“Good... if you know what to expect!”
This hotel has the potential to be excellent, but is sadly let down by some of the staff.
Set in a stunning location, with an excellent pool; breathtaking views and no shortage of sunbeds, the hotel offers a lot to those seeking sunshine and relaxation. There are also numerous, albeit expensive spa treatments available at the hotel's treatment rooms.
There are several pools; one large one, which is heated with thermal waters and rarely crowded; an indoor heated one; a disfunctional jacuzzi and a "hot and cold" rock pool. There is a fine poolside bar (which sadly only serves German beer rather than Italian) and the "La Terraza" restaurant offers hearty local fare, with amazing views over the sea, and a very jovial pianist to accompany your meal.
It is worth paying the supplement for a sea-view, as fellow guests who did not have one were disappointed with the size and age of their rooms.
The hotel is located around a mile from the town of Lacco Ameno, and around two miles from Forio. There is a shuttle bus that runs to Lacco Ameno and back, sometimes via the Negombo spa, but it is quite infrequent, and stops around 6pm.
Sadly, the fine location and facilities of the hotel are tempered (with the exeception of the friendly poolside barman) by the surly and unhelpful staff. As most of the guests are German, few staff speak English, and those who try can only speak a few words. We were often either ignored, or met with disdain by the waiters at the dinner table.
If you stay on a half-board basis, the anti-pasti buffet selection is extensive and excellent, and well worth stocking up on, as the following three courses are "hit and miss," but - to be fair, are more often a hit than a miss. As mentioned before, the dinner was often soured by the grumpy waiters.
This was the only hotel out of the three we stayed in during our honeymoon that did not offer any champagne or gifts in our room, despite reminders to them that it was a special occasion. On another note, the room was large, modern, spotless and the cleaning staff were friendly (despite a rather unusual habit of knocking on the door at 6pm every evening to check if "everything was alright!).
On leaving, it is best to check your bill, as you will be presented with a massive list of digits, some of which are obviously "inflated," for example, we were overcharged for wine we had at dinner, and there were some spurious entries for the poolside bar.
To conclude: the Grazia is a fine hotel if you are looking for a relaxing time in the sun, with nice pools and "easy" dining. If you are seeking a more lively and friendly environment, however, it is best to look elsewhere...
