The area around Man Mo Temple is an antique shopper's paradise. There are many antique shops on Hollywood Road adjacent to the temple and downhill on Cat Street, Lascar Street and the surrounding alleys. Items vary from classical Tang, Ming and Song dynasty porcelains, scrolls and bronzes to Mao-era figures and souvenirs. However one must be aware that many of the less expensive items and some of the "classical" Chinese antiques are fakes. You will find brass compasses and sextants that are made in India, and even Mao souvenirs that are cranked out in Guangzhou. It is important to know what you are buying and what its fair value is before you go. The Mao collectibles are generally good value and you should bargain on the price.
