“Great location and price, very small rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2009

The location and price are hard to beat, if you want to be close to Times Square. The rooms are very small, and even though I only had one carry-on bag, I had a hard time finding space for it. The bathrooms are also tiny. However, everything was clean and modern. The subway is also very close to this hotel, making it very easy for me to get to Chelsea and downtown.

I did the breakfast buffet my last morning, which I would NOT recommend. It's $25 for eggs and sausage and some fruit. You can walk outside and go around the corner to a great healthy sandwich shop for a fraction of the cost. Also, in spite of being in Times Square, I didn't find it noisy in the room at all. The lobby is a different story, it's like a big party, which I thought was pretty cool. The decor is also very nice.

Dear Neil_Boston, I am very happy that you enjoyed your experience and found the location to be perfect for your holiday in NYC. I am sorry the breakfast buffet did not meet your expectations. Your review was brought to the attention of our Executive Chef. We will be reviewing our morning buffet offerings. I hope to welcome you back in 2010. Warm wishes, Christopher Mallon, General Manager

“Much bigger and better than anticipated - GREAT location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2009

We went to NY as a last minute trip during one of busiest weekends for New York so we had to pay over the odds.

We found the Stay Hotel as a last minute offer and had very low expectations. On arrival we were pleasantly surprised by the friendly staff and reasonably large bedrooms. I had heard of other reviews claiming the rooms were like coffins but the room we received was very livable and it was well laid out and very comfortable - we even had a view of Times Square.

The best thing was that it was perfectly located to all the main amenities.... We would certainly go back again but perhaps at a time when New York is a little quited.

If you're into your food avoid the restaurant... there are a lot of better options.

“Nice Hotel - Poor Room !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2009

I recently stayed 3 days at the Stay with my girlfriend. We booked a standard room and got a room with double bed only - no closet or any storage space. Please be aware that this Hotel has some very small rooms that dont have storage space.
They also say a Bose sound system with iPod cradle is in every room - this was not the case.
The bathroom was also a shower only with no bath.
The lobby bar area is nice and there was plenty of life at the Aspen Social Club at the weekend.

Dear CovTripper, I am disappointed to learn that you were less than comfortable during your time in residence. I would recommend when returning to Stay booking a large king room rather than the standard. I believe that you find this room category most luxurious. Our Bose IPOD docks are available upon request. I hope that you return in the not too distant future. Best regards, Christopher Mallon

“Don't "Stay" - they can't even handle a phone call”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2009

I just tried to book 2 rooms with them for a group of friends meeting in New York for a fun weekend. I wanted to check to make sure they had rooms available with 2 double beds. I asked to speak to the Reservations Desk. First time I was disconnected. Second time I was put on hold so long it went back to the front desk. When I explained that I already spoke with her and was waiting for Reservations, she apologized and said she woudl transfer me right away. More hold music, then a few minutes later someone got on the line and asked me to hold. I told them I would take my business elsewhere.

I understand desks get busy, but that was NOT the way to handle their business, which is the business of hospitality, which they totally lacked. Ugh. Too many hotels in NYC to put up with this crap.

Dear jeandc, Thank you for posting your experience. I empathize with your frustration and apologize for the way your telephone call was handled. We were experiencing problems with our telecommunication system. The Operator should have explained this to you and offered to assist you or asked if our reservations team could call you back. Your experience will be reviewed with our staff. I hope that you will give us another opportunity in the future. Again, thank you for sharing. Best regards, Christopher Mallon, General Manager

“Great Location, That's it...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2009

My sisters, mother, sister-in-law and I ended up staying at this hotel because we booked it through priceline.com by naming our own price. Because we booked the room on priceline.com, it was only a single bed, which would not work for all of us, so I called the hotel and asked that we upgrade the room to two double beds, and it was no trouble at the time. I called two days before we left to make sure that we were all set and the reservationist said we were still fine for the two double beds with the upgrade fee.

When we arrived, we waited almost an hour to check-in because there was a "glitch" with our priceline.com reservation. Apparently the reservationist was not supposed to upgrade our room and they only have 10 rooms with two double beds in the ENTIRE hotel. The manager, Chris, came and straightened everything out, although him saying that he was going to "take care" of the person who did this was not very tactful to me.

They only have two, very small, elevators and when you reach the hallways, they are very dark and narrow. I was amazed that the bellhop fit the baggage cart in the elevator! We ended up taking the stairs multiple times because we waited so long for an elevator.

We were pleased to see that the hotel was steps from Time Square which made it very convenient to get to everything! Personally, I think this is the best thing about the hotel.

We did need ice a few times and found it almost amusing that they didn't have one ice machine in the entire hotel! We had to call room service every time we needed ice (complementary).

There was no fridge in the room, so we had to store our leftovers in the employee fridge, which was inconvenient. We should have checked before we left, but not all of our leftovers made it back to us. I think some of them were put in a different spot. Oh well, no Little Italy for the husband back home.

Overall, the experience at the hotel was average. The main reason why we would return is the location. So, I would recommend this hotel as long as people know that they are paying for location and not the basic amenities in the hotel.
