Upon arriving at this Hampton Inn we could see that we had chosen an older type hotel and once inside we still had the same feelings. We proceeded to check in where we met Amanda who was very pleasing and helpful. Our room was not ready (I had requested an early check-in as we left Canada very early in the morning) but Amanda was happy to get the girls to finish up our room asap. We also received a little bag of goodies from the hotel upon check in.
Upon entering our room we could see that the rooms surly needed updating but the room was very clean. We had booked the whirlpool room and were very sad to see the condition of this tub. It was very old, stained and full of cracks, but I was not going to let that ruin my weekend. It did work and that was a great thing!
I went back down to the front desk to ask for area maps, info on the Glass Museum and a good place to go for dinner. Again Amanda didn't hesitate to help us. She recommended a really nice place down on Market Street called the Gaffer Grill. What a fantantic place. The food was awesome and the owner even took time to chat with us about Toronto and why we chose to come to Corning, NY. Our server was great and we spent alot of time chatting.
Returning back to the hotel, we got to meet a new front desk clerk named Tara. What a nice girl. Very friendly and we chatted about what we wanted to do while visiting Corning. She gave us info for our Sunday adventure up to Walkin's Glen and she was very informative and detailed. We got to chat with her again Sunday night and she helped us pick out free movies, yes, free, this hotel has a dvd player in each room and you can sign out as many as you want during your stay.
Now about the free breakfast that comes with your stay. It was great. Lots of variety and they even make up little brown bags you can take with you if heading out for the day. They also provide fresh fruit all day long in the lobby as well as coffee & tea.
Now the nice surprise upon returning after dinner Sat night and walking into the lobby was a smell that no one could resist. We found they had fresh cookies and a popcorn machine with fresh popped corn to take back to your rooms to have with the movies. Little things like this is what customers remember. They also had plenty of bottled water free for the asking.
Upon checkout Monday morning, Amanda was back and she was so happy to see us again. We thanked her for all her help and she gave us water for our trip home and the famous breakfast bags to go.
I have to say that even thou this hotel could use a major renovation, the staff here are the best and we hope that they will still be around for our next visit there. We will be coming back again :)
