Cottage
Country Cottage is a two bedroom cottage for up to 4 people. It is a single storey building with an outside patio area and tables facing the adjacent paddock. The front door leads into a living area and a separate kitchen with combined dining area. The first bedroom is a double and the second, a twin. The living room has a sofa bed. A shower is located over the bath. There is a ramp for wheelchair access and a high level toilet with back-rest and assist bar which makes this cottage suitable for people with mobility problems. Country Cottage is our most popular cottage for couples and young families as it is right next to the fields and, if lucky, you will see the deer and other wildlife that visit us.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Would completely recommend these cottages.A+
This is the second time i’ve stayed here and it was amazing as usual. The cottage was very clean & well kept with everything we needed for our stay. I would recommend this as a very family friendly place as there is a small playground, sheep, goats & pigs and it is very secure but equally for a couples stay as we did. A+

Cosy & cute
The location was great, close to Whitby yet remote and quiet. The house was cosy and had everything we needed for a short stay. The kids and dog loved it also.

Disappointing
My partner and I stayed for two nights. The property was not very clean with plenty of dust and cobwebs and some cutlery and crockery put back without being washed properly. The lounge was cosy but the bathroom was very basic and in need of updating. The kitchen is basic, the cooker very old and the fridge is small (not enough room to stand a milk container upright!). A bulb was missing from a wall light in the lounge and the shower bracket was loose making it difficult to use the shower. The cottage felt neglected and that the owners were happy to take the rental fee without much concern for the cleanliness of the property.

"Country Cottage"
This is the name of the spacious 2 bedroom cottage (2 singles & 1 double) . Good tv reception n free wifi. All the equipment you would expect. Comfortable beds, pillows & bedding/towels. Parking os cottage. Cons 1 - weak longlife bulbs costing 4 times more than 1 x 7w LED giving 100w lighting foe each bulb. 2 - a prewar cooker (1st world war) Overall, 9/10 for a brilliant comfortable stay. Bonus - Aldi, Sainsburys, B&M, Farmfoods, all 2 mins away.

Great location but needs a good clean
The cottage is in a lovely location with the fields and the Cinder Track at the bottom, which is a great easy walk in to Whitby or a longer walk towards Robin Hoods Bay. We raised a concern re the TV and we were unable to get a signal as the local mast had been on fire a week earlier, when Laurie came to the cottage he said it probably just needed re tuning as there’s did in the main house, if he knew that why had he not do that in the accommodation in readiness for guests? Whilst he was there we highlighted that the cottage wasn’t very clean and pointed out some keys points for cleaning, due to my asthma I am very susceptible to dust and it was very dusty accommodation, no wonder the bathroom is damp as the fan above the bath/shower was full of dust. There were several large cobwebs around the property which made me uncomfortable. My husband washed the glass light shade near the TV on the wall and I highlighted in an email my concerns to Laurie and stated that my husband had cleaned it and that is the level of cleanliness it should be. The whole cottage is very dated and could do with some renovation, we know that the cottage is by the water treatment centre so every now and again there was a horrible smell but that’s not the fault of the property owner. We would also like to highlight that the kitchen facilities wasn’t up to a reasonable standard, as an example the fridge had missing parts and not clean, kettle and toaster were mismatched and the toaster didn’t work correctly and there was water in the kettle upon arriving from the previous user, when ever that had been. The splash back behind the cooker was disgusting , this had not been cleaned in forever, very greasy and there was also chipped crockery which needs replacing. There is no where to hang wet towels as there was only one towel rail for a 4 bed cottage and we really didn’t want to hang them over the radiators as they were sooooooo dusty and the towels had holes in them. Please just spend a bit of money on the property and you would get repeat custom as its in a great location. Laurie was great I. Sorting the problem that we raised whilst there.

Beautiful clean accommodation
Country cottage is a gorgeous cottage. Went with a family of 4. Well equipped. New beds, carpets and sofas just spot on. And for the price. You can't complain. Amazing!! Dog friendly too and owners are lovely. Will definitely be back. Thankyou

In desperate need of a deep clean
It's a shame that this holiday cottage didn't live up to our expectations, as they are perfectly situated - an Aldi and a Sainsbury's are a 5 minutes walk away, and The Cinder Track runs down the back of the property, providing a beautiful walk into Whitby. My main concern was the cleanliness of the property, especially when taking into consideration covid regulations - the entire property was covered in dust and dusty cobwebs, along with stains/food on the walls. The curtains also have stains on them. The living room table is full of crumbs and debris in the grooves, the cabinets are dirty and I had to scrub the bath before use as it has soap scum marks in it. None of the doors fit or close properly and the wardrobe in the double bedroom is fit for the skip. The rug in the living room was full of food debris on our arrival. The microwave works well and was very clean, however the toaster was awful and the fridge didn't seem to cope very well - it was turned up to the maximum and still didn't seem to keep things very cool. Definitely wouldn't be able to buy food for a few days. Bath wasn't boxed off at the end exposing an area that was full of plaster/paintwork that has chipped off the wall, and the toilet developed a leak during our stay. Bedding appeared clean but well worn. Beds themselves were comfy and we slept well. Overall, the cottage has a lot of potential to be amazing, it just needs a damn good clean from top to bottom, a proper paint job and completely new furniture!

Just what we wanted for 1 night
Arrived and got to our cottage, called the owners and they brought over a cot and highchair very quickly. The cottage we had was at the end and felt private. My 1 year old loved the field next to the cottage to run around in! The place was clean and tidy and had all the required equipment in the kitchen etc. As it was Sunday when we arrived, we drove into Whitby however there us a bus stop at the end of the lane on the main road. (Just fewer buses on Sunday). There is a playground which the kids were using and enjoyed. No issues and good value for money.

Could be 4 stars
The cottage is very well situated for visiting Whitby and is close to two big supermarkets. We found it well equipped and on the whole very clean apart from the glass wear which was dirty. I did raise my complaint with the owner and she gave her apologies. Wouldn't return due to the foul smell of the sewerage works next door but the owner has said the water company are looking at ways to resolve the smell. If this was sorted it would be a lovely place to sit out in an evening with all the peacocks wandering round.

Place was lovely and clean, lovely walks around, walking distance from shops. Outside is a bit smelly at times.
