“A TRUE UNBIASED REVIEW”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2010

I just stayed here all inc with 2 other girl friends (all of aged 30-37) and before I went some of the reviews on here had me really worried, about the security guards, and food etc.

Its nothing like it! We went in the height of the season and stayed for 10 days. Half the hotel is being refurbed so I would suggest waiting till the end of the year to see it in its fully finished state.

For what we had it was fab. The food on the all inc buffet was varied, the meat REALLY well cooked and a huge salad bar range every day. There were healthy options for every course of every meal and chips were not the only potati option either. We had mash potatoes and new potatoes too. Brekkie - croissants and pastries, toast, fruit, yoghurts, cereals, full cooked breakfasts, measts and cheeses. Lunch - full salad bar (massive choice), 4 different meat dishes and a fish and veggie option, hot wok food, pizza, chips, soup of the day, fresh fruit, ice cream and other dessert and the same for dinner.

The security guards were fine! Yes they kept an eye on the more noisy groups of younguns but we were grateful for that! We didnt hear of anyone being marched to the Managers office and fined for noise, indeed it was quite noisy most nights from 3am with people coming back from the strip but if you stay in Las Americas thats to be expeted!

The whole complex was spotless and the pools were clean and refreshing. Always got a sunbed and its only a narrow strip by the one of the buildings that doesnt see the sun in the afternoon. The all inc bar gives generous measures when pouring spirits and the staff were really friendly. Indeed the reception didnt charge us for hlf the time we had the safe and gave us free towels AFTER check out so we could shower.

The only gripe is that they cut off our all inc band at breakfast on our last day so we had to eat out as our flight wasnt till 10pm.

The lobby is air conditioned, the room (we booked a studio and actually got a 1 bed!) was visited every day and we got fresh towels daily. The sheets were changed every 2 days, and the only thing they didnt do which we'd have liked was to properly clean the floor - bus just take flip flops and wear them in the apartment!

I would DEFINITELY go back and it will be even nicer next year when its all done. Its close to loads of nice places to eat and drink and I highly reccomend The George round the corner form the hotel. The food was fantastic and the staff were unequalled. We popped in to have a cheeky watch of X Factor and they play all the sports games and all english sosaps for those that cant miss em!

Reccommend to all. Think those complaining abotu the staff must have been noisy themselves and if you ask me that deserves action being taken!

“4th time at this hotel and it only gets better...”

usually go self catering but went all inc this time. arrived late at night and found the staff had left us chicken and ham salad, bottle of water each and a french stick with cheese oh and fruit. we had a bungalow right by the pool this time. lovely!! plenty of room. 2 power showers and our own patio. the new reception, bar and entertainment rooms are all lovely. the new pool has a jacuzzi in the middle of it. the pool gets the sun everyday and the plus side of the hotel being renovated is there are plenty of sunbeds to go round. the life guard is very helpful, he will always find u a parasol if u want one. the staff are all very polite and friendly esp the restaurant staff. they still hav a courtesy locker room where u can lock your cases after uv checked out and there are showers and loos and hairdryers. u just get the key from reception. there are darts, pool, table tennis and water polo which sonia and mitchel organise daily .. evening there are different things on every night , bingo every night. at the mo the all inc bar is at the main bar which is better thn bein at la tasca. u can get 2 drinks each at a time. food is available all day. at the mo the pizzeria and supermarket is shut. not sure bout the gym. internet cafe is open. hotel is within easy walkin distance of the beaches of las americas and los cristianos and the nightlife starts right on the doorstep. we never heard any noise at night. the security guard hovers but as long as ur behavin he leaves u alone. there were 3 of us, woman in her forties, child of 14 and an 18 year old. there was a good mixture of ages there. i would say it is suitable for anyone.. would go back again. the maid cleaned everyday.

“Amazing holiday, great place for a group of friends!!!”

I've never been to Tenerife before and was really unsure about it especially after i saw all the bad reviews about it and heard what Tenerife was like, but a few of my friends have been there and stayed at Columbus before and said it was ideal. I went with a group of 6 girls met 3 out there and i was expecting like everyone said really bad stuff to happen. But it was a complete opposite the hotel must of just been renovated and it looks soo lush now its all marble floor, leather sofas in the lobby, clean and a lovely bar! Although i have to say being my first time to Tenerife i wouldn't say it was ideal for families and older people or couples as when we went the age group in the hotel was from 17- late 20's? Which the rep's also said was a first but for a girly holiday or lads hols it would be perfect the food was lush the staff were soo welcoming everything was just great!! The only downer i guess you could really say was that they were in the middle of refurbishing the other side of the hotel so by the pool area you got a bit of building noise but for young people just stick your ipod in and your fine!! And about the floors you always get dirty feet wherever you go same as most place like that its only 3* !!

“You get what you pay for....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2010

Ok, So lets get one thing straight, this place is CHEAP. My friends and I were looking for somewhere central for a long lads weekend in the sun, and we were offered The Columbus for little over £40 pppn for All Inclusive! And to be fair it does exactly what it says on the tin. Yes its dated, its in need of a renovation, the food wouldnt win any Michelin Stars and the building isnt exactly pleasing on the eye, but for the price I really had no complaints. the rooms were fairly clean, the food at the all inclusive was hot and edible and the all inclusive booze (while not exactly free flowing - one drink per person, etc) was cold and easily available.

I think the question of wether I would recommend this hotel to a friend totally depends on what that freind was looking for - If you want a romantic break with a partner in luxorious surroundings, spend a little more and go to one of the many 5* places - La Siesta, Hotel Gala or the Mare Nostrum etc. If you're looking for hen/stag party accomodation, 18-30's style holiday or a cheap getaway then the Columbus is perfect.

“it's great. go there!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

This is a good hotel in general. The food is ok, location good and the rooms on the top floor are very comfortable. The renovation work was a little loud at times, but not for sustained periods. The staff are helpful, courteous and hard-working. Sunbeds were sometimes hard to come by, but this is to be expected in an all-inclusive establishment.
