Beaujolais is only 30 km from Lyon and they call it the little French Toscana because of its hilly landscape. It's a perfect one day trip destination to escape the city of Lyon and discover an enchanted France. The historic capital of Beaujolais is Beaujeu and the economic one, Villefranche. However, neither of these towns is really worthwhile visiting.

The best way to visit Beaujolais is using a car and visiting several of the charming small hilltop villages.  Even better - you can use a professional guide.  Meet the genuine French vignerons in their family wineries and discover one of the most beautiful areas of vineyards in France.  Kanpai is highly recommended - their guide (and owner) speaks impeccable English, French and Spanish.

Beaujolais is made of 3 differents parts : In the North, you will find the  "Beaujolais Crus" region with famous wines as St Amour, Moulin à Vent, Brouilly, Fleuri, etc. in the middle the Beaujolais village and in the south, the region of the Golden Stones.

This last region is just wonderful with its little villages made in stones like Oingt, Charnay, Châtillon d'Azergues, Theizé, etc. and surrounded by vineyards. If you travel there, you will be able to wine-taste real Beaujolais Nouveau and so other great Gamay wines you will remember for ever. The wine-growers are just so welcoming !!

If you come to Lyon and have time,  you must visit this region and taste some of its wines!!
