I would like to start off giving our thanks to our fellow tripadvisors for helping us decide which resort to stay at in Riviera Maya. Your reviews helped us to pick this resort and it was heavenly! Also special thanks to forum for tip on USA transfer from airport to resort and back. That helped save us from 2 to 2.5 hours travel to less than hour travel each way.
Grand Palladium has four resorts in the same area, the Colonial, Kantenah, White Sands and Riviera. The resort is huge! Each one has its own lobby for check-in, reception, etc. The great thing about this resort is you have access to all four resorts leaving a great variety of restaurants and activities for your enjoyment. Our travel was from Feb. 3-10.
We stayed in Riviera; our room was right by the ocean. We couldn’t see it because of mangroves in between our room and ocean but we could hear the ocean. Riviera is the quieter part of Grand Palladium and Colonial is the center for most of the action. We didn’t mind walking because the grounds are gorgeous and impeccably clean. Grand Palladium does offer continuous shuttle service from lobby to lobby via “red” train and also from lobby to your room or beach via the “white” shuttles.
There is something for everyone here, ages ranged from kids to grandparents. There are tons of activities: tennis, beach volleyball, water volley ball, billiards, ping pong, dance lessons, Spanish lessons, games by the pool, sports bar, windsurfing, kayaking, paddle boats, snorkeling, scuba diving, two different evening shows in each theater plus small bands/singers in the lobbies are among so many of the activities.
We were really impressed by the Grand Palladium staff. They were friendly and helpful, constantly keeping the grounds and rooms very clean, even the bathrooms are lavish!
We liked how eco Grand Palladium is with great attention to environmental preservation. We saw ant eater, raccoons with babies, different birds, and the alligators (don’t worry they’re caged). Snorkeling we saw a huge variety of fish, stingrays and a sea turtle!
The buffets we found to have a great variety of food to choose from and the staff kept the areas very clean with friendly, great service. The al la carte restaurants were AWESOME! The service, ambiance and food were over the top. The only al la carte we didn’t care for was El Dorado, but our favorite was the Japanese restaurant where we dined twice.
The pools are huge and there are also several separate adult pools. The salt water pool was so zen. The pool area is right at the ocean and is quiet with soft lounge music, sun beds, and its own bar….ahhh..
We spent most of our time on the beach. The water was so clear with beautiful shades of turquoise and blue. Visibility was great for snorkeling and the water was calm in most areas. There was plenty of chairs and shade at both the pools and the beach.
The amenities in our “standard” room were: robes for each of us, standard coffee and tea with condiments, stocked refrigerator, toiletries (conditioning shampoo, lotion, soap, bath gel), and a in-room safe. Everyone there was warm and friendly. We met so many people from all over the world with the Canadians in particularly being the warmest and friendliest.
Words don’t do this place justice so feel free to check out our photos.
We have stayed at other places in Riviera Maya but this is now our favorite! We definitely plan on returning again. Highly recommend it.
Colonial pick if you wish to be close to the action. Pick Riviera area if you wish more quiet.
