In many regards, this is what a resort should be. Quiet, luxurious, well staffed, unobtrusive. Not like those large meccas of "fun" in the foothills. The grounds are lovely, if unimaginatively planted. The pool and tennis courts are great, as are the other low key activities, croquet, ping pong. The restaurants are very nice, especially the outdoor cafe. The gratis evening ice cream is a nice touch. We had reserved a room with two queens and a full pull out sofa and upon arrival were told there was no such thing. I don't know how the wires were crossed, but the hotel was overwhelmingly accommodating and gave us a two bedroom suite for the same price. We were there for four nights bringing our son to college. It was very hot for us, and rooms were comfortable air conditioned. We are eager for a return visit, and plan on making the Arizona Inn our headquarters while our son is there.
Now for the nits. Unfortunately we were unable to secure a reservation for parent's weekend, which is not the Inn's fault, but it would be nice if we could put our name on a cancellation list. Also, as at other hotels, the prices increase substantially during peak times, like parent's weekend(!). More importantly, some luxury amenities were missing or spotty. While the beds were pristine white and comfortable, there were no feather pillows, just those slabs of foam. Also, while the maids came twice a day, once for cleaning and then for turn down, sometimes they brought bottles of water, sometimes buckets of ice, sometimes chocolate for the pillow, sometimes one, two or three of the items, sometimes a combination thereof, sometimes nothing. Same with the towels. Some days we would have a full complement, sometimes no washcloths etc. Consistency would be nice. Finally, coffee is served in the library every morning, and not one morning, not one, was there any left at 7:30, and it was not replenished w/o asking, and then it takes too long. This really needs to be corrected; all the guests were complaining. Otherwise, we can't wait to get back, and we will be more assertive in asking for things!
