We had Juan Carlos to ourselves for this tour, which meant we could take it at our own pace. JC is very knowledgeable and gave us the context of every site and building according to the era of history. We took the 4pm slot, which meant we saw the sunset- but we toured the whole of the inside of the city walls. The tour does not include the forts- which we did just beforehand, which made it a tiring afternoon.

Juan Carlo was a pleasure to have as a tour guide walking through Old San Juan. He was knowledgeable of the history and was attentive and accommodating to my group. He even provided us with water bottles and his own artwork, which he had much talent with. We definitely recommend him if you're looking to have an immersive experience while exploring a beautiful old city.

Juan Carlos was a great tour guide. He was very knowledgeable about Puerto Rican history which greatly added to our tour. He was always very conscientious of everyone's pace making sure to people got a rest when needed. The water he provided everyone was greatly appreciated on such a hot day. He made sure people had all the time they needed to take pictures of the beautiful city. I highly recommend him to people wanting to get a great introduction to Old San Juan.

Juan Carlos wants you to love San Juan as much as he does! He is a fun, enthusiastic, intelligent tour guide. His enthusiasm is evident (ask him about his goosebumps!) He weaves Taino, Spanish, and American history through the tour, and we enjoyed it all. He can also recommend restaurants and help you with anything else you need on the island.

I highly recommend the walking tour of old San Juan with Juan Carlos! The tour started out with Juan bringing us waters and souvenirs of his own art. He then gave my boyfriend and I a private, 2-hour tour that took us all around the most historical parts of the city. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of old San Juan and brought a lot of humor as well. Juan was also very accommodating; he specifically brought us to the shady parts along the tour and would check in to see if we needed breaks/drinks,etc. Finally, we got so many recommendations on where to eat, drink, etc. Please go and start your trip with JC, it was a fabulous way to explore the city!

JC was very energetic and enthusiastic about sharing the history of Old San Juan! We enjoyed our time walking around the sites of the city. He continually made sure the group was together and safe (which I’m sure was like herding cats at times). But he was well balanced with encouraging pictures while keeping us on time!

What an amazing experience. You get to learn about old San Juan from a knowledgeable tour guide. Juan Carlos “JC” had the tour mapped out perfect. He did it in English and Spanish because one person in our group didn’t speak English. He made sure the tour was detailed in both languages. This tour is wheelchair accessible. My mother uses a wheelchair and was able to enjoy the tour. The city of old San Juan is all hills but JC made sure we took breaks and he helped us with wheeling her around while giving his tour. Highly recommend this tour for a quick history lesson of the importance and significance of San Juan and it’s architecture.

Juan Carlos did an excellent job of tracing the history of Old San Juan! It was clearly evident that he loves history. The streets were filled with a festive vibe and there were so many interesting facts about every part of the city. We did a lot in those 2 hours - witnessed a marriage proposal on the esplanade of El Morro, crashed a wedding party coming out of the Iglesia de San Jose, danced in the streets with a local vendor, enjoyed some passion fruit by the San Juan Museum, and saw the most beautiful rainbow. It was a magical tour! Even Juan Carlos commented that our group was so enjoyable! We recommend this tour to anyone looking to learn more about the history of Old San Juan!

We did the morning tour and it was the perfect way to get to know Old San Juan, its eclectic neighborhoods, and historic background before wandering the city on our own. Juan Carlos (our guide) clearly had a passion for the city and was well known by the locals who let us get a more personal look. On top of that he gave us a ton of recommendations for where to visit and eat in Old San Juan as well as near where we were staying (an hour away). 5 star experience!

JC was great. He presented the old city from 1521 to present with great attention to detail. He gave us some good restaurant recommendations. Also, he navigated us through the shadows to avoid the heat, which is a nice touch!

What all are you seeing on this tour? Itinerary just says old San Juan. Is the fortress part of that? The church etc?

Is there a particular place in Plaza Colin that the group is meeting? Also, is there a specific place in the area for an Uber drop off?
Written 6 June 2022
We met at the bottom of the steps by the waterfall but I'm not sure if that's where they meet every time. There is a popular Uber drop off point near the cab stand on Covadonga, across from First Bank. After that, you just walk up the steps, cross the street an continue up the street that goes uphill to get to the Plaza Colin.

My cruise arrives at the port at 4:30 PM. Is there a chance to take 4:00 PM’s tour?
Written 15 May 2022
Hi, It might have been between 2 - 3 miles over a 2 hour period. I walk a lot, generally, so it was something I didn't really attend to.

Would this tour be appropriate for my children? Ages 8 and 14?
Written 21 January 2022
My boys came with us, ages 8 & 12. They got tired towards the end but they enjoyed seeing the views and learned a bit about history. We however had to keep reminding them to stop complaining maybe last 30 minutes of the tour.
