The current temple halls were constructed in 1990 following the traditional Tang style architecture, however the nunnery has been at this location since the 1930s.

The Chi Lin Nunnery is just seconds away from the MTR station at Diamond Hill on the Kwun Tong line. Outside you should see the signs to follow.  There is no entrance fee. The nunnery is adjacent to the Nan Lian Garden, which was created with joint resources from the nunnery and the Hong Kong government.  The gardens are technically their own site and have their own listing on TripAdvisor.

The Tang style Chinese architecture is unusual in Hong Kong, and special note should be made that the halls were built without metal nails.  The Buddhist art and peace created by the lotus ponds add to the ambiance for the visitor. The nunnery is a working Buddhist place of worship, so taking pictures or videos of the religious objects is prohibited. Behind the nunnery is a small market.

This visit is a great way to spend some time away from the bustle of the fast pace of Hong Kong.
