Paulette gave a wonderful tour for our small group of 7. She incorporated Barbados history with the (lots of) eating stops, so be sure to come hungry, even very hungry! Two stops were sit down where we were in an outdoor or semi-outdoor space separated from other diners. At the other stops we nibbled on goodies that she collected and brought to us on the street. Everything was individually packed, so we felt very safe eating it. It was all delicious, and from places off the beaten path, that we would not likely have found ourselves. If you like exploring and sampling the food from different cultures, and eating, I highly recommend this tour.

I’ve been living in Barbados for over a year now but never get the chance to really explore Bridgetown (too hot, too traffic, too much people). Good thing I found this tour and made me appreciate the town more (with a lot of historical info from my tour guide). When I arrived at the meeting place, Paulette was already there and told me that there will be just two joiners for this tour (un)luckily the other person forgot about the tour so I was left alone on the tour with Paulette, which makes it like a private tour yey! She started by sharing histories about Barbados and what the broken trident means on their flag (which I have a broken trident tattoo btw). Then we went on the food tour around Bridgetown. She brought me to this hole in the wall restaurant to start my first meal, which was a huge portion of pork with pickled cucumber and boiled cassava (the portions were huge because it was supposed to be for two persons originally). The place has great view on the second floor. We then walked around to get some legendary fish cakes (which is better served with pepper sauce). Walked again to the insides of Bridgetown to see what the local market looks like, tried some sorrel juice and ripe mango (at this time I no longer able to finish the food she’s giving me so I just put them all in a bag to enjoy when I get home). We then walked towards Crumbs bakery to try some local baked goods (i forgot the name of the one she had me try but it’s really good to be partnered with hot coffee or tea). Then went to a restaurant inside a mall to try some Corn Cou-cou and Paulette even asked the lady to put some gravy on it. The last part of the tour is, yes dessert! We went to Agape to try some ice cream and I chose rum and raisins! This is a really great tour if you want to blend in to the local market and try local food! Thank you Paulette for showing me around Bridgetown! 👍👍👍

We got to visit and gear about Barbados' historical influences in its staple foods - from Scotland, Ireland, west Africa and the indigenous people - this was truly insightful and fascinating.

Marc fromTalia Taxis (do friendly and warm) picked me up from my hotel and dropped me off at the starting point of the tour in Bridgetown and from the very start, we learned so much about the history of the city.

We walked into the main bustling commercial hub, stopping and eating taster style meals from authentic, local, long established eateries.

My faves were the coo-coo, meat rolls, the fish cakes and organically blended sorrell drink from Lion's stall!

Janelle was very knowledgeable and always on hand to answer any questions.

The tour ended on a high at the chocolate factory, where we all had a few scoops of the delicious ice cream which was made on site.

I would highly recommend the tour to anyone who would like to know more about Barbados' history and food culture. This is a great way to dip in.

We vacationed on Barbados for our anniversary and we’re looking for a unique food experience. After seeing other posts and reviews, we decided on the LickRish Bajan food tour. When booking, we did include transportation. Our driver was prompt and provided great information on the island. Once we arrived at the starting location, Janelle our AMAZING tour guide, and started the tour with a brief history of the island and the food. As we progressed to each stop, it was easy to see the great relationships she has with the restaurants and vendors. We loved being able to taste the local food and walk through the city. This tour was such a great addition to our trip and we would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Barbados.

Our guide, Paulette was very nice and knows about the history of Barbados.
Before booking this I read the reviews and they looked very impressive. However, both myself and my husband disagree with them. We have done walking food tours in other countries and this is not a patch on them.
The first place we went to was Tim's, a small cafe like place on the first floor with a small balcony overlooking the main street, that was OK. We had some pork, potatoes and pickled cucumber with a small bottle of water.
Then on to a street food van for some tasteless fishcakes with a chilli sauce, no water to wash them down.
Next up was a bakery for a meet slice and cake, both pretty tasteless and very stoggy, we both put them in the bin.
Then into the local market and had a couple of slices of mango and a small cup of Tamerin juice., the mango was delicious.
Then the worse bit - a very small shopping arcade, we sat around a fountain that wasn't working and has a takeaway box of absolutely disgusting food with a cup of water which I assume was from the tap, again both went in the bin.
Lastly was a chocolate and ice cream place, 5 stars for the ice cream there.
All in all I am very sorry but it really did not do it for us and I would not recommend it and I think it was poor value for the money paid.

Hi Dalefevans, I am saddened to hear of your experience. Our tour takes guests to local Barbadian food establishments and shares those items which are beloved by locals. I am sorry that this was not well received. Thank you, however, for taking the time to tour with us, and I hope that the remainder of your holiday was more enjoyable. Andrew

Highly recommend this tour!!
We had a lovely lady called Claudette on this tour. She was amazing!!! Her knowledge of Bajan history was endless. She gave an extremely insightful tour and she was captivating with the passion and charm she expressed on the islands history. She guided us through roads and streets we would have never gone down, to little eateries holiday makers would never find. She bestowed on us dishes that were bursting with flavour and were a delight for the senses. She said there was no greater compliment than a clear plate. Every plate was clean and not a scap was left! We had pork, fishcakes, macaroni pie, pastries, fruit, juices and ice cream. We left with full stomachs, heads full of knowledge and late for our ride as we couldn't tear ourselves away!!!
This was our favourite day out so far. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Lickrish food tour, and especially our lovely Claudette!!

I think this tour would be good for someone new in town or only here for a short time, but I was disappointed. I had already tried better versions of most of the foods elsewhere (notable exception of the fish cakes).

Our guide Janelle was very knowledgeable and I enjoyed the beginning talk about the influences on Bajan foods. Unfortunately, and totally not her fault, once we were on the road with background noise, masks, and a large group I really didn't hear much else. If they do it, it might be worth booking a private tour for your small group.

For me the tour was overpriced at $75 US (being mostly snacks and not even including a rum punch) and about an hour too long, primarily because of the first stop at Tim's. Which, as others have commented, took ages because Janelle had to prep and serve all the food herself. And indeed it was cold by the time we got it.

All in all, for me it was just okay and not worth the price as it is.

What a wonderful time we had with our guide, Paulette. She was incredibly knowledgeable as she explained the history, culture and much more about Barbados as we explored the city of Bridgetown. The itinerary was carefully thought through and well balanced. She introduces you to where the locals eats and shops. The food is delicious and you won’t be hungry when you’re finished. So many hidden gems that the everyday tourist would miss. We will definitely be coming back to eat at these establishments. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, lots of walking!

Every part of Paulette’s walking tour was a joy for our bellies and nurturing for our minds. Paulette delivered much fun and interesting geographical , historical, and social information about Barbados. To understand the people of a place you need to know what they eat and Paulette does this very well of Bajans. Our time with her sped by too quickly. My advice for those who participate in this special tour is to NOT EAT BREAKFAST! Not even a slice of toast for Paulette will make sure you are well fed. Those of you who have food limitations Paulette will take care of you very well. She made sure well in advance that my plate of food was safe for my palette and stomach. Paulette’s tour is a MUST for all travelers. Enjoy everyone!

Fantastic learning experience! Food tastings were wonderful, and our guide Paulette was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, personable, and fun to be with. The tour gives a "taste"of the real Barbados--food, history, and culture. Be aware, however, that two flights of restaurant stairs and the fast pace in the mid-day sun may be challenging for older folks and people who are out of shape. The walking distance is reasonable, with stops for restaurant tasting plates (2), fish cakes (superb), bakery treats (don't skip the meat rolls!), market samples, and vegan ice cream.
