Since we are Westgate owners (Myrtle Beach) who previously had a bad experience at one of the Florida Westgate resorts and then read all the negative reviews of this resort, I was concerned that we would be disappointed again. However, we were pleasantly surprised. We called earlier in the day of check-in to let them know we would be arriving late and they were extremely friendly and helpful saying they would have everything ready for us whenever we arrived. We checked in around 8:30 pm, were greeted by everyone and finished in about 5 minutes. The Guest Service Rep was very helpful (a Gatlinburg native) and did not press us to do any timeshare presentations after I had complained about my Florida experience. He gave us tips on where to go get groceries, liquor and his personal recommendations on area restaurants, etc. Upon arriving at our room, there was water on the floor in the bathroom area. He had a maintenance worker there within 10 minutes to check it out and resolve the problem. He also gave us his cell phone number for personal contact if we had any problems or issues. We cooked many of our meals in the room, so kitchen amenities were more than adequate. The Florida resort did not have WiFi, so my boys were thrilled that we had it here. The only cavaet is that only one person can use it at a time. The room was very clean, the fireplace was enjoyable on the gray rainy days and the balcony overlooking everything was nice on the sunny days. We did hear neighbors a few times, but it wasn't worth complaining about. The concierge desk members were friendly and helpful. We bought a few items at the Mini Market, but it was over-priced. So, we did take our Rep's advice and bought groceries at Food City. We enjoyed the pool, but if the resort was full, I think that it might get a little crowded. The only concerns we had in the pool area was that there were a lot of bugs falling from the trees and also a lot of ants. Also, the hot tub at the pool had jets that were extremely strong to the point of almost being uncomfortable. The waterpark was nice, but geared more towards kids. We went twice because we had passes, but I'm not sure we would have used it a 2nd time if we had to pay the full price. Myself and my two college age sons found that the "Lazy River" was comfortable but so shallow (only 2 to 2 1/2 feet deep) that you scraped your legs often on the bottom. The hot tub and pool were comfortable, but on the sunny days it would have been nice to have more of the roof open or less of the dark green, depressing roof panels that kept it very dark inside the park. We didn't eat at the restaurant because it was the same thing that they had in the Florida resort. We did eat at the snack bar above the water park and that food was pretty good for snack bar fare, eg. nachos, burgers, dogs, pizza, chicken tenders, fries, etc. Prices weren't too outrageous so I didn't feel ripped off. We bought the $2 Trolley pass to spend a whole day in Gatlinburg and felt that it was worthwhile. We ate out a few times and did some shopping. Unless you're into a lot of the Pideon Forge attractions, we found that the crowds and congestion in that direction were frustrating. The more relaxing and enjoyable part of the trip was in Gatlinburg. Although, I think going at the fringes of peak periods probably make it better because it is less crowded, overall, my family found this resort very enjoyable and we would go back.
