About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- renegG4771NI0 contributionsNever even got to touch a rock. Unprofessional company and terrible experience overall. DON'T DO IT!DON'T DO IT! DON'T DO IT! DON'T DO IT! I made the mistake of not reading the most recent reviews and I wish I hadn't. Yes, they by far have the most amount of best reviews but I honestly don't know how. I booked this from the United States but I was born in Mexico and speak Spanish fluently and this was still a terrible process for me so I can only imagine how it is if you don't speak Spanish. This company is unprofessional and it felt like I was dealing with teenagers. I bought the Nido de los Aguiluchos, Monterrey, Mexico climbing tour package from TripAdvisor (thank god I did) about 2 weeks before the expedition and was confirmed by Tripadvisor a few days after. The week of the climb I still hadn't heard anything from Gaia so I decide to reach out to them directly through their Whatsapp. I called first, no answer. I texted about 30 min later giving them my name and telling them i'm reaching out to confirm. They respond with literally just a 'Hello' but never answered my question. After a couple hours I ask again and then they said let me check. They never responded until I had to follow up with them the next day to ask the same question and they said yes you're confirmed, we just need emergency contact info and your height and weight. I gave it to them and they said i was all set. ONE DAY before the tour, they text me if i would like to change my package to a completely different tour from 4am-7pm because they don't have enough spots for me and my wife although it was already paid for and confirmed twice by TripAdvisor and them. I said no, we already have plans, and ask if they will be cancelling my reservation. They said maybe, let me check and didn't respond until 7pm, mind you, we were supposed to meet them at 5am so we had to go to sleep early. They responded that they figured it out but will have to meet them by 430am instead. I said no worries. AT 9pm they send me another message saying that we have to be there at 4am now. By that point we had had it with their unprofessionalism and frankly felt unsafe going forward with so many time changes so we asked them to cancel it and give us a refund. They were very rude said we don't do any cancellations, that since they only moved up the time by an hour it wasn't a big deal. I reached out to TripAdvisor, they asked Gaia to give us a refund but the refused again. After I sent TripAdvisor/Viator screenshots of the Whatsapp conversations they immediately sent us our refund. Save yourself the headache and book with someone else that deserves your money. P.S. it may seem tempting to buy directly from the websites of some of these companies because they are generally cheaper then through a third-party but if at all possible, I'd pay the extra amount and go with a third-party for the peace of mind. It saved me $200.Written 3 September 2024

- TEX78780 contributionsTransportation comfort and safety concern.Great experience! Some of the best canyoneering you can do as an amateur. The experience will surprise most guests. You can't do a tour like this in the U.S. due to the risk of injury and liability. If you are confident of your abilities than this is wonderful trip. However, be advised that the transportation needs some of improvements. Our van ride was really, really rough to say it mildly (almost hazardous). There were too many passengers for the number of seats available. The A/C did not work. We had to squeeze too many passenger on bench seats. I had room for only half of my butt on the roughest ride I can remember. Two weeks later, I butt is still sore. As for consideration for transportation comfort and safety during transport to/from the tour when you book your trip.Written 25 August 2024
- 974haileyv0 contributions:)The hike was great! Came from Tennessee to do this hike and wasn’t disappointed. It is physically demanding but worth it for the views at the top.Written 30 July 2024
- Daydream388800485600 contributionsGreat hike! Great guides! This was one of the most amazing hikes we have been on, the view looked as good or even better than the pictures! Absailing is a new thing for us but the guides made us feel really safe! What an experience!Written 17 July 2024
- U8405ZOmichaelh0 contributionsA great trip and worth the effort to reach the summit. The repelling was a first and awesome!Great guides and fun group doing the trip solo. - Meander4561000 contributionsNido de los Aguiluchos tour with Gaia extreme tours.Visiting Nido de Los Aguiluchos was the highlight of my visit to Monterrey. The guides from Gaia Extreme Tours were professional. I would go with them on a tour again. If you are in poor physical shape, are inexperienced with hiking and are afraid of heights then don’t go on the Nido de Los Aguiluchos tour. Otherwise get ready for the experience of a lifetime (rappel, via Ferrata and hiking).Written 6 July 2024
- brittanypH4355AI0 contributionsMonterrey, December 2023This was so much fun and the views were insanely beautiful! The trip begins with a rocky ascent to the first amazing viewpoint at sunrise. This was steep, but definitely possible for anyone moderately in shape and determined. The guides did a great job helping anyone needing support or extra rest breaks. Once at the top, there are a couple of quick Via Ferrara sections and then comes the 3 rappels! Seems scary when you are looking down, but once you go it’s very easy and you feel very secure. Lots of fun and great pictures!Written 2 July 2024
- PaJeLe0 contributionsUnprofessional and UnresponsiveMy recent experience with Gaia Xtreme México was the worst I have ever had with any tour operator, and the worst experience during my multiple trips to Mexico. I have visited Mexico over ten times, and this was a significant disappointment. I booked and prepaid for the Nido de los Aguiluchos hike directly from their website, swayed by the numerous glowing reviews. However, the few negative reviews I encountered were about a woman named Ana, who is the company’s point of contact. Unfortunately, my experience confirmed these criticisms. I reached out to Ana through WhatsApp to confirm whether the hike was still scheduled, as I had received no communication from the company and my tour was set for 5 AM the next day. Her initial response was "let me check," and that was the last I heard from her for several hours. I sent several follow-up messages, asking if the tour was canceled so I could make alternative plans for my only day in Monterrey. Each time she read the messages (as indicated by WhatsApp) and then went offline without responding. Finally, around midnight, she informed me that the trip would not take place and promised a refund. The refund process was equally frustrating. Despite her assurances, the refund was not sent, and each time I inquired about it, she read the message and did not respond. Only after I threatened to dispute the charge with my credit card company did she send the refund immediately. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable and made the company seem like a scam. I hope they take steps to improve their communication and customer service to avoid such issues in the future. I cannot recommend this company based on my experience.Written 31 May 2024

