Have you tried The Solutions Room on www.chaletsdirect.com? You post up what you're looking for and the private chalet owners provide solutions. I've found a few places like that on it. Moreso chalets than hotels but not hostels either. ... more

Part of your problem might be that you are trying to go midweek to midweek. Many French hotels/chalets book Saturday to Saturday. The week 24th December to 31st December is a high season week so availabilty might be harder. ... more
