I highly recommend the Cockroach Motel over the Holiday Inn by the Charlotte Airport.

It was really dark inside and smelled like someone died up on my floor.

Then, on the ceiling over the bed, there was a 3-foot mystery brown spot. I was just waiting for a bunch of feces to dump down onto me at 2 o'clock in the morning.

I asked the front desk where the nearest restaurant was (besides the hotel one). They pointed me down the street where I crossed a 6-lane highway of traffic and was struck by a minivan coming back. I arrived at some dump called Shoney's where I found a 5-inch hair in my food. I asked for a To-Go box for the hair and headed back.

Airport shuttle was on time, but that's about it.

First, I was greeted at the door by 2 huge roaches hanging right infront of he hotel lobby. Check-in is scheduledto begin at 3:00,but I couldn't get my room until 3:45 soI had to drive around Charlotte to kill time. The hallways smelled like some type of bug spray, and the bath tub still had a disgusting ring around it. I will never stay there again even if I had a lay-over from the airport.

I stayed at this Holiday Inn 3 nights when I attended a conference. I chose a 3 star near the airport on Hotwire and this what I got. This was my first time using hotwire but I needed to stay in budget for my conference. I usually stay at 4 star hotels and I was a little leary about this one secondary to previous reviews on trip advisor. I almost booked another hotel but decided to give this one a try. Being a female in an unfamiliar place, I wanted to ensure that I was safe. I am very glad I did stick with the hotel. Service at the front desk, shuttle, and resturant was top notch. In the evenings they had a security guard on duty w hich made me feel secure.

Everyone was very friendly and I felt very safe. I took the hotel shuttle two times and did not have to wait. I left on a 6 a.m. flight so I took the 4:30 a.m. shuttle to the airpot and was there in less than 10 minutes. The room had new bedding and was clean. Initially it did smell a bit smokey but the smell went away. Previous guest must have smoked. The capret and drapes coordinated with the bedding and the sheets were just fine. I did not use the pool or internet service. The food in the resturant was okay. Big portions, but nothing spectatcular. What stood out for me was a clean, safe hotel that had very friendly and accomodating staff.

Guests staying at this hotel appeared to be airline personnel, families and businessmen.

I was stuck on the tarmac on my flight home and was connecting in Charlotte. I booked the Holiday Inn with my travel agency in Houston because I was going to miss my connection. When I landed in Charlotte I went right to the Hotel Shuttle Area. I waited for over 45 minutes, I called the hotel many times but no one answered (keep in mind this is 11:00 at night). There were also about 10 other people waiting as well. I ended up giving up and grabbing the next hotel shuttle I saw. So of course they charged me for a no show. I kindly called them up and asked to be refunded. The manager said that he can only refund me half because he did hold the room. I stay at Holiday Inns every other week and I could not believe this. Since I stayed at another hotel I can not expense it either. I ended up disputing the charge with AMEX. So all said and done, customer service stinks. The funny thing is that I almost didn’t stay here b.c I check the reviews on Trip Advisor. I should have listened, don’t make the same mistake, Stay Away!
