“Peaceful. Beautiful. Ideal for a quiet stay.”

After a bad experience with another Hilton in St. Louis (see my reviews to find out which one), I shifted to this one for the last two nights of my stay and though I wasn't sure at first if I had made the right decision, I definitely am now.

The hotel is massivce.. not in height, but in area space. I actually got lost the first day -- but the fact that the hotel was taken over by some danceathon organization probably didn't help either. In my 3 days, 2 night stay, I've seen the hotel ballroom (which is really nice) used for a wedding, post wedding brunch, dance-a-thon and some other big gathering.

The hotel is very french in style, the music they play and the way the staff is dressed and acts. The rooms are very floral printed -- normally I'm not a fan of that pattern, but with the rest of the french flair the hotel embraces, it fits right in.

Though the hotel has all the ammneties of most HIltons I stay in, its still carries a more "elegant" label than it does "modern". To go along with that because of its placement in the city, its also very quiet -- almost eerie at times because you don't know if anyone else is even living in any of the rooms near you.

Upside: free parking and massive parking lot. Room service was excellent, prompt and the food was actually good in comparison to my other Hilton stay food/room service.

I think next time I am in St Louis, I will probably stick to staying here -- its not too far from the airport either.

“Enjoyed our stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2010

My husband and I stayed at the Hilton Frontenac for 3 nights while attending a conference. This is a very nice hotel with spacious rooms. There seems to be mutiple buildings to this hotel, we stayed in the main building. The staf were very helpful and our housekeeper was very nice and thoughtful. The concierge lounge was also very nice and inviting. There was free wlrelss internet in the lounge. The one complaint I will make is about the couple of hairs I found in the shower...not good. We will stay again if in this area.

“Okay -- Just Okay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2009

I stayed for two nights on business. I had 3 complaints. First, the hotel seems to pipe through its air system a strong airfreshner. Second, and most disgusting, I had a stain on one of the bed skirts that clearly looked like it was male fluid. Third, in order to get in and out, I had to walk through the literature/meeting space of a religious organization.

On the brighter side, the conference space was very nice and the food in the hotel was excellent! Oh and the rooms were nice and quiet. So much so, that when I finally heard a faint noise in the hall after 2 days, I was surprised by it.

“Nice Hotel in great location”

My wife and I stayed here two nights for a wedding and everything was fine. It can be a little confusing to get around, and the hotel is older but fine. Staff was very helpful and the location is great. I would stay here again.

“OK - But Some Glaring Problems”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2009

We stayed for 3 nights in a "King Bed Deluxe Room". Thanks to other TripAdvisor reviwers, we requested (and got) an outside room with windows. There are inside rooms without windows - ick!

Pros -
1) Though an older facility, nicely kept up and mostly updated.
2) Large, clean, comfortable room.
3) Large, clean bathroom with big counter, double sinks (but see below re tub).
4) Quiet AC/heating.
5) Nice breakfast buffet with full/hot breakfast or cold-only choices (extra charge, of course).

Cons -
1) The large bathroom had a strange tub - small, shallow and in the corner. Fine for a shower; worthless for a bath (except for a 4 year old child). This arrangment may have been an exception. A friend's room on the same floor had a standard tub.
2) They charge $10/day for in-room internet service. Bizarre! We used the business center PC at night to get e-mail (though never could get the printer to work).
3) The place is big and getting around is cumbersome. Old elevators.
4) There are apparent problems with key cards (or the clerks who prep them). Our friend could not get in her room after a long trek through multiple halls, up elevator, etc. Housekeeper let her in. It took four (4!) calls to the desk to get someone up and replace the key cards. To their credit, they gave her 2 complimentary breakfast buffet passes for her trouble.
5) Another couple started to go into their room and heard people in there. Seems they were assigned an occupied room; they could have walked right in. So much for feeling secure in your own room. The desk clerk reassigned them to an upgraded room.
6) Windowless interior rooms need to be avoided (unless you don't care).

Would I recommend it to a friend? It depends. This hotel caters to groups. If my friend is a part of a group and gets a good/discounted rate, it is a decent place to stay. Otherwise, I would probably find a better option (preferably with breakfast and internet service included in the rate).
