We stayed there at the beginning of the month. Both the hotel and service are impeccable. The food is very good but very pricey compared to the beach front. I think though you have to consider the location very closley. There is no problem with walking down the beach once a day but if you want to walk back down in the evening its something of a chore. Mentally the walk twice a day is a bit of a pain in the bum. Having said that we did take a taxi once and it was only three euros so you can walk down and taxi back for little money.

We stayed in Costa Adeje two years ago and throughout the week there were no customers in any of the shops in Plaza Duque. This year it was the same - but worse!!
If you turn right at the shops and walk along the promenade you come to a small number of shops and restaurants ( there is an expensive Italian restaurant overlooking the sea with some shops behind) since this year I had some extra money to spend I took my wife into one of the clothes shop to buy her a treat. Frankly, the two women there laughed at us and were winking at each other. My wife was very upset and we left the shop almost with her in tears. I had to back in the evening and complain to the manageress ( who was very apologetic and clearly embarrassed). It is little wonder that these places have to customers in them ......ever!

Going back to the hotel we did not get an upgrade (I can`t complain, I didn`t pay for one!) but the hotel was almost empty and I think they had blocked off much of the hotel. The room overlooked the road and, since I booked directly with the hotel this was a little disappointing. Both the breakfasts and room cleaning were without fault and the evening buffet was superb but, at 35 euros each without wine, a little expensive. Like all 5* hotels it`s a little expensive to drink in the bar and I dont know why they put up the bar rpices so high. There were only two or three couples in the lounge when we were there. The price of a taxi transfer was about 29 euros each way.

La Plantacion is a great hotel with very good food, service and accomodation. It's only main downside is location - you trade an almost guaranteed sea view from every room with a hike up/ down the hill to the sea-front. However, overall we would definately go again.
On half board the breakfast is great and we always at al la carte in the evening - on the basis the buffet is 35 Euro per head and for that you can easily get a starter/ main and excellent waitress service in the a la carte (and they generally thro in a glass of carva each and a couple of canapes.
Adaja is a nice resort (dont miss the sunsets from the promenade), if it feels a little sparce of 'independant' restaurants on the promenade - it seems most are linked to their hotels (though the one we ate in had good, but pricy, food). Cheaper alternatives are either along the beach one way into Los Americas (pizza, burger, etc) ot the other way to La Caleta (3 Euro by cab from hotel/ 40 min stroll) - go for fish as it is the local port. Good value if not quite the 'finish' of the hotel restaurants.

Overall a nice smallish hotel. Could be better managed and the climb from the beach back to the hotel may be an issue for many.

Positives:

- I loved the design, style and atmosphere of the hotel
- nice views from room, restaurant terrace and pool area
- good room, particularly the bathroom was exceptionally spacious and well equipped
- excellent breakfast, both in terms of selection and quality
- the staff was nice and friendly, particularly at breakfast and reception

Negatives:

- the hotel could be better managed and parts of it are understaffed. There's a large number of small things that aren't right and combined they show that the management isn't doing a great job. For example the pool service in theory exists (for bringing cushions and towels to sunbathers), but in practice there seems to be only one guy doing this for the entire large pool area, and often he's nowhere to be seen so people get their towels and cushions themselves.
- the kids club seems to be geared towards the 8-12 age group, not for smaller kids. While its nice to offer the opportunity to leave the kids to the club so that the hotel's nanny looks after them, we would have preferred just a play area (both outside and inside) where our smaller kids could have played with toys while we looked after them ourselves. Currently, there's hardly any toys in the kids club for 2-7 year olds and there is no outside play area (apart from a couple of toys next to the kids pool). Also, the kids club is locked whenever the hotel's nanny is on lunch break or sent to run some other errand - which seemed to be quite often.
- the location: too far from the ocean. The pedestrian road by the beach is the best area for walking, visiting restaurants etc. and the steep hill means that it isn't so easy to go to the beach. The hotel should have built a lift tower to the edge of the hotel area closest to the sea to alleviate this problem. Especially for the elderly and for small children this is an issue.
- I would not stay at the villas, because many of them must really suffer from traffic noise. Fortunately no traffic noise in the pool area or normal rooms facing the sea.
- many of the pools are not used much because they are too cold

Over the years we had the opportunity of travelling all over the world staying in all kinds of hotels and appartments. Sometimes lucky, other times nearly catastrophe...! Anyone who's travelled a lot would have similar experiences...? As age come on we have been more selective with accommodations, thats why several 4* and 5* hotels have been selected - also in the Tenerife Costa Adeje area.

For the 2’nd time we were lucky to spend 2 wonderful weeks in this calm, relaxing and beautiful hotel in the end of november. The weather could have been better this time - but this very nice hotel made us "feel-good" anyway! The staff is so friendly - without being brassy, and its clean and dashing all over the place. You may also choose a quiet chilly room (library) and hide away with a book - not so easy to find in hotels anymore. We are convinced this is the best 5* hotel in Costa Adeje, and we hope to be back next year!

La Plantacion is situated on top of a hill in nice and calm surrondings. The hotel have tree good restaurants. Bar Jaima by the pool for lunch, El Buffet for breakfast and dinner and the magnificent El Gourmet Canaria (see the Michelin-guide) for a la carte dinner. There are also several very good restaurants in walking distance (15 min), among them La Hacienda, La Nonna and La Torre del Mirador down by the beautiful Bahia del Duque beach. We also recommend Restaurante Moulin Blanco (10 min taxi) with the famous singing cook! All these restaurants are quite expencive, but there are plenty of good, cheaper restaurants in the Fanabe-area (5 min taxi). For pubs and night-life - take a taxi to Playa de Las Americas (10-15 min).

Dont forget to take excursions on the island, there are plenty to see and taste all over Tenerife!
