there than in the Sea Of Cortez where the rest of the excursion takes place, but if you’re up for a bit of an adrenaline rush, I’d definitely recommend it. That good news is that nobody on our trip got seasick because the captain did a great job of navigating the waves in the Pacific, and Franco did a great job of explaining what we needed to do to stay safe and and an enjoyable experience both during the sailing portion and the cruising portion.

The guide was wonderful, and the experience was great. We got to see all kinds of fish, rays, jumping out of the water, and even a couple of reef sharks, while we were snorkeling! The only negative thing, and the reason why I gave four stars and not five, is the transportation. We paid for round-trip transportation, but we were not informed about the return trip. Apparently the bus leaves at the top of the hour each hour. We arrived back shortly before 4 o’clock We sat and enjoyed the snack that was included in our excursion. We were not told that the bus was leaving at 4 o’clock and when we went into the building at 4:04 we’re told the bus left but we could take the next bus at 5. We could not wait until 5:00 as we had reservations so we had to pay for our own trip back which cost us another $25 by water taxi.

It was an average excursion - nothing special but not horrible. The crew was welcoming and tried to be funny. Food was good but it is hard to share a plate while in such close quarters (sail boat) and on the water. Drinks were meh but getting drunk wasn’t our goal. We had a windy day so snorkeling was awful and paddle boarding was not offered. The crew did not bother to point out any whales. Instead, this was done by watching other boats in our vicinity and listening to those people react. I wish other reviewers had mentioned how cold the water is this time of year because I would have reconsidered or not booked at all. I would never suggest February for this outing. The water was beautiful but we could’ve just taken a water taxi to Lovers Beach for a fraction of this cost. For the money we spent, I recommend doing something else: a catamaran or a sunset cruise or food tour in town. Communication about return to resort was also lacking. They have a bus that goes back each hour. This was never communicated and our boat crew just disappeared at the dock area. We rushed back thinking we had been left. In conclusion, the crew was nice but I would not book with this company again.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience with us, we are sorry to read that we didn’t meet your expectations. For those who wish to do whale watching, we have 2 different activities specially designed for this, in the rest of the activities, such as Day Sailing, we do not do whale watching since it is not the point of this activity. This being said, we thank you for taking the time to share this valuable feedback and sharing your comments with other adventurers! We hope to welcome you soon on an adventure that meets your preferences more accordingly.

We arrived with the credit card our trip was purchased on several weeks prior to our excursion. The lesson- don't forget your ID. It does not matter if you have paid online and the transaction has already been paid for. You need your ID AND the credit card. That was our fault as it is in the fine print of the email they send you. Thankfully we were traveling with a group of 8 and someone had an ID and a credit card, so they credited our card and charged another person's card for the trip. In doing so, they charged them $40 more, even though we are assured by multiple people at the desk that they would be charged the same amount.

As for the trip, it was just okay. The boat captain and the co-captain (person serving drinks and food) were not unkind, but they did not go out of their way to make sure everyone was having a good time. At one point, I actually had to ask multiple times to get another drink. I have been on several other sailing excursions in Mexico and this one was by far the least "fun" from a "we want to get on the water and have a good time" standpoint. The snorkeling was okay, but they would not let us get more than 10 feet from the boat and we got nowhere near the established snorkeling area. Again, I am writing this review from the perspective of having done several other trips. The food was good, but you will have to share it with your partner/spouse. My husband and I joked that if we had brought our teenage kids they would not have been happy about that :-)

Don't get me wrong, I saw several other Cabo Adventure boats coming into the marina that did look like they had a good "adventure" (dancing, listening to music, smiling)... we just didn't get on one of those boats. So when we got home and were charged an extra $40 for the excursion, I just had to get on here and write a review.

Dear MammaG93, We thank you for visiting us and we are sorry to hear we didn’t meet your expectations, we appreciate you mentioned the opportunity areas you encountered during your visit; we will consider them in the future. It is important to mention that transportation is an optional service that we offer from most hotels in Los Cabos, should you not wish to take advantage of this service, all guests are welcome to make their own transportation arrangements covering their own cost. Transportation service is included for some activities, and for others like sailing tours, it has an additional cost of $5 usd per person which is made clear in the confirmation emails ($5 usd x 8 people = $40 usd). Thank you for your time and visit, we hope to welcome you back soon!

From top to bottom I felt safe, they were very careful and serious with their covid protocols, the sailing boat is going 50% capacity so you can have plenty of space between other people! Cesar and Daniel, were great, From the beginning they welcome you with clear instructions, and how to be safe, plus a yummie mimosa! We arrive to the bay for snorkel and thanks to the chips they throw into the water, I saw tons of colorful fish even a couple of blowfish. They also offer paddle board, I didn’t use it but I thought it was cool to have. When we got back to the boat, again, Daniel and Cesar were super helpful, and served lunch and margaritas =)
And even that it was a snorkel tour, we saw three whales on the way, and they were nice enough to take us closer to them and whatch their little show! I thought it was an increíble extra touch for the day! I will totally recommend it and ask for Daniel and Cesar as your capitans!! Darío the photographer was awesome too, and had a nice chat on the way!

This experience was horrible, I’ve been to other excursions in Cabo and thought this was going to exceed my expectations just because it’s pricy and it kind of “offers” a lot in their description but. First of all transportation at the hotel they didn’t update the number of people under my reservation. I added 2 extra people a day before they sent me an email confirmation and then they said they didn’t know about this, they forgot to update their data. After that, When we arrived we were given the safety instructions by Jesus who was our guide, TERRIBLE person by the way, he was rude, annoying and just unpleasant to be around. He made you feel like he was mad about being there or working he was like in a bad mood and didn’t make any effort to make everyone on board feel good. He was just lazy and didn’t let us use the paddle boards because he said the water was “rough” (it wasn't) there was another Cabo adventures boat next to us and they were using their paddle boards he was just lazy to take them out. Food was ok. They make you share you don’t get you own plate which sucks. And the most important thing we booked this tour because it involves SAILING right? Oh well no sailing at all. Not even an effort to do so and they never explained why they didn’t do it? Honestly it’s just better to get into another boat in Cabo that will take you to the arch and have an open bar ten times cheaper than this. Don’t book with them stay away please don’t waste your money.

Dear carolinafF438SL, We are sorry to read that your sailing experience didn’t meet your expectations. Please accept our most sincere apologies for all the inconveniences during your visit, it is definitely not acceptable for our standards that we are always proud to uphold. Sailing is an activity dependent on wind and water conditions. The force from the wind while having the sails hoisted will make the sailboat naturally heel over, our expert crew members are the ones that decide if the sailing part can be done. Please be assured that we have fully investigated your comments and immediate actions have been implemented for the comfort of all our guests.
