Let me start by qualifying the title: if, like me and my friends, you were stuck with no place to stay within a reasonable distance of the EAA Airventure, then you have no choice if this is the only place available. But if you have a choice, and until the owners bring this motel up to a reasonable standard, then cross it off your list.
Omro is a great little town of some 3000 people, picturesquely situated on the banks of the Fox river and immaculately maintained by the city. It's only a 20 minute drive from the EAA, and has a worthy little diner where the food and service is great. But the town is let down by this Motel.
I had one of the larger units with kitchenette. Drawers we missing from the furniture, there was no phone, cutlery was dirty, bathroom had floor tiles missing, room curtain had holes in it, the fly screen door was broken, my sheets had holes in them, the chest of drawers in the bedroom was ancient and was burned by cigarette marks, some guest had plastered stickers on it, there we odds and ends lying around in the two cupboards, a coat of paint had been hurriedly slapped over the dusty corners... The whole place was so run down and dilapidated. I did see one of the smaller units which to be fair was better (less to go wrong?), but opening...Let me start by qualifying the title: if, like me and my friends, you were stuck with no place to stay within a reasonable distance of the EAA Airventure, then you have no choice if this is the only place available. And the advertised "free Internet facility"? The owners have a router in the "office" and the signal is best obtained by standing outside the room in sight of the "office". Unbelievable. But the best bit is the price gouging due to Airventure: I paid £870 for 7 nights, that's a bit under $200 a night!
I had a word with the friendly owner on leaving, his excuse was that the previous tenant had only just left and he had not had time to fix up the room.
