“Never again!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2010

Booked this hotel based on information given on On the Beach website and video. Facilities nothing as described, half the hotel being refurbished therefore constant banging, drilling. Work not limited to there but tar being laid between tiles around pool, decorative window dressing so ladders all around, doorway being made and plastering going on! On the Beach website states facilities such as gym, supermarket, beauty centre, laundry, none of which actually exist! Beware of this company as even today they continue to misrepresent the hotel and it's facilities.

“Good hotel, but staff very rude at the bar and reception only”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2010

Just back a couple of days ago, after reading some of the reviews I was not looking forward to my holiday, But when we arrived part of the hotel had been done up and the other part getting done. The reception was very clean and inviting for guests, the pool was clean and the bar had opened at the pool, instead of away on the corner. The rooms where clean and I suppose they will be all getting a face lift. The food was good but abit mudane after a few days, The only thing wrong was when we arrived we where given a wrist band for all inclusive, our room key and a bit of paper with our room number on. When we went for dinner that evening we where ask for the bit of paper to enter the restaurant. So the wrist band was for the bar and the paper card was for the restaurant. So we had to carry all three about with us. The bar staff are very rude, the reception staff a little bit better. But the restuarant staff where very friendly. I dont know how long until all the work will be completed, but we had a good time the weather was great and the lady who amused guests aroung the pool was hilairious. I would go back just the hotel finished. I would also recomend this hotel with its few faults. I was very central for everything.

“6 lads in Tenerife”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2010

The hotel is really cool for what you pay for. it's clean and it all inclusive. the all inlusive is very controlled, to the extent where you can only eat quality food at certain times and you may only order a max of 2 drinks from the bar. But all in all, we had a cracking time!!1

“Ignore terrible reviews... We had a very pleasant stay at Columbus and would stay again!!”

I returned from a week long stay at Columbus on the 24th July with one other friend, and i would like to say that alot of the complaints about the hotel are highly exaggerated! The reception is all brand new and kept very clean. Rooms are rather basic but have everything needed and maids visit on a daily basis to change bedding and have a general clean. Our room was road facing so could be a bit noisy at night with the doors open although it wasnt half as bad as some reviews suggest. The doors could do with a bit of sound proofing though as guests arriving through the night could clearly be heard from our rooms. I was dreading the thought of this hotel being an 18-30s style hotel with young loud and rude visitors, much to my surprise there were many more famillies and couples which made the pool atmostphere wonderful. The pool area is fab, brand new as of two weeks previously and kept extremely tidy, with new sunbeds and parasols. The other half of the hotel is still being refurbished although it is all cordened off and didnt bother us at all.

Daily pool activities were put on such as water polo, darts, snooker. although this seemed targeted at the children. We were self catering and didnt feel the need to eat at the hotel as we wanted to explore.

Nightlife is only 5-10 minutes away so a perfect distance (especially as we travelled just us 2 girls)

Pool food and drink are reasonably priced and paninis atc are all very nice.

The hotel should definitely be awardered a 4 star status once works are completes. I was pleasantly surprised at how modern the hotel is, and would definitely stay again.

“Better than expected”

Stayed from 16th to 25th and like others was very concerned when read reviews. Was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. On check in we were to have rooms side by side and this was not the case but the man on reception changed this without any problem and was most pleasant. The reception bar and pool area have recently been renovated and were lovely and clean and completely different from pictures on website. One half of the hotel was closed due to renovations and there was a bit of noise but we were expecting this before we arrived so it was no problem. The rooms we had have not been renovated yet but were adequate for our needs. We did not pay Hilton prices so did not expect Hilton standards. It was clean with towels every day and pleasant cleaners - not a cockroach in sight. Was noisy one night within the hotel when young fellas came in and were rowing but it was over quite soon. It is a noisy town and ear plugs are a good idea if you want to have your balcony doors open with the heat. Airconditioning would be such a bonus and hopefully they will be installing it when renovating the rooms. Didnt really eat there as went S/C but found a fantastic chinese round the corner and down a bit from the Gaelic Corner/Dubliner bar. Loads of men selling glasses/watches etc which was very annoying when they came into restaurants and we had been warned about being approached and touched by people who had apparently the rape drug on their hands and it was supposed to knock you out and you would then be robbed. I didnt see any of this but was grateful to the lads from Essex for the warning. Loads of ones trying to get you into bars which is annoying too when you just want to dander about. Older children loved the nightlife though a family bar next to a lapdancing club was a bit weird!!! Would recommend Siam Park - though wear a t-shirt at all times in water as you will be burnt even with sun cream. Loro Parque is also amazing well worth the journey and money. Submarine was good but not worth the cost. On the whole great holiday, good hotel, loads of sun and heat and plenty of choice for food and drink which are quite cheap. Ladies loads of perfume, jewellery and handbags.
