“Loved it!!!”

For our first 3 nights in NYC (Dec 25 - 28) we stayed at a midtown hotel. For the last 2 nights we moved up to the Upper Westside because the rates were considerably less because of New Years. We were looking for a clean, comfortable hotel with rooms big enough to hold our luggage. The Lucerne was perfect! The hotel was clean and warm. The staff was excellent, when we checked in Jay gave us a choice between 2 available rooms. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable and the rooms were large (for New York). We loved the lighting and the flat screen tv. When we requested a corkscew, the front desk promptly sent it up. The hotel was in a really good location, we walked all over the Upper Westside, to Gray's Papaya and the Lincoln Center. Columbus Circle and everywhere in between. The Lucerne is a comfortable, modest but pleasant little hotel.

“Wonderful stay!”

The previous reviews on Trip Advisor were correct! The Lucerne is a great place to stay. The staff is very helpful. I like the small size instead of a hotel with 1000 rooms. The subway (Number 1 - the main North-South line) at 79th St. is a 3-4 minute walk. The museum of Natural History is 2 blocks. Central Park is 3 blocks. Eat breakfast at Bagel Co. across the street. The Savann restaurant and Monaco restaurants are outstanding and just 1 block away. The area around The Lucerne seems very safe and is very quiet. It is easy to get to any destinationin the city via the subway. A 7-day metro pass can be purchased for $27 and can be used on the subway and bus. If you prefer sleeping and eating in a quiet area but want easy access to New York City's attractions (Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Broadway) this is the hotel for you!

“Great Hotel, Great Location and Great Service”

The Lucerne Hotel is a great choice for visitors to NYC. I have used Tripadvisor for several leisure trips and as a business traveller used to staying in 5* hotels around the world I can get a bit picky. The Lucerne met all expectations from the reviews, especially the service which was excellent. It is located close to the subway, some good bars/restaurants, particularly the Manhattan Diner for a good American breakfast. A nice walk through Central Park and you are at the Plaza Hotel and 5th Avenue shopping. This is a great deal for the price, you can actually place your suitcase and yourself in the room at the same time. A rare thing in NYC!

“Will return!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2009

The Lucerne Hotel on the Upper West Side is nice! It is priced well, clean, friendly staff, nice rooms and baths, great location with subway 1 short block away. Walk out the door and there are many choices for good food. Coppola's across the street good for dinner, Manhattan Diner a couple of blocks away good breakfast choice. Sara Beth's 1 block up for brunch. Central Park a couple of blocks to the east. Cannot say anything negative about it.

“Excellent accommodations, conveniently located"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2009

A family event at a hotel on the Upper East Side took us to New York. We had heard that the Upper West Side was convenient and not so frenetic. The Lucerne came highly recommended from friends in the area. We were not disappointed. Located only a few blocks from the W. 79th St. exit of the Henry Hudson Pkwy, the hotel was easy to find. We were greeted warmly by the staff who remained helpful throughout our two day stay. Our room was comfortable and, while not huge, was more than enough. The room was well maintained. We heard that the hotel restaurant was excellent, although we decided to wander a bit farther to eat in the neighborhood. Next time we will make a point of eating there. We look forward to our next trip to New York City. We'll definitely stay at the Lucerne again.
