We stayed at the Ritz from Oct 15-19th. 8 women traveled to celebrate our friend's 40th birthday. And boy did we celebrate!!! ;) I have to say the Ritz lived up to everything I expected. I would also like to give a special thanks to Therisa Rose, Guest Recognition Co-ordinator. I emailed her prior to going to set up a cake for dinner and reservations. She was EXTREMELY helpful. I met her and thanked her as well.
Ok, let us continue:
Check in: We checked in at the airport with no problem. It made things so much better once we arrived to the hotel. Which was only about 10-15min away. We had booked 4 rooms and we requested to have them on the same floor or at least the same building and they did the best to make that happen. Elvis was the man. He did everything possible to make sure that the room situation was sorted out.
Food was very good depending on where you ate. Horizons is where you eat breakfast. It did get a little old after 5 days and didn't have too much of a variety but you got the basics, cereals, eggs, bacon, breads, omellets made to order, fruit, juice and coffee. Some fish dishes too. You get the point, you will not starve to death.
Lunch time was when we pigged out. The Jerk Center is where it's at. The jerk chicken, rice and peas, plantains and beef patties were very good. They also had grilled snapper that I absolutely loved. Curry goat was deeeelicious too but it's only there as a special. So you have to look out for it.
Mangos was very good too. I've had several dishes. The jerk chicken rolls only served at dinner were good. The hamburger and fish dishes were excellent. They couldn't make a good steak at either restaurant. Everytime I ordered one it was tough and I orderd it medium. I was disappointed but oh well no deal breaker, I still had plenty of other food to eat.
We didn't go to the The White Witch as it is no longer all-inclusive but you can receive a 20% discount if you choose to dine.
Cohoba Lounge food is NOT FREE! They also offer a 20% discount so beware if you go sit down to eat.
Entertainment: This is basically non existent. Well this is my only complaint and why they got a 4 star. It really sucked. The Ritz don't really have an entertainment staff. They had a steel drum band play a little bit during the day and a really bad karaorke-sounding singer at night during dinner. That was it. Not much else, no shows, dancers, nothing. They need to improve this. At least get a better singer. She sucked...LOL But your best bet is to go off the the resort for entertainment. We went to Pier One and Margarittavile for partying and had a blast and a half!
We also went on a catamaran(Booze Cruise) for snorkeling and of course more fun in the sun! That cost about $65 per person and it stops are Margaritaville for a few minutes too.
Drinks: They were top notch. Try the dirty bananna, bob marley shots, miami vice, and my favorite, No Problem Mon! Those were sooooo good! The wine was very good too. As I am also wine drinker you will not be disappointed there.
Spa services I heard were excellent. I didn't use them but my friends that did said they loved it.
Fitness center is pretty nice. I used it once and it was adequate.
Pool: this was our hangout spot during the day. They pamper you by setting up comfortable lounge chairs and towels for you. The will also take your drink orders and deliver them. But remember they are on Jamaican time so they do not rush. Most of the time I just walked up to the bar and ordered. You can also get food here as well. I loved that part. ;)
Beach: Yes it was rocky but it is still beautiful. There's a little area for lounge chairs for all the sunbathers. You can also go sailing which we did do and that was soooo much fun.
Since were celebrating my best friend's 40th, they made sure to make it special for us. While my friend was getting spa services I asked them to bring some balloons down to her lounge chair by the pool and boy did they do it right. They displayed balloons, a towels shaped like a swan, flowers, and rocks that spelled out happy birthday. We were all so impressed. Didn't even have to pay extra for it. We tipped generously of course because it's the best way to get extra nice treatment on the islands. I have no problem with that.
Overall I thought the trip was well. Check back with the Ritz as sometimes they offer free nights. But the only catch is that you have to book directly through the hotel. We almost had a free night! ;( I'm so sad we couldn't get because we were all so sad to leave. It was paradise! Pack your bags and go now!
