This museum is situated in Fair Park and is a bit off the beaten path. It is worth taking a hour or so to explore the old trains if you have little ones or a train lover in your group. We live in the area but have decided to play tourist to our home town over the past couple of years as money has been too tight to travel. This has been one of the fave spots for my kids ages 4 and 6. It's not a huge place, but it is nicely done. The old rail cars are restored to their original digs and you can walk through and explore them at your own pace. Most of them are airconditioned which is a nice bonus in the Texas heat. The nicer, bigger cars usually have volunteers stationed in them on the to tell you the facts and the history of the car you are in. From sleeper cars to dining cars, they have them all. This is a good side trip to tack on to a trip to the Science Place museum and Imax theater which are also in Fair Park.
