We just got back from our wedding at Lisdonagh House. I was intending to write a review anyway but when I saw the ugly negative postings of some 'anonymous guests' I felt I had to do it sooner rather than later as my experience could not have been more different.
We rented the entire estate for a whole week. We had the main house aswell as the two villas and the gate lodge. In all we had 32 family members staying here, from England, Ireland and the USA., ranging in age from 8 to 84. We had the most wonderful time , everyone was absolutely thrilled with the accomodations and the estate. When we arrived everyone was overwhelmed with how special the house was with its period decor and furniture and yet comfortable, homey feel. No it doesnt feel like a modern 'perfect' hotel and yes if you look close enough there may be some chipped paint but that just made it all the more authentic and historic feeling.
The setting and views from the house are beautiful. I actually dont think the website does it justice, which is unusual as websites normally oversell.
On our wedding day we had an additional 16 guests who were staying in Headford and when they arrived for the wedding they couldnt believe how wonderful the house was and how perfect the setting was.
Finola and John, aswell as Evelyn the housekeeper and the chef and the girls who took care of us couldnt have been nicer, more welcoming or more helpful during the week awell as the day of the wedding.
The 'amenities' are the beautiful views, scenic walks (as short or long as you want to make them) and a boat that ,even though one of the oar holders was broken, my daughter and my niece had the most fun rowing out to the island. They also have the friendliest horses who will gather around as you walk through thier fields. At one time we had more horses than people, it was an amazing feeling.
It was a perfect week for both of our families who were meeting for the first time and the wedding day was the wedding of my dreams. As some who were there put it, it was 'enchanting' and 'everything and more than we had hoped for'.
I dont have anything bad to say about the accomodations, the grounds or the service. I hope that if anyone is thinking of stayng here they are not put off by the negative postings but instead listen to the majority who fell in love with Lisdonagh and its magical charm.
