We booked a party of seven for Mothers Day. I have never in my whole life been so disgusted at absolutely every aspect of a place in my life before. From the food, service and actually place itself it is a disgrace to even be allowed to be open to the public.
They had greedily packed so many tables in the place that there was no room to move. If there had been a fire I wouldn't like to think of how many people would have been able to escape.
The bar area was packed with two people serving and on entering the building all happy and looking forward to a lovely meal we encountered angry customers waiting to be served. Not a nice start as they were quite aggresive but had been waiting half an hour just for a drink. I wish we had just left there and then to save a very upsetting afternoon.
Mum is 86 and she had to climb the steep stairs to the upstairs part even thought we had requested a table downstairs. We had to wait at the bar for such a long time as you not only had to wait to be served for a drink you also had to order your starters and mains!!! Total chaos with people pushing and shoving each other.
After half an hour we found our own way upstairs to a dingy, worn out area jam packed with tables. No cutlery, no condiments and when asked for them they were thrown into the middle of the table to sort ourselves. These were all different sizes and miss matched old things.
The starter eventually arrived after another half an hour and we had the soup missing. This took another 10 minutes to arrived with no apology. The prawn cocktails were average but I wasn't happy when part of the lettuce was slime as it was so old. We asked 3 times for salt and pepper for the starters and never got them. We finally called her and she said she had forgot and stomped of with no apology.
We then had to queue for the actual carvery. This meant standing inbetween tables where people were trying to eat and we were all stood behind them knocking into their chairs. Then they would want to get up from their tables and we would all have to shuffle into whatever tiny space we could huddle into. I have never waiting in a queue for so long in my life and when we finally did get to the carvery it was dismal.
The beef has large tubes running though the joint and looked disgusting, the pork was also very tough but comments for the turkey were all good.
The yorkshire puddings were very strange, runny and slimy inside and burnt on the outside. How could they do that??? The cabbage was mouldy and swimming in 3 inches of cold water. We couldn't tell the difference between roast or new potatoes. Cauliflower Cheese looked like it had been cooking for a week and the spoon was in the bottom of the grave pan and believe it or not another group infront of us was fishing it out with their hands and putting it back in. We asked for a differnt pot! Then there was the shock when our son went to take some stuffing and there was an blue, industrial kitchen plaster in it. The chef said it must have been a customers which was totally untrue.
By this time we were starving but to be honest there was no enjoyment in this meal as it was cold by the time we managed to get back to the table and a few of us had to eat again later as we were so hungry and when you think of how much we paid this was a disgrace. We also had to complain once again at the lack of correct cutlery and was told it wasn't his fault and he was doing his best. Obviously with all their greed they should have brought in extra staff.
We were then entertained by one of the staff coming upstrairs and screaming and shouting about someone blocking the car park. She screamed at us and made poor mum jump which was totally unacceptable.
We chose not to stay for desserts and were very glad to leave and get away from feeling totally frustrated, dissapointed, hot and crushed.
I would never enter this dirty, damp overpriced place ever again and after seeing some of the other comments I really wish i had checked here before to save a really upsetting Mothers Day for everyone.
Thanks Arties Mill for ruining what should have been a very special day for our mum. We all went home feeling verysad and down in the dumps. Shame on you!!
