Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

BEWARE! Do not book a room here. This motel has been sold and no longer books by the night, but the website still allows bookings. We arrived to find NO WAY TO CHECK IN and had to find other accommodations on short notice. Zero stars.

How this place is rated 4 is beyond me. Wallpaper was maybe out of the 70’s. Room very dark with one light bulb in a three light fixture. Floor is soft and slants toward the corner of the room so you are walking uphill to the bathroom. Carpet was stained. Roof was starting to cave in on one side of the building. You can see daylight around the door and only had a vintage chain lock along with the doorknob lock. The bathroom was tiny but clean. The bed springs on my husbands side of the bed sprung every time he moved. This was the only availability in town last night so we took it. Next hotel was 91 miles away. Next time I’d sleep in my car.

Good lamp light, wood panels, comfortable bed, clean shower I love sitting in the bench outside the rooms in the cove created by the U shape of the motel. Overall ambiance felt very comfortable. Slept well. Enjoyed walking around the area Very nice host

This place was a stop over for us as part of a month-long road-trip, and we chose it because of the cost & the retro feel (we love to stay at small, older places when we can amongst the usual more standard chain type motels). It also had decent reviews considering it’s low prices, so we thought it was worth a try for a one night stay, seeing as we are not those kind of exacting high standards travellers who moan because they never got smiled at enough or that there was a bit of a stain on the carpet. Plus we’ve had multiple experiences throughout our many roadtrips where we’ve paid next to nothing for a room & been pleasantly surprised with the quality. So this review is given being as charitable as possible & finding the good points along with the bad. It’s right on the main route through Green River & was in the old style of motel with parking outside each room. Plus the signage is very cool outside, especially once it’s lit up at night. I think it does most of it’s trade on the fact that it’s close proximity to Canyonlands, Moab etc. We arrived a bit early & the room we had booked (asking for the end one, so as to only have one neighbour) wasn’t quite ready yet – they were still cleaning it. So the helpful chap on the desk got all our details & sorted the paperwork, then suggested we go off for a wander & come back a bit later to be able to access the room. When we got back and into the room, I have to admit that even I (the eternal optimist) was a little disappointed – but then I remembered how much I’d paid for it ($55 / £40) & had to lower my expectations a bit (which again, I must say are not unrealistic in the first place!). The room was small & very old/worn with old secondary double glazed window which were pretty grimy, squeaky floors & stains on the carpet, but again – I kept my slippers/crocs on when in the room and it was manageable. The bed was very old and we didn’t have the best nights’ sleep on it and there was a strange smell around the bed area which wasn’t conducive to a relaxing repose! There was a small table & a couple of chairs to be able to sit & use our laptop at, and there was a small fridge which was useful. Still, the bathroom was a decent size and clean - it looked as though they had replaced some fittings with a new sink/toilet, and it had been tiled on the floor, but the hand towels left a lot to be desired. Now, we’ve been known to abandon certain hotels after checking in (happy to lose the small cost and put it down to experience) and find alternatives at the last minute, but although I was tempted here, we didn’t have the energy and decided to suck it up, get some sleep because we’d barely be spending any time in the room anyway (we’d planned to be on our way early - mega early like 4am - to get into Canyonlands before the hordes). I can’t say that I would stay here again, unless they put a little bit of effort into minor renovations (and paying a bit more for that wouldn’t be a problem) but if you just want a cheap as chips place to sleep for a couple of hours, you might want it give it a try. And the staff were pleasant enough & helpful in our experience. There’s potential here for a decent retro renovation to make this place quirky & funky rather than worn & grimy, and I hope that the owners are looking towards doing something like that while keeping the character of the place.

