Orlando - Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum)
International
I am beyond outraged and deeply frustrated with the appalling services provided by Etihad Airways during my family's recent journey from Thiruvananthapuram (TRV) to Orlando (MCO) and back. My wife and two daughters experienced a series of catastrophic failures that have left us with nothing but a deep sense of betrayal and anger towards this airline. Their troubles began on June 10, 2024, with Etihad Airways Flight No. EY 1363 from Thiruvananthapuram to Abu Dhabi, operated by Air Arabia. The flight was delayed by over two hours, causing them to miss their connecting Etihad Airways Flight No. EY 3 to New York. This delay forced them to endure a gruelling 16-hour wait at Abu Dhabi airport without any accommodation. Despite pleading for a hotel stay, they were callously informed that it was Air Arabia's fault and that only lounge access was available. Navigating the vast airport to find the lounge, which lacked any proper resting facilities, meant my family had to sit for hours in discomfort. This was not just inconvenient—it was a nightmarish experience. They eventually reached New York on Etihad Flight No. EY 1 and boarded JetBlue Flight No. B6 283 to Orlando, arriving in the evening of June 11, 2024—an entire day late. The return journey on July 4, 2024, was no less disastrous. They flew JetBlue Flight No. B6 1184 from MCO to JFK, then Etihad Airways Flight No. EY 2 from JFK to AUH, and finally Etihad Airways Flight No. EY 262 from AUH to TRV. Upon arriving in Thiruvananthapuram on July 5, 2024, only two of their three checked-in bags were delivered. Despite assurances from JetBlue and Etihad staff at JFK that their bags would be transferred and arrive at the final destination, their bag went missing. They filed a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) at Thiruvananthapuram airport with the help of Etihad staff, who filled out the form, collected a copy of the baggage ID, and provided an apology letter with a contact number. However, their initial email reporting the issue was ignored, and calls to the provided number were met with empty promises of callbacks that never came. On the sixth day, we were shockingly told that the bag was in Abu Dhabi. On the seventh day, a staff member informed us that the bag was still in New York. After expressing my outrage, they suddenly “found” the bag in Thiruvananthapuram, where it had apparently arrived that evening. Despite being promised that the bag would be delivered to my address, I was told I had to travel two hours to collect it myself. To make matters worse, we were deceitfully told that the bag could not be delivered because a formal complaint had not been raised with Etihad. We were informed that the PIR was merely a formality and not registered since it was JetBlue's fault and not Etihad's—a blatant lie. The Etihad staff who assisted my family with the PIR never mentioned that it was just a formality. The dishonesty and evasiveness were infuriating. When I demanded a written statement confirming that Etihad was not responsible for the lost bag and that it was JetBlue's fault, I was outright denied. The staff at TRV refused to provide any written confirmation and suggested we take up the matter with JetBlue. This disgraceful buck-passing and lack of accountability is beyond unacceptable. This entire ordeal with Etihad Airways has been nothing short of a nightmare. The mishandling of our baggage, the consistent lack of communication, and the blatant dishonesty displayed by their staff are absolutely disgraceful. As someone who has traveled extensively, I have never encountered such abysmal service from any other airline. We will NEVER fly with Etihad again and strongly urge others to avoid this airline at all costs to prevent experiencing a similarly horrific ordeal. I travelled in October 2023 and submitted a claim for our damaged checked-in case. We were told at the airport that the customer support would advise us later if we can buy a new one because our case looked to not be repairable. We had another trip and couldn't wait so we had to buy a new one. After three months and agreeing that the damage was not repairable, the offer from Etihad was only USD$50 and, as I couldn't find the receipt for the damaged case, they wouldn't reimburse the cost for the new case. In the end, I did manage to find the receipt for the damaged case and sent it to them. In their new offer, 40% was depreciated based on deducting value of 10% per complete year, which didn't come close to covering the cost of the new case. Actually, we found this policy is written in their T&Cs, in article 15, no matter which cabin class you booked. I was flying business.

Manchester - Abu Dhabi
International
My wife and I were visiting friends and family in the UK, so booked return flights from Dammam to Manchester via Abu Dhabi. We took business class outbound due to an offer and economy on return. Business class was ok with a lot of interruptions for a night flight but the return was pretty awful. In particular, the Manchester to Abu Dhabi flight on the 11th July. On arrival at the airport we were 1kg overweight for the hold luggage and we're told we have to pay £100 extra! We took items out of the hold luggage and put in the hand luggage to compensate. At security, those items were then lost due to compliance so a bad start. I had also bid on seats for an upgrade that I was not notified on before the flight and that led to my wife and I sitting separately on the flight - my wife next to a screaming baby. Sitting where I was, I could see others on the same flight having arguments with cabin crew on seating and bassinets etc. A bit of a shambles. Not so much the cabin crew but the team at the airport, process and policies being used. I live and work in the middle east and have been on the other carriers. Etihad are the worst. I would say Qatar and Oman are probably the better options.

This airline cancelled my flight from Jakarta to Abu Dhabi, and this caused me a lot of stress and hassle, due to "technical reasons". I still have not forgiven them.
