“LOVE this place...Simple Comfort!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2009

Thankfully I decided to check this wonderful place out for myself. The other reviews gave it such a bad rep. I find it sad when people exaggerate just because they dont get what they want or expect!! Especially the one about the spindrift room. That is the room we chose to stay in for 3 nights. First off the staff was beyond friendly. She was eager to let us know of places to see and go eat at. Got us excited to be on the coast even more than we already were. Spindrift room is detached from all other rooms, kinda its own little apartment surrounded by the beautiful greenery. The stairs leading down were safe and secure to us. Once you enter the room its great. Leads into a full kitchen, which ended up helping us save money of eating out alot. It was actually romantic to cook my man dinner and eat dinner together watching the sun go down. Beautiful view of the lighthouse and the ocean. There's a big bed in the bedroom and a jacuzzi bathtub. Awesome!! So ROMANTIC! Sorry about the other people that did not like this room, but I did not smell any chemical smell, or see any burn marks. It was very clean and comfortable. Nice big bathroom to boot!! We walked the trail to the beach. It was great, take your time and enjoy yourself. coming back up was a little bit of a workout...but who doesnt need that in their life! Overall I would highly reccomend this place to anyone looking for a great view, romantic experience, clean rooms, friendly atmosphere at an affordable price. Please dont let grumpy reviews steer you away from this amazing place. Take a chance and you will be pleasantly suprised!

“Just Horrible !!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2009

For our 20th Anniversary, we thought we would try this place and selected the Spindrift, a so called "Private Cabin". It looks like a converted shed when you get there. The old wooden steps leading down to it are scary. We opened the door and were hit with some kind of chemical cleaning smell that we couldn't air out for the full 10 minutes we stayed. Part of the railing on the back deck was not currently attached. The plastic $5.99 white chairs on the back deck had that mold/mildew that does not come off of those chairs after sitting outside for years. I guess they can't afford to replace them. The bedroom ceiling and walls had gray areas of smoke / mildew or something showing every nail into the wallboard, and almost every wood beam, and there was an area almost over the bed where water had come through recently, and had not yet been "taken care of". Even the $1.00 paper towel holder was broken and not replaced. The cheap broom that was apparently there for you to clean up with, was actually broken. When you walked, there were areas on the floor of a spongy, un-solid feeling like the place was going to come down any minute. We even looked over the back railing at the posts holding the deck up,and one had a big split down it. The whole place didn't look anything near as "charming" as the web photos. We are hoping for a refund from our Credit Card company as we went back up to the office where the girl was on the phone talking to the manager or someone about how to clean up the lighter fluid she just spilled on the carpet. Oh, and there are absolutely no amenities here - not even a phone in the room. I did some research and apparently part of this "village" had some problems years ago, both financially, and some of it slid or almost slid down the hill...... the Best Western is right down the street - good value, good price, good amenities, oh.... and it's clean.

“Cold and wet.....even the showers.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2008

We stayed in the Seabreeze II room for two nights. The view was lovely and the room was comfortable. The weather had changed and it was cool and rainy which we didn't mind. What we did mind was the fact that there was no hot water for showers the first morning! We told the friendly staff person and she reported it to the owner but nothing was done about it and the water was even colder the next morning. This was our first and last stay at the Driftwood Village Motel.

  • Liked — the view was wonderful!
  • Disliked — no hot water = no recommendation unfortunately

“What a DUMP!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2008

Avoid this place at all costs! It is a DUMP and way overpriced!!! They even had the NERVE to charge my credit card unauthorized charges after I left! What a racket. The place is disgusting, dirty, and falling apart. The "nature trail" they advertise to the beach is so hazardous that the stairs are falling apart. AND...the deck in the room where we stayed is so crooked that it is going to fall off the mountain side and completely unusable! AND...the Highway 101 traffic can be heard at all hours in the rooms! Avoid this dump.

“The View Point apartment at Driftwood Village”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2008

Our family of three stayed in the View Point Room, at the Driftwood Village Motel, the week of July 14th. We could have fitted two or three more in, comfortably. We very much enjoyed our stay. The views from the windows, and large balcony, are extraordinary. The View Point rooms are older, but very pleasant, 1960ish. The website photos don't do the rooms justice. The kitchen has new pots, pans, stove, etc. kitchen utensils. The beds and furniture are clean, very comfortable and pleasant. The staff and owners were helpful, friendly and informative, doing all they could to make the stay great, and encourage our return. I found the indoor grill, located in the chimney rock next to the fireplace, to be a fantastic plus. Enough folks have stayed in the View Point, to require booking it months in advance.
