Golf, skiing, gaming, shows, and entertainment are perhaps what Nevada is most known for. Though hiking, biking, boating, fishing, swimming, beaches, and museums of all sorts can be part of the mix. Behind the glitz and flashing neon lights at night, Nevada has a lot of regular church-going working people. So, do consider taking along the whole family. Nevada has something for everyone. Good deals abound on vacation rental condos, apartments and homes in the south near Las Vegas and Henderson. And in the north around Reno, Lake Tahoe, Stateline, Zephyr Cove, and Incline Village.
A Las Vegas vacation rental is about more than saving money. A vacation rental home or condo is more personable, private, and relaxing than elbowing past the Las Vegas hotel casino and motel hordes. Take a break from the golf, casinos, and conventions. Watch the sunset colors glow and change on the red-orange sandstone at Valley of Fire State Park, 50 miles northwest of Las Vegas near Mesquite and the Utah border. Hike with the family at Red Rock Canyon, 15 miles west of Las Vegas on the way to Pahrump. Enjoy boating, beaches, swimming, and fishing at Lake Mead National Recreation Area, 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas in the direction of Laughlin.
Relax along the beach or go boating and water skiing at Lake Tahoe from Zephyr Cove. Hike and bike the mountain trails from your Incline Village or Lake Tahoe vacation rental. When the snows come, a Stateline or South Lake Tahoe vacation rental puts you near California’s Sierra-at-Tahoe, Heavenly, and Kirkwood ski areas. It will be more like your own private condo or home than a hotel or motel room when you make an Incline Village vacation rental your base for skiing Mt. Rose or Diamond Peak. Glenbrook and Crystal Cove are also nearby. The old Comstock Lode mining town of Virginia City is near Carson City and Reno/Sparks, and not far from Gardnerville.
Elko and nearby Lamoille in northeastern Nevada near the Ruby Mountains bring you near wilderness frequented by Basque shepherds and Basque food served family style. The National Basque Festival and running of the bulls is in July. January is the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. Plus there is fishing, golf, a summer motorcycle rumble, and September balloon festival. Besides regular air service, Amtrak’s California Zephyr runs from San Francisco through Reno and Elko on its way to Salt Lake City, Denver, Omaha, and Chicago. On I-80 west of Elko is the gold mining town of Battle Mountain and Winnemucca. Heading south from Elko towards Ely is Great Basin National Park.
