Decided to extend our vacation for a few more days while in Ecuador visiting the Galapogos. Read about 4 days and 3 nights in Sacha Lodge and thought it would be the perfect ending, and was it ever.

The website shows pictures and provides details, but what it doesn't have or show is the big picture, coming out of the trees that house caymen and anaconda to cross a lake to the amazing lodge what I can describe as truly amazing! Or the sounds, hearing a howler monkey while eating breakfast, crickets and frogs during the night....fantastic.

From start to finish, the staff of Sacha Lodge are accommodating and friendly. Our naturalist (Faustau) and guide (Donaldo) were a pleasure to be with for excursion, making sure we seen everything to be seen from birds to monkeys to spiders, ants .... the list goes on and on.

It was a very sad day when my trip ended!

Room tip: All individual cabins, all good

We've spent 3 days in Sacha Lodge. All the organisation was more then perfect! Very nice program full with activities. We like that it's adapt to nature. There are a lot of animals in the lodge and just to walk in the area we saw a lot of birds, monkeys and reptiles. And the chef.... fantastic!

Quite a place to come on business but I have to hand it to Fausto and his staff, they took incredible care of our crew accommodating graciously the demands of a film shoot. Getting to Sacha Lodge is a joy. Yes, it's an adventure and that's the beauty. Just go with it and be amazed. The people here are very special. The highlight for me was a swim in the lake. Truly incredible! And the canopy walk was worth the early call time and long walk. The food was superb. Watson, my guide, an absolute gem. How I envied the few folks here that could relax and truly enjoy. That is my goal - to come back with my family so they can experience this remarkable place.

I visited Sacha Lodge for 4 days/3 nights with my wife, mother, and two daughters ages 11 and 13. We didn't really know what to expect, but it exceeded anything we could imagine. They take care of you from the moment you arrive in Quito. The guides and staff are friendly and helpful. The trip to the lodge is an experience by itself. I will never forget canoeing across the lake to the lodge for the first time. The food was stupendous and the individual cabins are very nice, complete with monkeys playing a few feet away. However, it is the guides that make this unforgettable. Our lead guide Jorge, was passionate and knowledgeable. He engaged my daughters and taught them so much. By the end they were expert spotters and wore their binoculars with pride. Our native guide Elias, taught us about a balance with nature and how his people survived in this environment. They event aughts us to paddle the canoe through the narrow jungle channels. We walked on a bridge high above the canopy, watched birds and sloths from a treetop deck, chased monkeys by canoe, walked dense trails, and even did an evening hike where we spotted snakes and other creatures by flashlight. On top of that, we swam with piraña and camen. I would not have imagined my daughters doing that. By the end of the stay we felt like we were leaving home. In fact my daughters asked if we could come again for 4 nights. No argument from me.

Room tip: Traveling in a group of 5 meant that we had our own guide and boat. This was very nice for us as a family.

Sacha Lodge is a lodge that markets itself correctly. what you see on the website is what you get. So, to start with, it is as luxurious and safe as it looked, rooms are spacious and clean, as insect free as it can get in the middle of such wildlife, and has beautiful surroundings. Staff is attentive and helpful. Guides are knowledgable. The whole management is very professional. They know how to run a lodge and organisation is impeccable. The lodge is in the middle of wilderness and has an abundance of turtles, lizards, butterflies.

With all these perfections, one cannot rate the property less than perfect. Having said this, there is a reservation that visitors should be aware of. All the activities are underwhelming. I did a lot of research before choosing Brazil and Peru, and then this lodge in Ecuador. So was not surprised. Two points. Brazil and Peru offer more Amazon experiences. Ecuador more jungle. And then, inside Ecuador, most other lounges are similar, I am sure. But here too, jungle walks, canopy walks, canoe rides do not provide the awe you find in deeper jungle lodges or, say (not to compare but) Africa. If you are not a birdwatcher, chances are that you will be bored during some activities (which you can hardly change - but, yes, they are a bit flexible to help you with that). The only birds we could see were through the telescope. A visit to see parrots means waking up at 5am and sitting on a canoe to watch parrots, through the telescope, and see them small, even so, since they are so had away and approaching them is not permitted. This is not the problem of the lodge and I am sure that other luckier visitors have seen anacondas etc., but except for an abundance of tarantulas, piranhas and monkeys in the lodge, the surroundings offer a perfect "beginners' jungle" but not a deep Amazon experience.

It was our first jungle experience and as such, we enjoyed it thoroughly and the perfection of the lodge helped it, but experienced jungle visitors should think twice.
