Stayed one night in early July '03 at the Chateau Lalande, between Bergerac and Villeneuve sur Lot. The standard double room was not cheap (140 EUR, the lowest available rate), but it was a nice, huge room with a GREAT bathroom (nice massaging shower head, huge tub, nice appliances). Just: the room did not have A/C (did not need it: we're French!) and the prices of the mini bar items were outrageous, yet being in the hotel industry I know this is understandable. This place has one of the most beautiful swimming pools we've ever seen and the staff is very nice and helpful, if a bit laid back! We had a great candlelit dinner by the pool, sampling 6 different kinds of foie gras. The chef comes to your table to make suggestions, which is nice. If you are on a budget, inquire about the price of dinner first though since the 'a la carte' offerings show no prices. Our dinner came up to 195 Euros for two (plus 48 Euros for a nice wine) which was well worth it, but somewhat pricey. Consequently, we saved on breakfast the next morning (15 Euros per person!). Overall an unforgetable experience though! We will be back!
