Sacha Lodge is a lodge that markets itself correctly. what you see on the website is what you get. So, to start with, it is as luxurious and safe as it looked, rooms are spacious and clean, as insect free as it can get in the middle of such wildlife, and has beautiful surroundings. Staff is attentive and helpful. Guides are knowledgable. The whole management is very professional. They know how to run a lodge and organisation is impeccable. The lodge is in the middle of wilderness and has an abundance of turtles, lizards, butterflies.
With all these perfections, one cannot rate the property less than perfect. Having said this, there is a reservation that visitors should be aware of. All the activities are underwhelming. I did a lot of research before choosing Brazil and Peru, and then this lodge in Ecuador. So was not surprised. Two points. Brazil and Peru offer more Amazon experiences. Ecuador more jungle. And then, inside Ecuador, most other lounges are similar, I am sure. But here too, jungle walks, canopy walks, canoe rides do not provide the awe you find in deeper jungle lodges or, say (not to compare but) Africa. If you are not a birdwatcher, chances are that you will be bored during some activities (which you can hardly change - but, yes, they are a bit flexible to help you with that). The only birds we could see were through the telescope. A visit to see parrots means waking up at 5am and sitting on a canoe to watch parrots, through the telescope, and see them small, even so, since they are so had away and approaching them is not permitted. This is not the problem of the lodge and I am sure that other luckier visitors have seen anacondas etc., but except for an abundance of tarantulas, piranhas and monkeys in the lodge, the surroundings offer a perfect "beginners' jungle" but not a deep Amazon experience.
It was our first jungle experience and as such, we enjoyed it thoroughly and the perfection of the lodge helped it, but experienced jungle visitors should think twice.
