Toledo overview

Synagogues, mosques and churches stand together in Toledo's historic quarter, a testament to the medieval Spanish city's diverse history. The four towers of The Alcazar, a fortress built in 1085, dominate the skyline. Surrounded by mountains and the windmill-dotted plains of La Mancha, this UNESCO World Heritage site served as inspiration for El Greco. His paintings are on display in the Tavera Hospital art gallery, the Gothic-style Cathedral of Toledo and the museum that bears his name.
