The first thing one notices as they come into the room is that it is very clean. When I booked the hotel room, Terry (the owner) told me that the room was very small, and apologized that it was all he had available. That's okay, I told him, because it was only my daughter and I, and we weren't planning on spending much time IN the room.
I did not have a themed room, but I was happy with the amenities and the little touches that made the room welcoming- neatly folded towels that weren't paper-thin, comfortable bed, in room coffeemaker, and the Disney channel. I was also pleased that when my room was made up (when I was at the island) I received fresh linens and the carpet was vacuumed (my 2 year old had found some sand) along with the bed being made.
Our hosts were wonderful- they have a bonfire just about every night, and quickly introduced us to neighbors and friends that stopped by to visit. The great thing about the bonfire for me was that I was able to leave my window open when my daughter went to bed in the room, and I could still hear her if she woke up as I chatted by the fire. Try to do THAT staying at a big hotel.
I slept great both nights I was there, and thoroughly enjoyed cracking jokes and talking to the people who were at the bonfire. And if you need anything, Terry does what he can to make sure that you get it- right then. Whenever I asked for anything, I always said "when you get a minute, could you..." and I got it almost instantly- ice, pillows, tape, a bottle of water. Service. What a novel idea.
The location was perfect for us, 2 blocks north of Central Ave. (the busy, noisy, well lit shopping street), A few blocks south from the Bridge, a couple of blocks from the lake to the east. And across the street from the back of the hotel? An awesome playground. You can walk EVERYWHERE. Perfect. No noise from traffic, or worrying about your kids getting hit by cars since it was in a neighborhood.
