So, we're a family from Sweden who was very worried after reading the reviews here, specially since we'd booked 4 weeks at the Eden. Guess what? I really don't understand what the fuss is all about! And yes, the rooms are basic, and someone wrote that you're not supposed to set up a home here, but that's exactly what we had to do. We travelled with a 3 year old and a 6 month old, and needless to say we needed to stay in our room more than we'd done had we gone by our selves.
We were positively surprised by the kitchen supplies, the rooms were like we'd expected - you get what you pay for -, but the best thing was the terrace with lovely flowers, palm trees and a lawn. My daughter loved being able to play football whenever she wanted.
Now, we're swedes and so there was no kids club for our daughter, but it seems really good with fun activities. And since the kids are so small we didn't take part in the evening fun but that also was varied and seemed great. What we do know is that Bingo was more fun than expected and that the reception staff were GREAT! We did a lot of excursions by our selves and always got the help we wanted.
And yes it's a steep hill to climb from both Puerto Rico and Amadores, but you can always walk down and take a taxi up, like we did. Besides, you don't have to go down every day, the pool is great and the Europa center has restaurants too. We didn't enjoy the food at the hotel though, it was too English................
I've put just a 3 on cleanliness, and I think it's accurate even though it hurts a bit cause the cleaning lady was nice, but she kind of forgot about what's behind the doors.. That and the cockroaches does influence how we percieved our holiday. Cause we did have cockroaches - 7 of them inside in 4 weeksand a couple outside. My daughter thought they were ladybugs.... But, even though they are nasty "little" creatures, what can you expect in a climate like that? I bet they even have them att Anfi :-D Perhaps we're not that fussy after backpacking through Thailand for a couple of months and experiencing worse than some cockroaches, I don't know..
To sum it up we had a GREAT month and a lot of it thanks to Eden. We would recommend others to go there, but personally I think we're done with the island - at leat for the next 30 years, then maybe we'll come back :-)
