I booked this break a couple of days before travelling, it was my first all inclusive experience and I travelled alone. I had a wonderful time, thanks to the place and the people, both staff and fellow guests.
I actually found it very refreshing to be in the minority as a "Brit". I would guess 85% of the guests were Danes or Swedes, the remainder from UK and Germany. I can't understand some of the negative comments on here about the place being full of "foreigners", what do people expect when they travel overseas? Fellow guests were all very friendly and always up for a chat over a drink, whatever their nationality. On speaking with most of the other UK travellers, we all agreed how pleasant it was to have no yobby, foul mouthed, embarrassing compatriots around.
All the staff I had reason to deal with were exceedingly helpful and very friendly. I fully agree about the cleanliness too, from daybreak, when cleaning around the pools started, it was always in evidence somewhere for the rest of the day and it showed, the place was impeccably clean, including the rooms, which whilst rather basic, were perfectly adequate.
The food was very good with excellent choices at lunch and dinner. The restaurant operates in a buffet style, the equivalent of waiting staff are all on duty throughout and were very efficient in clearing tables etc. It is evident that Andreas, the restaurant manager is very proud of his function, as are all his team, all who are very approachable and friendly. The arrangements for drinks were great too, during mealtimes you helped yourself to beer and wine, during the rest of the day, there could be queues at the pool bar occasionally, but at night the inside bar was fine.
The resort is situated on the edge of Corralejo, and I wondered if this would be a negative, but it's just a 20min stroll into town one way and the same to the magnificent dune beaches the other, once you get bearings, there are shortcuts both ways, in addition the resort runs a free bus service to the big beach each day. I didn't use a taxi, but heard the fare into town could range from 3-5€.
A couple of tips:
if you plan to hire a car, (as I did with another solo traveller), hire it through reception desk, they use a local company, don't use the international company who have a desk in the lobby; we saved €15 on a one day hire.
If you like "real" coffee, as I do, you'll probably not think much of what comes out of the machines situated around the restaurant. However, decent stuff is available from the bar in the restaurant, just means you have a small wait while it's prepared, but it’s worth it.
All in all, I had a great time and would certainly return, I really think it would be difficult not to enjoy a break here if you are a socially minded person. At this time of year it’s very relaxing to spend the days on site, plenty of room in pools and many spare sunbeds at all times. However, for a change, the beaches are great for walking and there is the old town which has plenty of life and decent restaurants for a change of scene. As it was my first time on Fuerteventura I was pleased to have taken a car to explore the island, (just €35 all in per day), and would recommend the same to others who look for a day off to break the routine.
