“We loved Lisdonagh!”

We had a wonderful stay at Lisdonagh! Our family group of 23 rented out the entire property for a week and enjoyed every minute in the beautiful Irish countryside. The house has been restored with great care and attention to detail. Each room has its own unique charm furnished with antiques as well as modern comforts.

The owners Finola and John were so kind and made us feel very welcome. They wanted to make sure to allow our group privacy but were quick to help out whenever we had a question or need.

Although we cooked for ourselves for most of the week, we treated ourselves to two dinners prepared by the chef and only wish that we had done more! The dinners were delicious and were such a special treat allowing our group to simply enjoy our stay.

We would return in a heartbeat!

  • Liked — The peaceful setting in the beautiful Irish countryside.
  • Disliked — The only thing I could say needed improvement was that the carpets in the main living areas could have used a good cleaning.

“Exceptional Mansion for our retreats”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2007

We travel to Europe each year to conduct retreats for professional, executive couples. We rent castles or mansions that are considered 5 star properties. Lisdonagh Manor was truly exceptional in every way.

All the committments and pre-retreat arrangements were fulfilled and even better than we excpected. The owners personally worked with us on every aspect to make our stay at Lisdonagh a remarkable experience - even arranging for local entertainment that came to the house for our group.

The bedrooms were large and filled with antique furniture and art. The other rooms were beautiful - the living room worked very well for our retreat gatherings (8 - 9 couples). The grounds wers magnificent, and the group enjoyed personalized outdoor activities such as horse back riding and fishing.

The staff was most pleasant and always willing to serve. The house was always spotless and our rooms cleaned every day.

The meals were some of the highlights of our retreats. The staff prepared breakfast every day, and for dinners we experienced the creations of an exceptional live-in chef. We selected the menus and He and his staff prepared food that would be considered equal to a five star restaurant (at much less price), along with presentation of the food that blew us away.

We have done these retreats in many different countires with different houses/staffs. Lisdonagh is now ranked at the top. We would return in a heart beat - We cannot say enough about how wonderful this time was for our groups. It truly was exceptional.

“A headfirst dive into Ireland”

We were in Ireland for the first time for a wedding and wanted a place to stay that gave us the true flavor of Ireland. And we definitely found it. The grounds were great, especially with the kids. Reminded me of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Tree-lined country road into the cottages and manor house. The accomodations had everything we needed, jacuzzi, full kitchen, gas fireplace, rustic country feel. And the service was outstanding. Whatever we needed we got; wine, food, forgotten household items, etc. We felt like we were dealing with friends not a commercial enterprise. Our kids got pony rides and went to school for a couple of days and had a great time. We would definitely return. Would like to try it without the kids. Could be very romantic as well.

  • Liked — Authentic cultural feel
  • Disliked — Could have been a little more maintenanced

“Wonderful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2007

We just got back from our wedding at Lisdonagh House. I was intending to write a review anyway but when I saw the ugly negative postings of some 'anonymous guests' I felt I had to do it sooner rather than later as my experience could not have been more different.

We rented the entire estate for a whole week. We had the main house aswell as the two villas and the gate lodge. In all we had 32 family members staying here, from England, Ireland and the USA., ranging in age from 8 to 84. We had the most wonderful time , everyone was absolutely thrilled with the accomodations and the estate. When we arrived everyone was overwhelmed with how special the house was with its period decor and furniture and yet comfortable, homey feel. No it doesnt feel like a modern 'perfect' hotel and yes if you look close enough there may be some chipped paint but that just made it all the more authentic and historic feeling.
The setting and views from the house are beautiful. I actually dont think the website does it justice, which is unusual as websites normally oversell.
On our wedding day we had an additional 16 guests who were staying in Headford and when they arrived for the wedding they couldnt believe how wonderful the house was and how perfect the setting was.
Finola and John, aswell as Evelyn the housekeeper and the chef and the girls who took care of us couldnt have been nicer, more welcoming or more helpful during the week awell as the day of the wedding.
The 'amenities' are the beautiful views, scenic walks (as short or long as you want to make them) and a boat that ,even though one of the oar holders was broken, my daughter and my niece had the most fun rowing out to the island. They also have the friendliest horses who will gather around as you walk through thier fields. At one time we had more horses than people, it was an amazing feeling.
It was a perfect week for both of our families who were meeting for the first time and the wedding day was the wedding of my dreams. As some who were there put it, it was 'enchanting' and 'everything and more than we had hoped for'.
I dont have anything bad to say about the accomodations, the grounds or the service. I hope that if anyone is thinking of stayng here they are not put off by the negative postings but instead listen to the majority who fell in love with Lisdonagh and its magical charm.
