On a recent trip to Ireland, I spent six nights at the Island View, using the B&B as base for my explorations and ramblings throughout Connemara. Words are inadequate to describe and express my appreciation to the owners of this family run B&B. B&Bs are the preferred accommodations when I travel, and this B&B stands out from the rest. In many ways, the Island View mirrors the village of Roundstone in its warmth and charm. After many days rambling throughout Connemara, I was greeted in the late afternoon with a pot of tea and a warm scone. Maurice and his wife go out of their way to accommodate their guests. The rooms are extremely comfortable and up-to-date in appointment and convenience. Breakfast was always abundant and delicious, using all local produce and victuals. Because he is from the area, Maurice was extremely helpful in providing advice on drives, walks, and local history. Perhaps my best memories of the stay were the conversations I would have with him, his wife, and occasionally his children - usually over a pot of tea. This is truly a family-run B&B. If you, as a traveler, are interested in more than just a bed and a breakfast, than the Island View is highly recommended. Traveling should be about meeting local people and sharing stories and experiences. Roundstone offers this, and so does the Island View. The only hitch is that you - the traveler - must take time out from your busy schedule and listen, share, and laugh with the people who are doing their best to accommodate you. The Island view is the perfect place to do that.