I think the review are a little misleading. The rooms are extremely small with the furniture they have in the rooms. The bathroom was clean but no place to put anything. We only had one wash cloth and one roll toilet paper. Maybe people steal the toilet paper but there should be one spare roll in each room. The carpet does not appear to be clean. I could see outside with the crack between the door and the wall. The bed was okay but woke up to a sore back every morning. Our mini refrigerator worked good but the couple we were traveling with refrigerator did not work good and would not freeze anything. I wanted ice on Sunday but office was closed and no way to get ice. I will say the owners were extremely nice and seem to be making needed upgrades as they can. They were working on one of the rooms bathroom when we were there. This just was not my kind of place. I booked based on the reviews hoping to be pleasantly surprised which I was not.

Absolutely disgusting and I feel fooled by these reviews. My husband and I got in late and just wanted to eat and sleep. Check in was easy and the man working was nice. The office was very disorganized and he was caring for a 4 month old. The room we got (#1) was dark. Dead bugs on the floor of the bathroom. Stains on the sheets. We decided to just lay on the clean sheet. In the middle of the night, we woke to itching to discover bed bugs. We immediately packed up, called management and left a message. We had to find a new place at 3:30 in the morning and do laundry. The next morning we came back and got a refund. Management tried to convince us that the bugs couldn't be bed bugs but were clover mites. The multiple bites still on my lower back and legs prove otherwise. I appreciate the refund and he said he would call his bug guy, but this was a major inconvenience that cost us time, money, and pain.

I've stayed at some pretty poor motels, but I paid much less that at the Robbers Roost. For the cost of the room, I would expect a couple of cups, some ice, and the room, if not made up at least somewhat straighten up between nights. I didn't spend a lot of time looking at cleanlyness, but my impressions were that the room cleanlyness was simular to the rest of the services which did not deserve a good rating. I suspect the fellows running the property were not too well taught in the motel business. Next time I will call around and probably get a better room value.

Ever stayed at a motel that's closed on Sundays? Neither had we, until the Robber's Roost. We pulled in at 5:30 pm on a cold rainy day and we were the only car at this drive-up-to-the-door motel built in the 1940's. Luckily on the office door, it said if you had a reservation, which we did, call this number. So we did, and the manager came and checked us into Room Five. Unless you embrace minimalism, don't stay in Room Five. Unlike pictures of other rooms at the Roost, ours did not have wood paneling...or an electrical outlet in the bathroom...or any artwork at all (stolen?) on the plain white walls...or an ice bucket...or Kleenex...or drinking cups..or a full set of towels for two people...or weatherstripping around the door. Oddly, you stepped down into the room upon entering and stepped up to enter the bathroom. So, hey..our first sunken living room in a motel. In the bathroom the toilet was so close to the bathtub, that when you stood up, your face hit the shower curtain. And you know how burning hair smells? That's what it smelled like when we turned on the heater to warm up the room. We thought the smell would go away after a while, but nope. So we turned the heater off, opened the door to clear out the smell, and watched a cold rain from our sunken living room. Oh, forgot to mention the microwave and fridge were in the closet. Sounds pretty bad doesn't it? But hang on. What this room did have was the most comfortable bed and pillows of our entire 3-week road trip. Plus it was clean. Plus the manager was very helpful. He brought us ice in a bucket upon request. He was extremely friendly and helpful with restaurant recommendations and weather reports and we're sure he would have brought us some more towels had we requested them, but we weren't going to use the shower anyway. So would we stay at the Robber's Roost again? Maybe..but definitely not in Room Five.

We’ve stayed in better! The rooms could do with a makeover, definately a bit tired. However it’s cheap! Rooms have a fridge, microwave, TV, Wi-fi, air-con and comfortable beds. Difficult to fault for the money. And it’s close to Ray’s Tavern!

We used this motel as a stopover both to and from our final destination. They were extremely accommodating, even though we came in late at night. The clerk was kind enough to advise us of the local eats available and what discounts we could get. He also remembered us when we came back through on our return trip and put us in the same room. The air conditioning worked wonderfully, the mini fridge and microwave were perfect for our needs, and the beds were comfortable enough for the night. The room was clean and a great value for what we paid.
