I booked this motel, a Choice Hotel (National, well-known chain) at the last minute. We were traveling through Virginia after hiking and needed to stop for the night. We had been camping, so we thought, "How bad could it be?" The answer: unreal! Our first clue should have been the smell, like a mixture of kennel and smoke. Then, there was the broken bed frame leaning up against the stairwell wall as we schlepped our things up the stairs. Fine. Maybe the place was a little old. Then we opened the door. It looked like a brawl had just occurred in that room. The furniture was smashed to pieces, the bed was in pieces, torn from the wall from which it had been bolted. There were holes, I think from bullets, in the ceiling and walls. I seriously wonder who "cleaned" that room and decided it looked "good enough." Then, the icing on the cake came when my young son called out, "Mom, what's on the toilet??" I yelled for him to back away and not touch anything before turning the corner. I expected filth, but what I discovered was a steady steam of wet, black debris flowing from below the third floor toilet onto our second floor toilet. There was a huge hole where the above toilet was falling through the ceiling. We asked for a refund, but were originally told no. I called the main Choice Hotels number, and they did negotiate with the front desk. I did have to tell them that they could return my money or I would call the Board of Health and they would have to return EVERYBODY'S money once they shut the place down. Now, please keep in mind, we had just been camping for a week, so we weren't looking for anything but a roof, a toilet that wouldn't fall on our heads, and some semblance of safety. This last point was our final straw. During our dealings with the front desk, people began coming out of the woodwork. I suspect they might live there and I'm sure there were serious drugs involved. I can't swear to it, since I have no experience in this area, but I'm fairly certain it's a crack house. So we dragged our gear back down the stairs, tossed everything in the bed of the pickup, lifted my son inside and peeled away. When running our credit card through the machine to refund our money, the front clerk said the place needs a woman's touch. I told him it needs a wrecking ball! Disgusting and totally unsafe, you couldn't pay me to stay here and I never could have slept, especially with a child in the room, for fear of being killed. I said I'd rather sleep in our pickup at a rest stop on the side of the road, and that's exactly what we did. I wish I could explain how absolutely horrible this place was. There are simply no words to describe it. It needs to be shut down, but until it is, don't stay here!
PS those pictures from "the management" shown above are NOT this motel. I'm sure it's the brand, but trust me, this particular motel looks nothing like those pictures.

WOW! I have pretty low standards and let me tell you this place was uninhabitable.

First of all it took about 20 minutes for the front desk to give us keys. Next, The walk to our room was on soaking wet squishy carpet. We open our room door only to see a severely stained carpet, heat on full blast(probably to aid in drying out the carpets) brown toilet water with mold growing in it, bar of soap unwrapped and laying next to the sink, crumbled up towels in bathroom, and to top it off, a wire coat hanger bent straight with hair, goo, and white stuff laying in the moldy shower tub. I am hoping there was a clog in the drain and not some kid of illegal medical procedure taking place. On top of all that, the smell of this place was awful.

Not even worth complaining as the front desk doesn't acknowledge anyones existence which will lead to you being more frustrated.

Trust me on this one...go somewhere else, far far away from this hell-hole.

My husband and I arrived at Rodeway Inn in Culpeper, Va around 12:00 am, on Friday, April 13, 2012. My mother had called the hotel earlier that evening to reserve and pay for the room. When we arrived we explained to the front desk clerk that the room was reserved and paid for and the reservations should be under my name. The hotel clerk was very rude and spoke very little English. I had to wake my mother up by phone to have her explain to him that he had her authorization to use her credit card. He would not speak to her and said that he need written authorization, even though that is not what he had told her over the phone. I was so tired that I told him I would just pay for it myself. We paid for the room and got the keys. Inside the room, I was overwhelmed with shock of what our room looked like. There was a bug smashed to the ceiling. There were electrical cords stretched throughout the room; plugging in the space heater on the counter area and behind the bed to plug in the bedside lamps. There were splatters of what looked like, blood and something else sprayed all over the walls. My husband took only a wet cloth and wiped down one section of the wall he looked at the towel afterwards it was filthy with all of the filth that came off of the wall. I turned down the bed sheets to find fresh makeup stains on the bed. My husband left the room to get ice when he got back he told me to not go outside of our room because there were individuals that looked like they were involved in prostitution. I thought that I could just get through the night since, we were exhausted from flying in that day and it was too late to even see if we could find another hotel in the city. My husband and I didn't feel safe inside or out and was afraid of what could possibly crawl on us in the middle of the night. The next morning I didn't even want to go into the bathroom because it was so filthy. There was pubic hair in the bathtub, dirt/grim on the light switches, and the bathroom door handle was barely attached. The hotel room was also hot because the window A/C unit did not cool the room at all. I also had noticed there was what looked like blood on the side of the mattress and all over the boxed springs. My husband and I didn't take a shower or freshen up we packed up our belongings the next morning after taking pictures and went to the front desk clerk. We tried to explain to him how dissatisfied we were and to go take a look at the room with us but he refused. He was the same hateful hotel desk clerk we had the night before. After, arguing for several minutes he decided to only refund us for one night because we had paid for two nights. I will never again stay in a Rodeway Inn and I have made it known to our family and friends to never stay at one again.

Room tip: Don't waste your money on staying at the Rodeway Inn! Absolutely disgusting!

All I can say is, stay somewere else! ..... No heat, dirty carpets, no fitted sheets just flat sheets on the bed, had to get up in the middle of the night and re-make the bed. Did not feel safe because the security lock was missing on the door.... It was a total mess....I've made a complant to Choice Hotel and then had charges reversed on my credit card!
