I have just got back from a 5 night stay in the Manhattan Inn Hostel. I went with 40 others as part of a univercity trip to New York.
I had never stayed in a hostel before so wasnt sure what to expect, but was pleasently suprised. I only had one flight of stairs to get my suitcase up, which were quite steep, but that wasnt to much of a problem. I may have struggeled if I had a room any higher though. I think there was 3 more levels so I felt lucky to have a room on first floor.
I stayed in a 4 person room which had 2 sets of bunk beds, which were very comfy! the room was very small not enough space to have all 4 suitcases open on the floor at once, but there was enough space to store them under beds when closed. There was a small cebinet with 2 draws against one wall, so at least you could store a few bits in there. The ladders to the top bunks were a little dodgy :-s but nothing to bad. Room did get a little warm but was fine once had opened window for a bit, I had no real problem with the temperature of the room. Bathroom also very small but an exillent powerfull shower made up for that!
My only real complaint was is would have been nice to have a mirror on the bedroom wall so you could get ready/do your hair near a plug socket. The bathroom did have a mirror but one in the bedroom would have been very usefull and not an expensive extra.
The hostel had a roof top area with seating which was really nice. We spent alot of time up there at night.
Breakfast was served between 8-10am. The first day we got down ther at about 8.30 and it was nearly all gone so you do have to be quick! But it was good that they surved breakfast as lots of other hostels didnt and it was nice that there was a place you could grab a free cup of coffee even if you missed the food. The breakfast room was also very small had only 4 tables so it is best to get down there as early as you can.
The staff were all lovley and helpful. Hostel was in a great location, right in the middle of lots of shops, bars and restruants and subway. There was a good little bar just across the road called the Molly Wee.
Overall I had a great stay at this hostel. If you were going for a long stay I think you may need more living space but as we spent very little time actually in the hostel it was fine. There was so much to see and do in New York city we were only at the hostel to sleep.
I had an amazing time in New York and a lovley stay in the Manhattan Inn thank you!
