Washington DC - Cartagena
International
Since we checked in at Dulles airport, a number of staff members had discriminated against us today. On July 10, at 2:36 am, my sister, our friend , and I were scheduled to catch a Copa Airlines flight. We were informed at the gate that a bird had flown through the glass, causing a two-hour delay in our trip. It was a deception to say that we would begin boarding at 5:20 a.m.Boarding didn't begin until 6:00 am. We were repeatedly promised that the boarding process would begin, but later on, we were informed that the captain needed to ensure the jet was safe before allowing us to board. We were all really dissatisfied with the cruel treatment we received from your employees at IAD. We waited for a long time without being offered food or blankets. We were forced to spend the night on the airport seats. even though it was bitterly chilly. Our seats that we paid for were nonexistent(seat 11). There were about 6 people that had the same seat number as us. We were separated through the plane .Our connecting flight schedule was adjusted as a result of our flight being delayed at IAD. We arrived in Cartagena, Colombia, at 2:08 pm, instead of the scheduled 8:35 am. We proceeded through immigration as soon as we arrived at the airport , we got through immigration and then went to pick up our checked bags. When we arrived, we discovered that our bags were missing. Next to us, a copa agent informed us that our luggage were missing. She didn't speak much English. Andrea Ariza was her name. Although she could speak a tiny amount of English, she claimed to be a supervisor. We informed her that our baggage shouldn't have been in Panama as we had a connecting flight from Panama and our planes had been delayed, therefore our bags should have been in Cartagena already. After we requested her for an English translator, she urged my sister to follow her, and I did as well with our friend. We saw her conversing with an immigration officer and another copa. She was with the immigration officer, a man with whom we never spoke to . After telling them we didn't speak Spanish, we were instructed to follow an immigration officer who continued chatting to us in Spanish. We followed her to immigration. We asked repeatedly where we were being led, but no one answered as she motioned for us to follow her with her hands. We were sent into a room thinking we were going to get an English translator .They showed us the room and locked it when we got inside. We questioned why we were being locked in a room as we were all perplexed. We were not informed. Upon examining the space, I discovered that we were placed in a dentation office alongside individuals who had truly committed crimes. Nobody has still given us an explanation for our presence in the room. When a woman who can speak English finally appears, she informs us that we are being returned to our original location, which is Cartega, which is absurd. She told us that we were being sent back to America, and although she is unsure of the circumstances, we are essentially prohibited from entering the country ever again. When the doors were opened, Andrea Ariza noted in her notes that we had been impolite to her and had reported us to immigration. This baffled me as I didn't even talk to her—all I discussed with her was the color of our luggage, which was her question. Since no one had yet to explain what had occurred to us, we felt incredibly frightened, helpless, and afraid. We have experienced cruel treatment from Copa Airlines staff ever since we boarded this airplane. After we three irate girls explained a Copa agent why our baggage ought to have been in cartegena already, the agent lied to immigration and told them what she had said (Except for the woman who informed us that we were being sent back home, no one in Columbia seemed to be interested in hearing our side of the story) .We called Copa customer service more than 10 times no one could help us . We were told we couldn't enter the country. This makes no sense to me because we did nothing wrong. I took time off work to go on this vacation. Our resort, cars, and maintenance for this holiday were all squandered due to an inconvenience and miscommunication on their copa agent's behalf. We have reported the incident to both the FAA and the Department of State. Their workers ( about 5-6) people took pictures of our passports and were taking videos of us and sending it to each other on WhatsApp. Upon arrival my bags are not in America my bag is In Cartagena according to one of the copa agents in America . This inhumane act should never have happened. This was our first and last time flying with the airline . Copa needs to get trained costumer service agents because everyone can tell a difference between a frustrated client and a rude client . I need a refund for my entire trip ( hotel and other expenses included).

Los Angeles - Panama City

I was traveling to Panama City (PTY) and St Maarten (SXM) on June 22, 2024. According to our boarding passes, the gate was scheduled to close at 12 pm. However, it closed unexpectedly at 11:40 am, preventing us from boarding. The boarding pass clearly stated the gate closure time as 12 pm, not 11:40 am. Consequently, we contacted COPA Airlines immediately, who charged us $300 ($100 per passenger) as a penalty and $807 ($269 per ticket for fare differences) to rebook us on another flight, CM-0362 (scheduled for 10:02 pm) instead of our original CM402 flight at 12 pm. This resulted in a 10-hour wait at the airport and additional expenses totaling more than $1007 for the same trip. Furthermore, we forfeited our overnight stay in Panama City and our hotel reservation there. When we spoke to Supervisor Adam at COPA Airlines in LAX, he acknowledged that none of these charges should have been applied and advised us to dispute them. We have already initiated a dispute with our credit card company. Therefore, we request a refund of $1007 to our credit card, as the early closure of the gate was not our fault but rather a mistake made by COPA Airlines agents. According to our boarding pass, the gate was scheduled to close at 12 pm. We passed through TSA and made our way to the gate by 11:40 am. However, upon arrival, we discovered that the gate had already been closed. Despite their own official boarding pass indicating the gate closure time as noon, they denied us boarding and imposed more than $1007 charge for an evening flight. This action directly contradicts their own printed guidelines, which is illegal. When we contacted COPA Airlines and spoke with Supervisor Adam, he acknowledged that the charge was unjustified and advised us to request a refund. However, the airline has refused to provide any reimbursement. This behavior is entirely unethical. they do not even listen to their own supervisor."

I traveled first class many times in the other major airlines so I have an idea of how first class services supposed to be. I was so disappointed with Copa first class services. The services was like sitting in economy class. The planes was an old 737 Boeing like from the 1990 it was not equipped with Wi-Fi nor charging ports. The flight attendants were just ok. The food was terrible. I felt like if I was on a bellow average airline sitting in regular class. I give Copa airline business class 1 out of 5 stars. Please improve your business class experience. Thank you.

Raleigh - Panama City
International
Raleigh Durham International Airport (RDU) has recently expanded its direct international flights. In June 2024 COPA Airlines started direct flights to Panama City. My wife and I decided to try COPA's service for the long 4th of July weekend. We booked standard economy tickets, costing just under $600 each. COPA allows standard economy ticket holders to bid on business class seats. I bid $165 per ticket and successfully upgraded for the flight to Panama City. The seats were comfortable, with decent recline and a pop-out footrest. The flight departed on time, and dinner was served around 6 PM. The food was the weakest part of the experience, with the chicken and rice and pasta dishes being unimpressive. However, the spicy nut mix and dinner roll were enjoyable. We arrived in Panama a few minutes early. Our bags were sent to Terminal 2, requiring a 15-minute walk. Immigration was quick, and we retrieved our luggage promptly. For the return trip, we did not win the bid for business class and experienced regular economy. The seats were narrow but comfortable, with USB ports and seat back entertainment. The COPA app worked well for check-in, and the bag drop queue was efficient. Boarding at PTY included an additional security screening at the gate. The return meal of fruit and a grilled ham and cheese sandwich was tasty. We arrived early in Raleigh but faced delays at the gate and long waits at immigration. Despite these minor issues, we found the overall experience with COPA Airlines to be good. The flight was convenient, the prices reasonable, and the service satisfactory. We would consider flying with COPA again.