- chaddO5868TB0 contributionsKnowledgeable and helpfulWhat a great hike and repels! The bottom section included an area of loose rocks so it took extra concentration and effort to get up but the views at the top were absolutely amazing! We had 3 guides in our group of 5 climbers. The guides were all friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend using Giai Xtreme!Written 29 April 2024

It is brutal. And high angles. My quads and calves were constantly cramping up .. Once your at the actual climbing and repelling it’s great and the photo ops are even betterWritten 29 April 2024

This tour was the best! It was a full day (about 10 hours) of jaw-dropping views, spectacular scenery, and extreme adventure! My friends and I stayed in the tipis and woke up in the morning to a warm breakfast of coffee and pancakes. The day was followed by a lot of exercises; walking, hiking, 2 repels, many natural slides, and cliff jumping into crystal clear waters! The guides were very professional, always with a smile, and made me feel reassured and safe. The next day you will be sore but it is SOO worth it! I will definitely be repeating this excursion in the future!

So, this was one of the beet hikes I've ever done--ever! From the first step to the last I enjoyed every bit of it....you will have many thrills from the two repels, and the dozens of jumps and slides. Omar was my guide and he was fantastic! Omar knows exactly where to step, where to brace yourself; I felt very confident and safe following him through this brilliant canyon. The hike takes some good physical conditioning, but you won't regret it! I will certainly want to do this again some day!

We were in town for a concert and decided to book this looking for a little adventure and this definitely delivered. This journey takes you into the canyons of the local area where you’ll find stunning views of the surrounding valleys and waterfalls around every corner. From repelling down cliff sides to jumping into streams it was definitely challenging at times, but we left feeling a little more confident and proud of what we accomplished. Shout out to our guides Alex, Lily, and Omar who did a great job making the trip as safe as possible while keeping our spirits up, you can tell they love what they do.

This experience was great! If you're in shape and you like hikes this is the one for you.
Gaia Xtremes team were very professional, friendly, and confident in this tour. They made sure to tell us everything we were about to do and how best to do it.
Pro tip, that big backpack you want to bring, you don't need. They provide a helmet, harness, life jacket, and wet suit. Our hike finished at 4:45pm after starting at around 6 or 7am. If you're acclimated for endurance you'll just need a bottle of water and 2 protein bars.
Gopros you can rent from them. A big camera leave at home. They take pictures for you. Good shoes are a must! There are many slippery rocks. You want some rubber grip. Not slippery running shoes.
The guides are very helpful. Most are bilingual and are fully capable of assisting in any questions before the tour and during. Cedrick was my point of contact and he did a fantastic job settling any doubts. They won't let you fail.
Definitely doing this every time I fly back to Monterrey!

Extreme is a powerful word in this excursion! No one could be prepared for the beauty and endurance needed to accomplish this activity! Days later 2 50 year old Americans, nursing our knees could not be happier about our accomplishment and memories shared for a long time to come! We understood very little Spanish, and yet our guides were very accommodating, and just awesome!
Several things we would do different learn Spanish, bring a waterproof, backpack, socks, and water shoes with good grip, Tupperware to hold sandwich’s, two water bottles to drink and refill with spring water along the way.
I wore a long sleeve UV shirt and 3/4 length workout Lycra spandex, perfect combination!
This was an amazing trip, and would definitely do it again!

The guides are amazing and make the whole experience a lot more fun. The scenery is breath taking. Please make sure that you know exactly what you’re walking into, several people were not sure of what it entails ( the made it hard on themselves). The only thing I would add on their part would be a rehydration station close to the end, because everyone is always out of water and drained.
If you’re in ok shape and like adrenaline this is a must do!

We’ve already done canyoning in a different countries and had some expectations but matacanes exceeded all our expectations. The tour was long but very nice and we’ve experienced so much. There was jumping, sliding down, rappel and even floating through a cave. It was just an experience i’d tell everyone to experience. Our guide was very competent and a lot of fun. I never had the feeling that I need to be scared.
Huge recommendation!

My guides were Alex and Omar, amazing guides. They know the canyon un and down and give you guidance, encouragement and motivation from beginning to end. The canyon is breathtaking.
Gaia extreme does need to update their harnesses and wetsuits. They did not have my size and the water is very cold, at least at the beginning. Otherwise, I’m definitely doing it again and bringing my daughter with me.

All in all, we had an incredible time and do not regret spending the day with Gaia Xtreme and their crew! The scenery, waterfalls and caves are awesome.
Cedrick, Lili, Carlos, Julio and Pablo were honestly such attentive and amazing tour guides and hosts.
There was a small language barrier during the booking process as to what you can and cannot, should and should not bring... however, I am visiting this country and they made me feel very welcome even though my spanish is not fluent.
If you like adventure, the beauty is well worth it!!!
