My wife and I stayed here Wednesday and Thursday night of Thanksgiving week. We were staying on Hilton Honors Rewards points. I spend 2 to 3 nights a week at various Hilton properties and this is one of the best. I have also stayed next door at the Hampton Inn. It was not available for those dates. I'm glad we got to try the Garden Inn.
This is an excellent location in Midtown. There is a 24 hour parking garage directly across from the hotel on 35th. As a hotel guest you get a discounted ($35) daily rate. The Herald Square Subway stop at 35th and 6th Avenue is right around the corner from the front door of the hotel. Grand Central Terminal, Bryant Park, Madison Square Garden, The Empire State Building and many other tourist sites in Manhattan are within a short walk of the hotel and a very convenient subway or cab ride takes you to the rest of the city.
The hotel is fairly new, built in 2009. The rooms are standard size for Manhattan but well designed to maximize the space. We were fortunate to have a 28th floor room that overlooked the Macy's Thanksgiving parade route. This was at no extra or premium charge. Many of the hotels on the route charge a premium for this.
The staff was friendly, helpful and professional. There was a concierge on site every time I passed through the lobby. There was a security guard at the door in the evening that insisted on seeing my cardkey in order to come in. I really appreciated this. Even though the hotel was full, the breakfast room always had room for everyone. They had two chefs making custom egg and pancake orders and a full waitstaff even though the breakfast was a self-serve buffet. The waitstaff served coffee and drinks and delivered the omelets when needed. This is better service than many Garden Inns. Considering many of the guests were eating on complimentary passes, this is an exceptional level of service. The hotel has a bar off the lobby as well so you can catch a quick cocktail before a night out on the town. The street also has a couple of bars and restaurants that are within a short walk.
There is a full workout room on site that is complimentary and a business center with printing available. There is also a kiosk for printing plane boarding passes and an ATM.
All of this for a below average price, considering the level of service, for the neighborhood.
Overall I would recommend this hotel for anyone for business, vacation for yourself or the entire family. It's an excellent hotel.

Room tip: Odd numbered rooms face north or uptown and give an excellent view of many of the iconic buildings in the area including the Bryant Park Hotel and the MetLife building (Formerly PanAm building). Floors 28 and up on the odd side, corner rooms give an excellent view to the west towards Macys.

Just back from a fiveday stay at New York. Stayed in the Hilton Garden Inn at 35th street based on Tripadvisor reviews and special offer. To be honest this property offers no more than standard Hilton accommodation, but staff (Tammy in particular) makes it more than worthwhile. Polite, friendly and with a great attitude, they make you feel like a guest and thats something special in places like Gotham City and other metropoles. Rooms are not that large, 25 sq meters, but efficiently accommodated with fine, comfy beds, a large tv, microwave, a small fridge, free wifi and a rather small, but very clean bathroom. Our king bed had an adjustable matras to suite our comfort needs.
Our room was on the 29th floor , well above the busy street and quiet. From our window (we could open it) we had a lovely view on the Empire State Building, just half a block away.
Macy's was on our doorstep just as the entrance of the Herald Square subway station with good connections to the rest of the city.
We found breakfast on the site (16,95$) expensive and had our morning meals just around the corner in Pax and other deli's. On 35th Street you"ll find some nice Korean and Chinese restaurants with good quality food for acceptabel prices.
Hotels location is great, just some blocks away from Times and Bryant Square and Port Authority bus station, but far enough from the hussle. Think we'll be back in the shadow of the empire state building.

Room tip: Higher floor rooms for city views and lesser noise.

Stayed here over Thanksgiving based on Tripadvisor reviews. This hotel is a modern property near Herald Sq/Macys. The rooms are standard Hilton Garden Inn-they are actualy decent sized for NYC. Room was quiet (we were on an upper floor) Service is friendly; they offer breakfast and a small lobby bar. Fitness center is large, well-equipped w/ s/steppers; no other equipment other than free weights. Internet is free and fast. NYC subway is just outside the door, Broadway/Times Sq a 5 min walk. Elevators can be slow/crowded at peak times.

Overall, this is clean, modern, no-surprises place to stay in NYC. I would stay here again either for business or pleasure.

Room tip: Upper floor rooms are quieter
