This hotel has been updated without losing any of its charm. The bed was very comfortable, and there was little, if any, noise. It was spotless, too! The desk clerks were friendly and helpful. I would DEFINITELY stay here again!

Room tip: Just be aware that the bathrooms are shared, and down the hall. They were absolutely spotless, which was reassuring.

Hotel 17 is the perfect choice if you´re going to visit New York. Cheap, quiet neighborhood and walking distance to almost everything. Close to Union Square where you can eat your breakfast etc. Old fashioned style, clean rooms and helpful staff. The bathrooms are just outside your door so it is almost as you have a bathroom of your own. We stayed in room 601 and it was not even a small room as I thought it would be. The room had a sink, hairdryer, tv and a safe.

LOCATION
Hotel 17 is located just about 3-4 blocks from the nearest subway station at Union Square. The lines that run through there are also great for taking you directly to Times Square and other popular destinations without transfers. So great location in a nice neighborhood with PLENTY OF GOOD EATS. Just head on over to St. Marks Street and 1st Avenue and there are a bunch of cool restaurants and stores.

HOTEL
The hotel was nice and clean. Not gonna lie, it did look a little spooky with its Victorian decor and dim hallway lighting but it's really not that scary at all and there are plenty of other tourists. We had no disturbances so I'm assuming the walls are thick enough. Bathrooms are kept quite clean considering it's shared. I haven't had serious problems getting to the bathroom. If it's occupied I could just go across the floor and most likely it'll be vacant. The service is great and there's constant AC, a security box in your room, and a sink (which I found very convenient). I drank most of my water from the tap. Apparently NY tapwater has rave reviews and it tasted fun and clean to me.

All in all, a great budget hotel in a great location that can take you anywhere, and is also located near very delicious non-touristy restaurants. I'd come back!

First of all, let me just point out that this hotel is very clean and has these adorable small rooms you just can't help but like. The service is top-notch from the hotel staff and they even let you store your bags for free if you arrive early. The toilets are in the halls and only some rooms have sinks in them. But it's completely acceptable and the toilets and baths' are very clean, all the time.

Now to the, somewhat minor, downsides. I don't know if it was just the case of my single room, but the small A/C it had was extremely noisy, even when I unplugged it from the wall. It kept making these high-pitched cracking noises as if it was cracking from a temperature change. Only thing was, it kept making these noises throughout the entire night, and I just couldn't fall asleep because of it. And it would be so random that some of the noises, about every 10 minutes, would be quite loud and wake me up again and again. It was pretty frustrating to be honest.

Another thing is the internet. The upside is that it's free. The downside is that the connection they have at the hotel is of such a low caliber that I struggled to even check my email on it. It took me about 10 minutes to even get the pages to load.

But again, the A/C might just be noisy in this particular room and maybe it was just one guy using up the entire connection when I was trying to use the internet. I don't know, but it definitely did give me a bit of a bad experience with the hotel as a whole.

Great rooms, great service and great location. Bad internet, noisy A/C.

Room tip: Some rooms have sinks. You might be able to get one of those if you ask.

Hotel 17 is a very nice hotel well located on Manhattan. It is near Union Square with many subway lines.
Rates are OK for the location. Rooms are big enough, cleaned + towels changed everyday.
Shared bathrooms are also really cleaned.
What else for a good stay on NYC...maybe a better air conditionning system (weather was very hot during my stay) and a fastest wifi to be perfect ;)
