“A Unique Palazzo, A Gastronomic Delight!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2010

My husband and I traveled through Umbria & Tuscany for a meticulously-planned 2 1/2 week holiday, staying in 5 different hotels. Our travel agent asked us numerous questions regarding the types of accommodations we were interested in. By far, Palazzo Brandano was the most unique, situated on a typically narrow side street in a tiny hilltop town of 400! I doubt you will find another Tuscan retreat owned by a German/Egyptian businessman, managed by a West African transplant, serving great Chianti, tasty Egyptian wine with a fabulous Puglian chef?!! We were greeted by our host, Osmond who also managed, waited tables and entertained the guests! He is a charismatic, fascinating, generous man whose goal of making us feel truly at home was brilliantly accomplished! The hotel was simple in decor but tastefully decorated. We had a small suite with a lovely separate sitting room, walls decorated with Italian murals throughout. Our bed was sooo comfie and the food magnificent. One quickly finds driving through Italy an adventure in itself with windy roads amidst high hills. And driving up the steep roads of Petroia was no different! But sightseeing was easy; we even visited an ancient monastery and listened to Gregorian Chant in St. Antimo. I cannot recommend this delightful palazzo enough. I was truly sad to leave!

“The Highlight of our 1 year Anniversary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2010

We first heard of the Palazzo from good friends, who raved about their stay during their honeymoon. When my husband and I decided to celebrate our 1 year anniversary in Italy, we knew the Palazzo was our place to stay!
After a busy day traveling from Venice, we arrived in beautiful Tuscany and pulled up to the Palazzo. Joergen and Osmond made us feel right at home. The room was spectacular, with great beds, spacious bathrooms and beautiful views! Throughout the week Joergen and Osmond offered help in planning our daily activities (wine tasting, good restaurant recommendations, site seeing, etc). While we did enjoy some great meals in Tuscany, our most memorable meals were at the Palazzo. The food is outstanding! Our anniversary dinner topped the cake--Osmond ordered flowers for our table and celebrated with Prosecco and delicious, locally made Limonciello. It was truly a night to remember!
Our days at the Palazzo were the highlight of our trip to Italy. 8 months later we love to reminisce over photos and our memories there. Especially our evening cocktail on the terrace overlooking the Tuscan hillside, watching the sun set.
We hope to return sometime soon and we will definitely be staying again at the Palazzo!

“The best possible place to stay in Tuscany”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2010

My wife and I got engaged here three years ago and love this place so much that we returned to Palazzo Brandano a few weeks ago for the third time. Once again it was an unforgettable experience. We have travelled throughout Tuscany and all over Italy 4 or 5 times and this is consistently the best hospitality we have ever experienced. Joergen, the manager and Ousmane, his right hand person always seem to know exactly how to treat each guest as if they were the only people staying at the hotel. They truly have found their niche in life in hospitality. The location is perfect because Petroio is a small town right in between Siena, Montepulciano and Montalcino. There are several excellent places to eat within the vicinity but the restaurant at Palazzo Brandano is so good that we often stay and eat there. This is a true Tuscan experience in a small charming town with beautiful views, a romantic and relaxing environment - and most importantly - it is far removed from the crowds and tour buses. On this last trip we brought our infant daughter and the staff was amazing with her so I would also recommend PB to families.

“FANTASTIC, CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2010

My husband and I stayed at Palazzo Brandano during our honeymoon and it was certainly a highlight. We loved the charm of the hotel and the wonderful service we received from Jeorgan and Osmand. This is a five star hotel/villa. Ican't wait enough great things. We can't wait to go back!

“If your are going to splurge in Italy this is the place!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2009

I have been to Italy about six times. This was my first visit to the Palazzo Brandano. My brother stayed at the Palazzo Brandano previoulsy and gave it a great recommendation. Our stay far exceeded our high expectations. The food was fantastic, the town of Petrorio (which is tiny) was picturesque. However, the detailed and personal service we received at the hotel was exceptional.

You can only reach the Palazzo Brandano by car (maybe bus?) but it gave us the opportunity to drive through the beautiful and untouristed Tuscan countryside. Upon arrival we were shown our rooms which were fantastic (even by American standards).

Our first evening there we had dinner at the Palazzo Brandano. Given the small size of the village and that the Palazzo Brandano is more of a B & B, I expected the meal to be marginal. However, it was one of our favorite meals in Italy.

After a glass of wine or two, we requested that Joergen (the manager) assist us in planning the following day in Tuscany. Although he was more than willing to do so, he told us to finish our meal, not to rush, and that we would discuss it after dinner over wine in the sitting room area. After finishing our meal (and dessert), Joergen suggested we wait until the following day to make our plans so that we could sleep in and relax, or if we were up early we could add to our trip. That is the kind of attention to detail this place provides!

The following day Osmund (the manager) provided us with wonderful suggestions of Tuscan hill towns to visit, and made dinner reservations for us in Multipulciano (what was my favorite restaurant experience in Italy). While dining, Osmund called the restaurant and asked to speak with me, wanting to know how our day went, and wanting to make sure we were happy with the restaurant. Again, attention to detail!

After returning to the Palazzo Brandano after dinner, we drank Lemoncello (homemade by a woman in the village of Petrorio) with Osmund and chatted about life and travel in Italy for quite some time.

I have traveled all over Europe and can say that this was by far the best hotel experience I have had. The accommodations, food, and hospitality are unmatched. Only comment (unrelated to the Palazzo Brandano itself) is that if you are staying here, Petrorio did not appear on my driving map and I was not taking the autostrada so I could not follow the directions on the Palazzo Brandano web site. I found it without difficulty (even when taking side roads not referenced on the web site) but it may be more difficult for those that are not experienced in driving in Italy. Regardless, I would try to reach Petrorio by side roads since it is a spectacular drive.

I can't wait to go back, and will recommend Palazzo Brandano to anyone who is traveling to Tuscany.
